    Yes!!! Nightstands in the bedroom!!! Can't stand RV manufacturers who forget that some people want a place to set a bottle of water, a cell phone and maybe have a clock next to the bed! Perfect layout and excellent use of space, especially for a solo traveler.

    I'm old and disabled, so an ottoman would not work for me. Now, my husband may like that idea in itself. Lol
    We would probably prefer theater seats or recliners of some kind. Even with out grand kids we would probably use sleeping bags on the floor, for them, in a unit such as this.
    Thanks again, JD, for another great RV video.

    I suppose this could be towed with a 1/2-ton pick-up truck but you probably won't enjoy the experience. Just because you can tow something doesn't mean you should. Maybe you can tow it, but can you stop it? The pin weight for this rig will be around 2000 lbs, definitely in the 3/4-ton range. I would say this is definitely a perfect 3/4-ton 250 Super Duty/2500 HD pickup truck rig payload wise.

    I like the unit for all of the standard features. With the slider closed it looks like there is no lavatory access. Refer access and lavatory access is important when traveling. Rest stop areas don’t often accommodate using slide outs.

    I actually like this layout very much. A suggestion that maybe you can share with the Coachmen people - the attached desk table concept is one of the best ideas i've seen. maybe take it one step further - make it 6 inches wider (there is room), keep the same length , do not attach it to the wall - have 4 very sturdy legs. this way you can put a bench seat along the wall pull the table away and have 2 chairs on the inside aspect of the table and be able to seat 4 nicely. Put it back up against the wall as a desk when the extra seating is not needed ? this way the bench seat is under the table(of course it can have storage inside) when not needed and you have a little more flexibility for seating a couple extra people. or have 2 folding chairs and no bench but still have the ability to pull it out to play cards, boardgames, etc and accomodate for up to 4 people. As a bigger person, i have found the dinettes/fixed tables/benches to be very unkind and very uncomfortable in the majority of RVs. There is certainly plenty of room in the center of that living space to easily pull that out a couple of fee when needed. There is a huge center area of the room that is wide open.

    I have never thought much of the Coachman brand. Wow, they have REALLY upped their game. I'm pleased to see what they have done with this model. I love the desk bar area. I would keep the backed chairs just like they have provided. I don't need an ottoman to trip over.

  • @JustinG9698

    I appreciate that you stress the safety but something like this is designed for the people that don’t want a big 3/4 ton truck. I understand not all 1/2 ton trucks can handle this but if you get one that has the capacity for the trailer and things you bring with you then little things can improve the ride. You can do things like the road active suspension system or airbags to stiffen the rear end when you’re towing. Also swapping to something like the Reese goose box (I understand you would have to have at least the 6.5’ bed for this option) or an Anderson hitch will help in the sense that it will be lighter than a traditional fifth wheel hitch. Again I appreciate the fact that you care about safety but this attitude that a 1/2 ton truck is useless for towing is ridiculous. They have capacities for a reason. I will agree you shouldn’t max out the capacity of your truck with little experience towing. And that it shouldn’t be an every weekend kinda thing but for most people that take the trailer out once every few months but want a comfortable and a more nimble truck on a daily basis then a properly equipped 1/2 ton with a few additional items will do just fine.

    • @newenglandrvadventures
      @newenglandrvadventures Год назад +5

      Outside of the weight, where the pin is positioned as far as control and sway goes the fifth wheel tows better than a bumper tow.
      Where manufacturers really mess up on half tons is rating them at 35psi on a P tire.

    • @dandurig8181
      @dandurig8181 Год назад +3

      I appreciate the safety aspect as someone who made the weight mistakes and had to upgrade later. I do agree 100% on IF your truck has the capacity you could tow it, but the majority of half tons would not have the payload for this. Only 1 configuration I could find could when fully loaded and it was the HD payload package. You pretty much have to order these to get them so anyone who has one knew what to ask for when purchasing. This means he covers 95% or more of cases fairly well. The problem is most people don't know and listen to an rv dealer who tells them "it will pull it just fine", when in fact it shouldn't. Then they have stability problems and its too late and you either need a smaller trailer or a bigger truck and neither is a cheap option.
      A 3/4 ton truck is not any longer than a half ton with a 6.5ft bed option, so is it a bigger truck if the wheelbase width bedsize and the cab are the exact same?

    • @JustinG9698
      @JustinG9698 Год назад +1

      @@newenglandrvadventures I agree but if you plan to tow heavy tires are a simple upgrade

    • @JustinG9698
      @JustinG9698 Год назад +2

      @@dandurig8181 the 3/4 trucks are a little longer. For example on Chevy the 1500 crew cab with standard bed is 241.41” overall length. The 2500 crew cab with standard bed is 250.04”. The standard bed is Chevys 6.5’ bed (it’s a tad longer on the 2500) while I’ll agree 9” isn’t a lot for some people it could mean the difference of it fitting in your garage or not. Personally I don’t park my vehicles in a garage but some do and others may have to based on hoa rules or city ordinances. The biggest difference in a 1/2 ton and 3/4 ton is maneuverability. The 1/2 tons have a much better turning radius. Plus if you drive your truck daily and only tow 2 or 3 times a year you may want the better ride on a daily basis.
      As far as finding a truck to handle this trailer I did a quick search at a dealership local to me. They have a 23 custom trail boss with the 5.3. The label gm puts in the door jam states that specific truck has a payload of 1,817 lbs a gooseneck tow rating of 8,600 lbs and a gooseneck tongue weight capacity of 1,305 lbs. the only issue with this specific truck is the gooseneck tow capacity is 300 lbs under the gvwr of this specific trailer. The simple solution to that is not to load the trailer to gvwr. (Even if you did it would probably be fine since the conventional rating is 9,300 lbs)
      All that being said. I would personally be comfortable using that truck to pull this camper a few times per year. I grew up around them and have a lot of experience towing. I also have the common sense to take it a little easier since I’m pretty well maxed out. That doesn’t mean I completely disagree with JD. I think if you are the type that tows every other weekend or even once a month then a more equipped truck would be a good idea. I also think a bigger truck would be a good idea if you lack the experience towing and the common sense to take it easy.
      My argument is that you shouldn’t completely write off a 1/2 ton for towing bigger trailers.

    Love your idea of a long ottoman I'm going to raise you one on that. Why not put slide up rails on each end one long side of the Ottoman and be able to raise a wooden back up if you wanted and slide it down when you don't or are storing it. Could be a patented idea. Just make sure that the rails dip down a little bit below the ottoman so when you use it to put your feet up you're not hitting the top of the wood seatback. My other thought was the table should be moveable in case you want to move it over and use it as a prep area. Just takes a lift up clip
    To reinstall or remove. Also, if you have people on the couch and people on the ottoman with table in between you've added some people room for dinner. There you go...

One thing I would love to see would be a floating or swivel table for the couch so you can sit there watch tv or view the great outside even work also eat and not have to be at the desk area. Would be nice to see the incorporation of the max bed storage feature like used on their northern spirit trailers. The drawers are nice now but for a full timer like I’m hearing up to be that max bed storage is a major hit on my wish list for my next last unit. 😁💛. Topic request! Please do a video about 5th wheel front shelf heights vs contemporary pickup bed rail heights. Our 2021 Chevy 2500 bed was much higher than the leveled height of the fifth wheel we bought. New 5th wheels rarely show this in specs. This mismatch might necessitate suspension or tire mods for level towing (and balanced axle loading).

    Nice unit, but a twin bed version should be offered. Manufacturers don't seem to realize that there is a market twin bed couples units. A lot of couples travel (not camp) so being able to bring a lot of stuff is not a big priority. We need more cooking space in the kitchen more elbow room in the bath, theatre seating and twin beds without having to pay 200k (look at airstream). And thank you for reinforcing the fact that there are no such thing as a 1/2 ton towable fifth wheel.

    There are not, “a lot of half ton trucks with a cargo weight of 1800 “! Please don’t make these kind of statements with out going to a truck dealer lot and check the stickers on on the door frames. You will soon see that the average cargo capacity on 90% of the 1/2 tons trucks is 1300 lbs. Also unless you put sand bags in your trailer you will not get 1800lbs of cargo in it! That couch is really ugly. Take it out and put in two recliners with a better matching color. Was there any solar on the roof? Moving on!

We had a friend that had years back I think it was 24 or 25 foot long 5th wheel and that was about the norm then. With that said, this layout is very doable and roomy.

Although it’s a nice unit for those that want a smaller 5th wheel and/or want something to tow easily behind a 3/4 ton, if the price isn’t competitive, it defeats the purpose. I really don’t have any complaints about this unit, other than the fact that I would rather see the bedroom drawers to be finished iff with drawer fronts. It looks unfinished to me.

      Your truck specs should be on the door jamb. Take the max cargo/ tow ratings and multiply by 75% to get safe & sane tow amounts. You don’t buy a tow vehicle for “short distance “. The same problems exist on the road whether it is a local or long trip. Doesn’t matter if someone pulls out in front of you 1 mile or 1000 miles from home, still have to stop that RV. Please, please, please don’t believe the “Half Ton” towable crap promoted by RV manufacturers or the salesmen. Also, make sure you are using loaded RV weights, not the empty values RV salesmen seem to give.

    I would never tow a 5th wheel with a half ton. Way too much pressure on the suspension, and way too much weight to stop properly in an emergency.

    It’s hard to find a critique? C’mon, JD. You’re losing credibility very quickly given your relationship with Coachmen. How about we start with carpet in the bedroom? This is 2024 and they’re still using “carpet”? …and they’re still using plastic sinks in the bathroom? C’mon, JD. C’mon, brother.

      Sounds like a personal preference and not necessarily something wrong with the trailer

      @@ANathan123 I disagree. Completely. Manufacturers use carpet because it’s cheap. This is a statement on the overall quality of the rigs that they are building.
      If you’re into cheap, then sure. I guess that’s a personal preference.

      The reason for the plastic sinks is to help keep it under the weight limit.

      @@Carol-D.1324 I disagree. The reason they use plastic sinks is because it’s cheap….like their trailers…while the manufacturers laugh all the way to the bank at the consumers.
