Love the old mad dogs! Comfortable, quiet (in all my flights, I've never been at the back next to the engines so I can't speak to that noise). There's the lovely buzz saw from the JT8Ds giving 'er hell at takeoff and then just air. I've got a Delta MD88 model on my desk at work and get questions about it all the time. Gonna miss them when they're all retired.
Me too my friend. And with all this coronavirus stuff, it sounds like Delta is talking about pulling the plug on them much quicker than we may have thought. Thanks for watching my friend!
Wow! 30 years young, and still rockin' the skies! Still looks a very slick machine! The livery is real good at hiding the MD's age! The takeoff and climb were truly stunning! This vid also had quite a few great cloud shots, cutting through the blankets and slicing through the cotton! Also, had a fair bit of turbulence on this flight! At 15:15 or so, was that PIT that you saw? The landing was sweet and slick! I know you said that this bird just retired, so seeing the final shot made me swallow hard! Via con Dios, MD-80! An icon flying off into the sunset!
Yes. She had a long life for a commercial airliner. 30 years in the air. Who knows how many passengers she carried through her life. Millions I'm sure. Perhaps she will move to a museum, or will live on in another way, but at least we have this footage from when she was still carrying passengers all over the country. This whole flight was stunning. A good mix of clouds, good seat location, and no window glare. This whole episode was full of good shots, and I'm glad. This MD-80 deserved a good send of like this. And yes. This was a bit of bumpy flight. As you pointed out you can see a fair bit of turbulence if you watch the end of the wing. At 15:15 that is PIT indeed. We were quite a ways into our decent at that point. Just a few minutes from landing! It's sad to see airliners fade into the pages of history, and perhaps this is the last footage that will ever be posted from onboard N570AA. I'd be surprised if anyone else had any other footage that hadn't been posted. But like I mentioned above. At least this was a nice flight with good views. N570AA's legacy will always live on here on my channel from this flight, and the many times I caught her spotting at DFW. Thanks for watching my friend!
Hey awesome video! I live in The Bahamas, and we have 2 of these still at our Airport in use! 2 from American Airlines. I love the takeoff roll & climbing. It’s awesome
Enjoy them while you can. The MD-80s that is. They will soon be gone forever. It's hard to believe American once operated over 300 of them. Now they are down to less than 30. I have another flight scheduled on one in December, and that may very well be the last time I ever fly on an American MD-80. Thanks for watching my friend!
MD80s sort of remind me of Boeing 727-200s which were my favorite Boeing aircraft before the 727s were phased out. I flew a Hughes Airwest DC9 from Calgary, Alberta to Ontario, California when I was 14 years old. Thank you for the great wing view. I liked and subscribed.
Thanks very much my friend! I greatly appreciate the subscription and the comments. The MD-80s use the same basic engine that the 727 did, so it definitely reminds me of the 727s as well. I flew on a lot of 727s when I was a child on Northwest, and United. If only we had cameras back then like we have today. Thanks for watching!
I read where Captain Patrick Smith, who runs a website called ask the captain, said the mad dogs are is favorite type of aircraft to fly because they can fly just as fast as a fighter, and they are very agile too.
Thank you my friend. I greatly appreciate it. As for if I travel for work or I'm retired... I wish either of those two options were the case. I worked for American Airlines for about five years, which allowed me to travel for free. That is where I got a lot of the footage you see on my channel. I left American about a year ago, and I still work in aviation, but I don't travel for my job. When I left American I made a decision that I was still going to travel, even though I no longer flew for free. At this point that's all it is. I travel on my own dime as much as I can, and that is now what you see on my channel. Thanks for watching man! Like I said I greatly appreciate it!
This is the aircraft MD-83, that had a Jackscrew problem back in January of 2000....The plane went down off the Calif coast....The problem was the mechanics never lubed the threaded part on the Jackscrew......I didn't fly that particular plane for over 10 years after the plane went down.....
I remember that incident. If I remember correctly that was determined to be the airlines fault and not the aircraft. Yes it was a part on the aircraft that failed, but as you mentioned, it was due to the airline not following the established maintenance procedures. I think it was an Alaska Airlines aircraft. I wouldn't have worried about the aircraft in that situation. I would have worried more about Alaska Airlines. Thanks for watching man!
This is a very interesting flight. First, at almost 30 years old, this is by far the oldest plane I have ever posted on board footage from. Also, since the filming of this flight, this particular MD-80 has been retired, and is now sitting in the desert in New Mexico. The American MD-80s will be gone before we know it!
Thanks my friend! As is usually the case... Airplane retirements hardly ever go according to the original plan. Only 56 MD-80s left in American's fleet, and N570AA is not one of them. She had a good long service life though. 30 years in the air is not to shabby.
Thank you. It was a great flight! Sometimes you just get lucky. The window was clear, the weather was great, and the lighting was spot on. Thanks for watching my friend!
It was quite bumpy. Sometimes it's hard to capture just who turbulent a flight is, but as you pointed out, you can clearly see the wing moving around. Thanks for watching my friend!
Not this one. This MD-80 was delivered brand new to American in 1987 and flew her whole career for them. Since this video was filmed N570AA has since been retired. She flew for American for about 30 years. What a career! Thanks for watching my friend!

Well spoken, my friend! Well spoken!
SFAPowerhouse you are definitely right
Very sad to see these go:( But glad you went on one before they retired! Awesome footage! Make sure not to delete this footage!
Thanks again my friend! No worries. I never remove any of the footage from my channel :D.

Simply stunning man :)

Great to see you on board of this old bird :) Thumbs up for sharing this great video and have a great weekend!
Thank you my friend! I'm glad you enjoyed it!

I've heard a lot of pilots talk about how much they love the MD-80s. They will be missed that's for sure! Thanks for watching my friend!
I like that you can hear gear doors slam shut
The good old mechanical noises of the old MD-80's. Thanks for watching my friend!
Used to fly these all the time--St. Louis, Tulsa, Dallas. They take off like a rocket.
They do indeed. I’ll be flying on another MD-80 very soon. Fly on them while you can! They will soon be gone.
Excellent video. I just love the DC-9 and all its' variant's. Flying through those different cloud layers and types was also very interesting. Thanks!
Thank you my friend. I too love flying on the DC-9 variants. Catch them while you still can on American. Thank you for watching!
I'm going to miss md 80 a lot. I will keep riding until they're all gone. They have amazing sounds.
They do indeed have awesome sounds. It's hard to find planes that are so mechanical anymore. Thanks for watching!
Beautiful video! Love your videos. You either travel for work or you are retired! Love it!

Nice flight ✈️

amazing video! Its sad that the MD-80's are retiring :(. I hope to fly them before there gone!. Anyway thats a like from me!
Thank you my friend! About a year or so left. Only 56 still flying for American.
The engine buzzsaw sounded a little bit old-fashioned
I love your awesome videos! In the beginning when the plane was at the gate the 777 makes the MD-80 look so low and small compared to it
Thanks my friend! You're right the 777 sure does make the MD-80 seem small when they are parked next to each other. Thanks for watching!
Terrific video, please keep it up.
Thank you my friend! Plenty more to come!

Sad day! Sad, say day! Glad you caught one of it's last rides, man.
I had not seen that before! That was a great little video! Thanks for sharing that with me!
No prob, buddy!
Fantastic video on the Maddog! Get on them while you can! When are they completely retired from AA's fleet? Liked!
atlubeck in 2019 now!!!!

Beautiful, clear video with smooth takeoff and landing.
Thank you. It was a great flight! Sometimes you just get lucky. The window was clear, the weather was great, and the lighting was spot on. Thanks for watching my friend!
Super fast taxi there. I swear all MD-80 - 88 or 717 pilots are crazy
Thanks for watching my friend! I think you're right. Those Mad Dog pilots do seem to push the envelope!
Cole Furler like Jerry reed used to say hammer down son hammer down and those pilots do rip Jerry reed
Cole Furler
Aaah, I thought no one noticed!
Gotta love a buzz saw!!!!
Thanks for watching my friend!
Great video!
Thank you very much! I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Landing in Pittsburgh, that's where I live 4 years ago
What happened with the Flaps?
They never retreated completely.
This is what I'm talking about! Keep up videos of the AA S80's!
Thanks my friend! I have more MD-80 footage still to come!
I'm gathering it was bumpy based on the wing movement around the 10 minute mark?
It was quite bumpy. Sometimes it's hard to capture just who turbulent a flight is, but as you pointed out, you can clearly see the wing moving around. Thanks for watching my friend!
Interesting takeoff; almost no flaps.
it was indeed minimal flaps for takeoff. Thanks for watching my friend!
The ord airport has a lot of them
There are still several places you can find them at. American is still flying over 50 of them for now. Thanks again my friend!
Skylite Productions on that flight were there any outlets?
So plane engine failure means the engine loses it’s power.
Essentially, yes.
Is this an ex TWA bird?
Not this one. This MD-80 was delivered brand new to American in 1987 and flew her whole career for them. Since this video was filmed N570AA has since been retired. She flew for American for about 30 years. What a career! Thanks for watching my friend!
didnt see anyone getting dragged off that flight at least
Nope. I've seen some interesting stuff on flights, but never anything like that. Thanks for watching the video my friend.
That was on UNITED airlines.
TERRA PLANE
Thank you for watching my friend!
Did you catch a glimpse of Hillary Clinton cackling about on her broomstick?
I didn't. Maybe I wasn't looking hard enough! Thanks for watching!
