I take a trip on a very poorly sounding 1460 which was operating the 5A Service. This was struggling to quickly get to a high speed along the dual carriageway and instead just limped along at a slow pace.

Yeh. He did an alright job to be fair. He was also on time too which was good, considering the Limp Mode.
