I do like the 13" size better, but I feel like I'd rather upgrade to 16gb of ram as opposed to 512gb SSD. When you do more intensive tasks, the memory swap issue is the only reason why slowdowns occur. If you get 16gb, you can push it slightly further without noticing a difference (b/c of extra ram capacity) plus it's more future proof. Just what I think🤷♂
Neither. Actual winner? M1 Air base model, way cheaper plus can edit even 4k vids easily and zero stutter with 2 x 128 ssd = twice as fast as either new base M2 Air with 1 x 256 ssd/nand flash. I use my M1 for editing vids on the road, unbeatable.
13"" it is more compact and the screen size don´t really impact me it is perfect for photo and video editiing on the go. I have an IMac ant home though...
At 70 years of age, I've lived with a 13" M2 Air for a year and it was ok. But the 15" is so much easier on my old eyes. I've relegated my 13" to being my trip laptop and backup, in case anything happens to the 15".
I tried the 15 and 13 inch side by side in the Apple store, for me the 15 inch feels too bulky and is considerably heavier than the 13 inch. I think I will get the 13 inch mainly down to portability.
If I didn't already have a 12.9" iPad pro I'd be seriously considering the macbook air. Given the size choices I'd probably go for the 15" as I like multitasking.
I had a 15” MBP at uni and a 12” MacBook for my final year. The 12” was my favourite for all the expected portability reasons for every day use, but if I needed to seriously get some work done the bigger screen was best. I do think the 13” MBA looks better for some reason, not that it really matters!
Went with the 13". Bought it to replace a 12.9 iPad for work and I already have a 16" MBP for the office and around the house. Really digging it! For me, the perfect size for on the go!
Iphone 13 mini in midnight, watch ultra, and the 13in M2 air in midnight as well. Talk about portability and ease of use that’s my winning combination for 2023 and some time to come.
They did the single nand chip for when the M3 came out so there would be more reasons to upgrade. Especially since the M1 won’t be on the roster anymore and only sold at Walmart in a vacuum. I ended up getting the 15 inch M3 Air. The screen real estate, ram, and price did it for me.
I love my iPhone 13 mini for its slim size but I still would prefer the 15 inch MacBook Air. It is just an incredible piece of art in a way and I was fascinated by its "slimness" when I first saw it in store. So I'd rather pick the bigger one here although I am also a fan of the 14 inch MacBook Pro.
I first bought the 13” M2 Air a year ago right when it was released. With the release of the 15”, and after seeing it in store, I immediately wished I waited another year and resented apple for not releasing them at the same time. I decided to keep the 13” instead of selling it, and added a 2nd MacBook to my workflow, the 16” M1 Mb Pro. The larger screen is so much better, but now that I have both I feel like I’m getting the best of both worlds. I’m very curious to find out how the 15” affected your ownership and usage of the 13”. Do you own all 3? If not, which do you personally prefer and use more, the 13” or 15”? And are you still using the 16”? Thanks
I like my 13.6 inch M2 MacBook Air. Also I upgraded to 16 gigs of ram, and 512 SSD storage, I kept the 8c GPU. Was able to walk around NYC with Air in crossbody laptop briefcase, with no strain on shoulders. I’ve had mine 4 weeks now and I love it very user friendly. I agree with one of the other posters. If you are doing intensive photo, video editing, or building webpages like I did, you need a pro desktop. I had a Dell desktop, with Windows 7 pro, and 2T hard drive. I was able to work all my product and NYC photos in Photoshop 5.5. If you are a student, or teacher lugging a laptop back and forth to school, the 13.6 Air is lightweight, more portable.
I went into a store recently to have a go at typing between the 13, 14 and 16 and couldn't quite decide. I'm hoping a 15" MBP reveals itself to be the perfect size / capability mix for me...
i’ve been waiting for months to pull the trigger on a 14 inch MBP because the 13 inch MBA is just too small for me, but the MBP is of course heavier and bulkier. a 15 inch air is just perfect
I’m literally never going to buy another laptop or desktop regardless of price or brand I’m just going to pre-order the Apple Vision Pro and watch everything on the hundred foot immersive display
I love my m1 mba, no performance issues, but I will be upgrading to the 15”, purely for the screen size, because I compose music and a 20-50 instrument score is much easier to manage with a bigger screen
I just got a 13" Space Grey M2 MacBook Air with 8GB RAM/512GB SSD refurbished for $1,099 from Apple. Replaces a 2013 13" MacBook air with 8GB RAM/512GB SSD. Loving it!
Been watching these videos lie crazy recently. I have always wanted a macbook and finally bit the bullet and bought a 2023 m2 macbook air 512gb and 16gb of ram 15inch so i guess im in that camp now
Went to the Apple store to get a MBA for my daughter, being a perfect time for the student discount an' all. We looked at both side by side, argued every damn point and she opted for the 13" one, the smudgy midnight blue to boot. Her reasons were simply that the 13" one is more portable. I would've chosen the 15" simply because of the large screen. Like you said, screen size trumps everything else for me. This is also why I got the iPhone 14 Plus.
Once you do need glasses, there is no way around it anymore. The bigger screen is paramount. My mobile provider has the MBA 15in as a contract renewal offer (iPad Air4 which I can sell on for about 350€) for 75€/month with 40gb of data plan and a mobile modem. For me the perfect choice, but with 512GB SSD. As usual, I call them and ask for an offer I cannot resist.
@@wakeupcall2665 I'd definitely take that offer. Data plans are very expensive here in Canada and no provider would offer something like the 15" MBA. Go for it!
The weight of the MBP 16-inch is wild when I work and travel. I have the base 16-inch MBP w/ 1 TB of storage (thank u Costco) to professionally edit commercials and use basic After Effects. Video files are small, but timelines w/ a lot of graphics, effect, and audio tracks drag my work Mac w/ Intel chip. The silicon chip is buttery. Would a 15-inch MB Air w/ 24GB memory, 1TB storage be a comparable switch to the 16-inch M1Pro 10 core (8 perf & 2 efficiency) w/ 16 GB memory & 1TB storage?
I really like your video content. However this video content of size matters probably is useful for any brand and models of laptops. In my opinion I would go for the smaller one because it’s portability. You might argue that big screen provides more content. True. Remember you can always plug it to an external display in which even 15 inches can’t even provide that much content by itself.
Still kind of torn but leaning towards a 15” w 24GB, 1TB, and possibly the thermal pad mod after the warranty is expired. I have achy arthritic hands so light and portable matters way more - but I want to future proof it and could use a change from the 13” MBAs I’ve been using since 2017.

Great comparison Mark, still on the fence with getting the 15 inch myself. Maybe you can help. I’m on an 13inch M1 MacBook Pro now (yes, with touchbar which I love btw) and have been on this for a couple of years with absolutely no issues. I work with large files with data (spreadsheets, etc.) and lately I have felt the need for a bigger screen when I travel away. So now I’m struggling to decide: if to get the 15 inch air entry spec would that potentially make it struggle with performance in 2 years time? Or should I jump into MacBook Pro 14 territory, although that is a bit over my budget. Or should I hold on in case we get an updated spec and design of the 13 inch in Sept? Your video was at this address : ruclips.net/video/LNK6qlqAhww/видео.html Maybe you're not going to check the comments under your older videos, so I'm copy-past my comment here : "So, to sum up Mark, what is your conclusion ? I understood you say : 4k editing (occasional in my case) is done very well on the Air M1 (256g ssd), but the performance is exactly the same on the Air M2 provided it is equipped with a 512g ssd. Tell me if I misunderstood. At the same time, you seem to say (towards the end of your presentation) that in your personal use you don't use macbook Air for your 4k edits. There is another French-speaking presenter (but you can translate the subtitles automatically into English in the youtube window) who did a test on the basic Air M2 (8g of RAM and 256g of ssd) by checking the export time of one 4k video of 14 minutes by final cut pro. He compared this export time with that of the 14 inch Macbook Pro of M1 chips (with the same 14 minute video in final cut pro). Result: the 14-inch Pro M1 exported faster than the basic Air M2, but only by 47 seconds ahead! So the Air M2 is very impressive. In addition, this same presenter also confirmed (like you) that the 256g ssd of the Air M2 is slower than that of the 256g ssd of the Air M1, he himself made an in-depth analysis of these 2 ssds and he was able to observe with certainty that the 256g of the Air M2 is twice as slow in writing as the ssd 256g of the Air M1 ! Despite this disadvantage, as I said above, exporting a 14-minute video in the Air M2 (with 8g/256g) was only 47 seconds slower than on the 14-inch Pro M1. So, impressive that this Air M2. The moment of the presentation where he compares the export speeds between the basic Air M2 with the Pro 14 inch M1 : ruclips.net/video/_JwIrAhBT20/видео.html the moment when it compares of ssd speed in Air M2 and Air M1 : ruclips.net/video/_JwIrAhBT20/видео.html
