Mine literally just arrived in the mail a few minutes ago. Amazing timing.
Important note: Be sure the area on the top of the bubble diffuser that has no holes is lined up with the output of the pump. Otherwise the pump will pump water straight up that section making very few bubbles.
Please explain, like the bottom part of the bubble diffuser with no cutouts has to be aligned with the bottom of the pump?
@@-Wreckanize- yeah, he does it correctly on the video at the 01:28 mark. He aligns the area of the top bubble diffuser (clear acrylic piece) with no holes over the pump output
@@1oona8484 I see, thanks!, will adjust mine now. What about the black ring? I know it's not concentric, was wondering how to align that the best.

I have this skimmer and like it. My only recommendation is that I could not get mine too stop overflowing in the 9-11 inch range, even after a few weeks. I ended up raising to about 7 inches water depth and it has been working great since.

None of the bubble magus skimmers have ever been workable at the line off the website. I’ve had 8 different ones none were as suggested
Check that the bubble diffuser has the area with no holes over the pump output. Mine did something similar to what you explained when I first assembled it. Then I twisted the bubble diffuser to the right orientation and it has been working solid at the recommended water depth ever since.
@@1oona8484 Thanks for the tip. Yes I had tried this as well with no success. My suspect is that the amount of organics in your water can influence at what depth it works well.
I like comments like these, I have a small sump and anything above 8unches is a flood hazard for me probably

What is the input voltage of this curve 5 elite? My country uses 220-250V 50hz
I'm debating whether to go with this skimmer or the Reef Octopus Int 150 SSS for a 65g sps/lps tank.
Tough choices! Either will work, but given that you won't have a whole lot of fish bioload in a frag tank (typically), the Curve 5 being slightly better for smaller systems would give it the edge in my mind. Much easier to tune if it's smaller vs too large.
So how would I lower the amount of air? My tunze 9001 has a valve for that under the silencer. Would I be able to add something like that too this skimmer?
Yep, just add in a small ball valve to throttle back the air if necessary.
Where can I get air valve and what size air valve do I need?
I used an airline control valve, a length of airline tubing, and an adaptor (big diameter to small diameter tubing) all sourced from Petsmart and Petco- some stores didn't have the adaptor or the valve.

For a 39 gallon aquarium will it be ok?
If your tank is very heavily stocked, you might be able to get away with a Curve 5. Even then, it's going to be oversized.
If you're open to other skimmer options, the Tunze Comline skimmers are a solid choice for a tank that size.
can i use a spong filter in a tank that i have filled with sea water and rocks from the reef near my city ( i left the rocks in the aquarium for 2 weeks ) then add fish to the tank with changing 50 % of the tank weeky from the same sea that the fish lives in ?
The ONLY color it comes in is RED AND BLACK... NOT orange and black. Which I would prefer because my plumbing is orange and black and it would match it perfectly. I wish it came in different colors but no... it doesn't.
The more I read up on these the more I see people have better success below what the manufacture recommends
I have mine at 6 inches which is way below the recommended depth.
@@lelandlee8656 thanks, I can’t go over 7-8 inches of water in my current sump anyways. These skimmers look really good for the price, it was either this or a tunze 9004 for me
This suggested depth is bs. I have mine in literally 4 inches of water. Anything more and the skimmer legit just overflows. I even have to attach a air line to top of the air thing and tie a knot otherwise it just overflows.
Yea mine arrived also very much broke. Those little hooks that hold down the pump, pretty sure there should be 4 of them and I don't think they should be loose. So everyone is clear this is made in China.
Edit: So put altogether (as much as I could) seems to be working fine still bummed it came broken. If you buy one of these be wary the hook that hold down the pump should not be loose they should be fixed in place also there should be 4 not 3 and a broken shard.
