    A word of extreme caution!
That cable that connects your hot water tank to the outlet, must be replaced asap!
That’s not a cable rated for the amps and current needs of the hot water tank. It will eventually overheat and create a fire hazard or mess up your new tank.
You can buy a replacement cable at any hardware store. Buy it by the foot and use the same plug now on it.
I live in the DR and would never use that cable on it now for that hot water tank.
The solution to your credit card issues, is to open a card (debit card) account in a DR bank. Just link it to a second account on another bank in the DR. Load the balance to that other account, and only use it to transfer balances to buy stuff on that debit card enabled account (never use this account to buy anything in DR).
If the buying card gets hacked, it will only affect the minimum bal on it you loaded to spend. Just keep the minimum balance in that account to avoid maintenance monthly fees. As you never expose the primary account to the vendors, but only as funding source to the buying account, it will never be hacked.
As rule, electrical systems in homes in the DR are not grounded. So I will suggest you install a new breaker with a differential breaker to protect you from electrical shocks or electrocution. It’s very simple and easy to do and I can show you a step by step on how it’s done.
That differential breaker will trip the moment a fault is sensed in the circuit.
The best way is to install a new grounding bar outside your unit, but this would need your landlord’s permission and extra wiring work. Along the lack of knowledge by most Dominicans about grounding needs in their electrical systems.

We are definitely interested in the electric cable and grounding but we have no idea what cable to get and how to do that. Can you send us an email? Yonnyandkayla@gmail.com
And thank you for the advice about the credit card! We will look into that, too

Yes it works in the whole house! Luckily we had the water pipes already set up for it. Not many houses have them... But it was definitely worth the 25,000 pesos for the tank
