In Russia, by law, Champagne is called sparkling wine and sparkling wine made in Russia is called Champagne.
The country that in every aspect has its feet above its head and its head below its feet.

Champagne is marketing, branding, no more than that. Some years ago the Champagne region was a lot smaller and the law was changed. Areas that were previously not allowed to call their wine champagne are now suddenly real champagne, the same sparkling wine is now suddenly better? Nonsense. Just organize a double blind tasting and let people taste a very expensive champagne, a cava from spain, a cremant de bourgogne, a German riesling sect, etc, without tem (and you) knowing what they are drinking. (open Bottles, wrap them in aluminium foil and clingfilm, and leave the room, let someone else write numbers on them, then bring them to the tasting, now no one knows what is in which bottle) I predict the following: The very expensive champagne is going to finish as one of the last and the Cava and Rieslingsekt will compete for first place. Of course, champagne fans are not going to believe this, but neither are they going to. I have organized this very often, always fun for a party, and the results are always pretty much the same

@@DWFood mostly somewhere in the middle.
This methode is well suited to find out what you and your friends really like. I am sure there are people who actually like champagne in this test the best, but in my circle of friends, family and collegues it is not the case. Would really like to see a test like this with wine experts. Then also dark glasses should be used as they can get information from the structure of the bubbles

Just love when parties get to this point: "is this booze fake, fancy or free?"

Yeh, you’re wrong. Champagne is superior. End of. The other wines you’ve mentioned are also very good, but champagne is superior. It’s more complex, has more structure, more balance, more power (depending on the producer) and it’s produced in limited quantities (when considering grower champagne, or the smaller houses). Large brands like VQ, Moët are terrible. They are the Starbucks of the champagne world. If you try a Jacques Selosse or vintage KRUG, you wouldn’t comment such a silly thing. It’s not marketing and branding, it’s simply superior, which is why for centuries it has always been one of the most premium wines. End of.

@@bossman674 I recommend a blind tasting with other sprakling wines.
