Thanks for Up date Tom , yes so important to keep these skills going in UK , steam engines have a great future as all they need is heat from one source or another to move tonnes of goods or people,
It's good to see heavy engineering in process - with the pending closure of the Alstom works at Derby we could find that the Hengist team are the only locomotive construction team left in the UK!
Andy, there are several new builds ongoing in the country, of which six are part of a group called the Main Line Steam Builders Group; both Hengist and Spirit of Sandringham are founder members. The B17 Steam Locomotive Trust building 61673 'Spirit of Sandringham' were cohosts on Saturday at the Open Day and the frames etc were in shot at the start of the video. Out of shot was a 'stack' of 5 6'8'' Driving wheels with the 6th elsewhere in the factory being machined.
@@johnpearson8657 I've seen the driving wheels in another video shot at the open day. Good to see that the wheels are slowly but surely coming together.
@@johnpearson8657 Yes the private sector ("heritage") is doing great things and I was just making comment about the dearth of construction facilities for the Network Rail industry.
Thanks for the update. Great to see the casting process explained.
They are lovely looking wheels!
