    Ireland fought for independence, kicked the crown out, left the commonwealth, tore down the statues and renamed the streets after the Irish rebels that fought the crown. The Caribbean people should do the same

    • @alexanderSydneyOz
      @alexanderSydneyOz 2 года назад

      That is quite a fanciful view of what happened. There certainly was an uprising, but the Crown was hardly 'kicked out'.
      en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Irish_War_of_Independence#Post-war_evacuation_of_British_forces
      And your forgot the bit about the ensuing civil war in which Irish people killed more of each other than had died in the earlier conflict.
      en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Irish_Civil_War

    • @johnswn255
      @johnswn255 2 года назад +1

      @@alexanderSydneyOz it's not fanciful. The uprising didn't directly lead to British troops leaving the island of course. But it was a turning point in public attitudes to tolerating British rule. The years that followed the uprising, and the British unable to control the people through force, without them being attacked by the army of the people, eventually led to them leaving Ireland. If the British had a choice they would have stayed. We(I am Irish) the people forced them out, through politics and armed fighting.

    Go for it . Emancipate yourselves from mental slavery. Ireland removed Queen Victoria's head and the Australians accepted her but the people themselves had to remove Nelson. We have to heal the trauma of colonialism and more importantly the internalisation of it. Blessings to the people

    Brother Joseph (Bob Marley) suggested Jamaica should be incorporated as a state somehow into Africa. The African Union has a Diaspora Division. But this division is not doing enough to integrate the cultures, challenges, and economies of Our Family taken away and those who remained in the continent. I&I would be interested to hear Our Elder Muta's views on how Africans can create a plan that benefits Africans in Jamaica, the entire African continent, and the full Diaspora. Blessed Love!

    My opinion on this is that in order to become really independent, we need to spend some time readying ourselves for independence and I don't see that we've been doing that at all. So it's not to say it's not a good vision, just that it requires investment and planning. We are functionally independent as it is. I agree with the PM that it won't make much difference either economically or psychologically. I mean, how far are we gonna go in ridding ourselves of British insignias? Are we gonna give up the language too? That's a whole new can of worms that would do us more good than any other. Writing one language in schools and speaking a different one on the streets is one of the most crippling, debilitating construct there ever could be but as I hinted, this is a whole new can of worms which would be straying from the topic, but a very worthwhile can to open in another conversation

    I understand what you saying but I do agree with the prime Minister. When you are outside looking in its different from when you are inside looking out - Before he was elected was one thing but since he occupies the highest office in the land he learned that being a republic won't give Ja any advantage - A matter of fact Barbados is now feeling it because now that they are not a part of the commonwealth they are no more entitled to certain financial aid and a lot of other privileges like travel etc.
    Look at Egypt for example - Its one of the oldest civilization in the world but because they dismantle their leaderships and constitution so often, they lost their history and identity. Each time a new ruler took over they changed or destroyed everything from the former and today they are further from their African roots than ever.

    Interesting observations and alot of truth there, but Jamaica IS independent and if the nation wants to become a republic, it only needs to inform the British Crown that its services are no longer required. It's not like the Queen, or the UK, is trying to exert influence, or would object in any way.
    I'm in Australia. It's exactly the same situation. The ONLY thing the Queen does, is appoint the governor general, when our PM asks her to. So personally I don't care at all about but being a republic. If the symbolism is important, and I get that out might well be to many Jamaicans then just do it. But remember that it makes absolutely no practical difference, as there same people will still be in parliament making the same laws etc.
    The issue here is with Jamaicans not being able the change, not former colonialists trying to hang on to something

      @@SutekhDaSteemroller Central banks! The same argument applies: you cannot have a banking system without a central bank. Not least because private banks all have an account with the central bank, and that is how banks transfer funds between themselves. Without that, you cant make a transfer to someone with an account at a different bank. Central banks also normally provide deposit guarantees for depositors (within some limits) and lend to banks when they need cash. Equally, good luck running an economy without a central bank. EVERY country has one, and for the same reasons.
      I am not very clear why you would call central banks "parasites", given that they don't deal with the public and are not-for-profit.
