I’d never given Danelectro a thought or even a second glance, but I was on vacation a couple months ago and went to a local music store. They had a new Stock ‘59 on hand that the owner had me try out. I was instantly impressed with the quality of construction, fit and finish, the comfort and playability of the neck, and the unique sound of the lipstick pickups. I didn’t buy that one, but I couldn’t quit thinking about it. After doing some research when I got home, I ended up going for a Fifty Niner gold top and I absolutely love it! It has a metal bridge and a bone nut (I think) as opposed to the wooden bridge and metal nut on the Stock 59. I had some rewards cash with Guitar Center and they price matched another retailer, so I got mine for less than half the retail price. The stock pickups are quite good, but I swapped them out for a set of Seymour Duncan lipsticks. It’s honestly one of my favorite guitars to play. It’s lightweight, comfortable, and sounds great. I’m so glad I gave Danelectro a try!
I totally agree with you. These guitars are truly underrated. It's great you found one for a good price and that you love it! I'll have to check out that 59er!
I got to check that band out! The guitar definitely gives like indie mixed with grunge Rock vibes and I was very surprised with the sound. Also, check out the Dan electro 59er. A lot of people rave about that one as well. They have amazing deals at Pro audio Star and reverb.com. just trying to save you a few bucks!
I own 10 [possibly more ??? trying to remember] of the late 1990s first reissues made in Korea. Back when they were sold at very affordable prices. They were even cheaper when discontinued and discounted at really low prices about 20 years ago . The new recent Danos are now marketed at more premium prices, out of reach for too many of their traditional student/young beginners/ mail order catalogue market. Excellent guitars, great tone and playability. Only signiflcant problem is the tape on the side of the bodies tends to come unstuck. Need to use a hairdryer to heat it back in place. Which doesn't always work very well. Also pickup hight adjustment is not very reliable. The screws can pop out loose from the back of the body.
Wow that's crazy. I never knew someone who actually owned multiple of these guitars! I totally agree with the tape. I'm not really a fan of that as well as the bridge, but for paying $400 it ended up being pretty dang amazing guitar and I love the look and colors that they're offering. I would like to see them eventually. Do a 22 for at where you could actually have more access to the frats. I think they would kill it on that!
Who's ever played a Danelectro Before?! 🎸
🙋🏻♂️
Almost bought one about 15 years ago.
I had a baby blue 7 string Dano like that. It was "one that got away". I should never have traded it in - it goes for a grand now.

Just started a Lord Huron cover band, and this is definitely going on the wish list 😉

I want a '64, I want to try that shape. Similar to a Mosrite.
Hell yeah! Really great guitars and I love the 64 as well. I plan on getting some more as the years go by because they are really interesting
No thanks!
