"Earth. Even the word sounded strange to me now... unfamiliar. How long had I been gone? How long had I been back? Did it matter? I tried to find the rhythm of the world where I used to live. I followed the current. I was silent, attentive, I made a conscious effort to smile, nod, stand, and perform the millions of gestures that constitute life on earth. I studied these gestures until they became reflexes again. But I was haunted by the idea that I remembered her wrong, and somehow I was wrong about everything."
"We don't have to think like that anymore. We are together now. Everything wave done is forgiven... EVERYTHING." Beyond the cinematic wonders this film offers i feel like this is a spiritual experience in film form to some very deep and existential topics and psychological musings we all deeply reflect on in our quite moments & subtly shape our beliefs faiths and dreams. Very underrated film and a very special ethereal film score by Cliff Martinez.
The entire point of the story is that our perception of reality is so deeply skewed by faulty and/or embellished memories, conclusions, and assumptions that true reality cannot be ascertained from our experience because of the bias inherent to our self assessment.
One of the coolest things about Solaris is the two suns, a red star and a blue star. Each lights the station differently, and occupants had to wear special sunglasses for the blue one, as I recall.

I had the pleasure of seeing this alone in the cinema. Clooney during his best period. Forgotten by many, but it stays with me.
Sounds like a beautiful memory. I’m happy for you. I watched Glory alone in high school and have the same kind of memories of the film.
Must have been an incredible experience. Sometimes I just hope to see masterpieces like this in cinema again..

"Do you understand what I'm trying to tell you? There are no answers, only choices." 😊

22 years on, and still so good.
