OH MY!! The very first Garden Answer video I’ve ever seen was about 5 or 6 years ago! It was Aaron on camera saying that he bets Laura is coming home with a bunch of plants!!! Then he runs to the car and Laura by the trunk shocked she’s being filmed and sure enough, she has a bunch of house plants inside her trunk! It was so cute and I’ve been watching ever since!!!

Hey you two! What a great trip to the island and filming with Jack in the gardens.👌
In this QnA video you mentioned stacked stones/and later a bridge…the picture came together of the stacked stones on either side of bridge and at both ends leading up the incline to the bridge🤔‼️ could that work for you both. We love your tours, seeing the way Benjamin is growing so fast and small glimpses of the Princess 🥰… and love the way the south Garden is taking on your imaginative designs. We are fans❤👌

They all look good planted up and out in the Hartley. I agree with others that you need another lattice plant stand to put where the table is. It would look so much better, and it would save your table from being ruined. Also, more plants would be out of the sun. Thank you so much for sharing!

When you pulled the Crocodilis (crocodile fern) out I immediately thought the middle table in the Hartley wld be the perfect spot and when you placed it I was tickled pinked. I live in the tablelands of far north Queensland (Australia) and have one that sits on our shaded verandah - they do grow big, are very hardy (0 to 40 degrees Celsius here), definitely prefers indirect light but will take direct light if hardened off but loses colour. Your silver dragon will act very much like a black velvet over winter - hates wet feet, dormant and die off in winter - of all our alocasia seems to be least affected by spider mite (probably because the leaves are so much tougher). The sin-go-nium will trail - I have a butterfly (very similar - bit more white in the verigation) I just curl it back over the soil and pin it at a node and it roots in. Lovely selection you are collecting. ❤️

Just my opinion. But I think you should move the plants on the sink over to the tiered table. I think the begonia rex is so special that it should be moved off the lattice table to a place by itself. Either the end of the counter or the middle of the round table. It looks so elegant in that glazed grey pot.

👋🌞Good Friday morning, again, Laura (Aaron too, if you are the cameraman in this video)!
WOWWW, what a nice variety of houseplants you hauled; some of which I have never seen, either!
I would have killed that adorable delicate-looking cotton candy fern, before I even got it to my house. I tend to agree with you, it should either be cloched up or in a terrarium for the extra humidity it is going to require.
Yessssss, that gray pot looks much better than the terra cotta one for that begonia!!!!
Oooooh, I was so excited to see your tiered plant shelf in the Hartley; it sure is a beauty!!!
All of the plants look great in the Hartley! Wishing them luck for the repotting and transition to the heat in the Hartley.

Perfect pot for that pink, burgundy, silver specked begonia❣️That’s one & also the fragrant one, I’d like to try. What about a voile folding screen to put up behind the table kind of like those dressing screens from the Victorian era. It should be easy to make. You could even cover the voile with clear plastic so they could be wipe off after storage.

I dont know the name of that cloudy looking fern, but growing up in Kenya, it was a shade loving fern that grew just like hostas in your garden. Humidity was always around 80% with occasional rain showers. So, when I saw them in Europe, people had them in terrariums, but... the leaves or strands should not touch the glass if there is condensation on the inside. That will make them rot. Sorry to describe what I know about this fern in such a roundabout way, but I wanted to bring up the rotting situation when in a terrarium that has condensation. If enough airflow can be provided, that may help to avoid rot. Beautiful plants and welcome back 🥰 PS: if the fern doesn't get enough humidity, the little leaves (for lack of a better term) will turn yellow and fall off, just like the needles of a drying up Christmas Tree

In the sunnier area you can plant tropical things that aren’t conventionally house plants. For example coleus, celosia, African lilies, marigolds, sweet alyssum, Pentax, etc. You could grow moat annuals in that space. Word of caution thought. Many hybrid annuals are not suited to live heat round. Like a supertunia likely won’t do great long term, but a seed petunia may do better despite it being a less god annual.

  • @GrowingSouth
    @GrowingSouth 2 года назад +2

SILVER DRAGON - Hey Laura! The silver dragon alocasia is not a difficult one to grow if you can meet its humidity requirements to prevent browning edges. They also want a very fast draining soil that is allowed to dry nearly completely between waterings. Treat them as though they are a succulent that likes high humidity. They also benefit from a little lime in the soil (I use Espomas garden lime) since these guys inhabit limestone rich rocky areas as an understory plant in their native habitat. They also pup readily and abundantly when happy! So you'll get lots of little babies below. The scientific name is Alocasia baginda.

I wonder if rosemary topiaries would take the heat on that south side table in the Hartley? It would be easy to keep them clipped to their shapes. Maybe a gnarled bonsai olive or fragrant bonsai eucalyptus on the tabletop would provide enough shade for other plants below while providing a larger central focal point on the table. (Apparently the Russian Olives that grow all over your area can also be bonsaid as mentioned on Bonsai Nut website!)

Cotton Candy may act like ~ asparagus fern.
Mine grows well with little water in a small open bedroom closet. Quiet area, little daily traffic.
I put a 2 gallon grow bag under Aspect light (7 hours),
...potted with organic mushroom compost ~and perlite to lighten up humidity, to drain well.
The grow bag is huge so I put a terrarium driftwood piece with living cattleya sitting in it. "Cider barrel" shape log holds humidity,
~ usually sold for gerbils with hole on top and open on the ends. Maybe ebay sells them. About 5 inches diameter.
...fern likes damp wood imo that slowly release water...can give little attention, does well in hideaway corner with another plant neighbor... like an orchid...to attract attention... to remind you to pour generous water (helps if good draining soil with felt container)...to live beside. 🐁🌲

What a haul! The Syn-GO-nuim will need bright light to keep and add variegation as well as pruning green leaves. You were right to call the vines runners on Cissus, they will attach and grow up a trellis. Closer related to grapes than begonias. They are so pretty. Croc ferns are allot like bird's nest. I find the care the same here. Can't wait to see fairy gardens!!!

How you feel after getting back from that garden show is how I feel everytime after watching one of your videos! My wallet always ends up a little thinner and my garden a little messier/more beautiful 🤣❤️

The little sedum is so cute. The pinkish plant looks good in the grey pot. The little Sedum would look better in a grey or black pot.

Oh wow. “The urn” is back! That’s a blast from the past. Nice to see it back in action. :) I’m loving the houseplants. I’m not a fan (too distracted to care for then properly) but gosh, this makes me want to buy some. LOL

I normally kill all my houseplants but I really want to up my houseplant game. Just bought some leaf shine and Epsom fertilizer. I love terracotta. I love the patina they get overtime. Just replanted a pothos in a brand new terracotta pot- can't believe how clean it looks

I LOVE the Green bubble pepperoni! If you lay a leaf on some soil for about three weeks, a new plant will begin to grow from the center! So fun!!

The "G" in "syngonioum" is pronounced like in "G" sound like "GOAT" . Great choices of plants! I need to go shopping!

Hi Laura, a tip for those that have a multitude of houseplants. I take small white garden markers and color code according to needs. Blue mark indicates plant needs frequent watering, leave white for nowatering. (or omit the marker) and red dot for plants that like to dry out between waterings.

      *normal watering. not nowatering

So much fun to dress up your beautiful Hartley. What an absolute blessing. Hopefully soon you can start dressing it up outside. Can’t wait.
