I thibk thats why I fell in love with this band when I was younger. Never understood the words because I was like 9, but the visuals and sounds made it interesting to a little kid... According to Jamie, a hologram is sensitive to the low frequency of bass sounds so the louder the bass, the more risk of the hologram distorting and falling apart on stage. He said it’s either good quality holograms or a super dumbed down bass concert and that wasn’t an option. Gorillaz music uses heavy bass sounds as their appeal. So it got switched to video performances as of Plastic Beach instead of risking faulty holograms on tour. Plus Damon really wanted to interact with the crowd more after Demon Days.
I just found this video again. It’s crazy how I was 11 years old back then, and this performance totally imprinted itself. It was and is really something special. And I am still a huge fan to this day.

I’m “gen y” so I am actually a true millennial and after me came gen z/ post millennials. 20+ years ago when I started going to Dave Matthews concerts (my main love) and others as well, it was being in the moment and capturing the incredible energy. And for encores as we lifted up lighters!!!!. Now everyone has their cell phones out! It trips me out. I really agree with you and I hope that younger kiddos will somehow take a step back and appreciate the talented geniuses up on stage and live in the moment and stop trying to be relevant.

Никогда не понимал слов, потому что мне было лет 8, но визуальные эффекты и звуки сделали их интересными для маленького ребенка...
Очень благодарен, что нашел эту группу, когда был моложе в 2008, а не сейчас. Тем самым я не многое потерял, в отличие от тех, кому не повезло найти его сегодня.
It’s kinda amazing how people really don’t need to the artists to be excited for a concert. I’m not down talking anyone who likes Gorillaz as I’m a fan too but it’s amazing how people can get excited even if the artists aren’t there in person. I guess it’s the experience that matters
BanzaiBomb honestly I think it’s cooler when it’s holograms of the members. It adds a different feel to it or something, makes them feel almost real, and I really appreciate that
I have a hard time believing anyone wouldn’t be excited seeing holograms play at a concert like this, I would kill to see that in person
Thats the whole reason they're a virtual band I think, to show that it can indeed be the music people go to watch.
Imagine after the show, they had this thing where the holograms were outside and you could interact with them and they could interact with you. That would be awesome..

I remember this being all over the news in the uk when it happened. Think I was around 8 at the time, I remember silly mum’s complaining about Murdoc in his underwear not being “appropriate”. That didn’t stop me from thinking it was the coolest thing ever. I didn’t even really know who Gorillaz were at the time, just knew I liked their music. Now I’m 23 and still do!
