Very nice Tim. Will be tying a couple of these for the box and make a "bright" complimentary tie - the same pattern but with a gold bead and a hot-spot collar. Cheers! Hank
tightlinevideo about thread tim have you ever tried semperfli nano silk it's all I like to use now after I tried it and it comes in 6/0 12/0 and 18/0 👍 and it's still the strongest thread I've ever yoused in 18/0 the only thing is that it's $6.25 per spool.
Absolutely buggy. Love it! Thanks for sharing as always. Also enjoyed Matthew Grobert's presentation last night at TU with your contributions. Will be trading some Reindeer hair for snowshoe rabbit.
AJBB My two cents besides the obvious tools and vise would be: peacock herl, pheasant tail, partridge, grizzly hackle, various dubbing colors, tungsten beads, small copper wire, deer hair, and ep fibers (or poly yarn). You can probably tie most dry flies and nymphs with those materials. As you tie, you'll naturally amass a ridiculous amount of tying materials as you "fill in the gaps" of what you need. A beginners starter pack of tying materials isn't a bad idea either, and it generally supplies you with the aforementioned basics.
Hi tim are you going to be at the traditional anglers day this year cause I've never been and would love to and just saw the video you did a few years ago on it great pictures of those Hendrickson too in that video thanks. Tommy
The idea is to not disrupt the tail of the fly with the first wrap of copper wire. Since this fly is to be counter wrapped, I tie in the wire on the near side. For a normally wrapped rib (say over a dubbed body), I'll tie in the wire on the far side of the hook. There will be an Orvis Tips and Techniques video on the concept shortly.
I am from Finland and i understand everything you speak very clear, your videos is high quality +good light and simple. You are better than PRO.
Love this fly! Great for early spring, and can catch anything from cutties to small bass!
As always very good instruction and a great little nugget of fly!
Love the way you always do things that we bit different !!! Great fly

Sounds great. These also look pretty good with a hot spot thread color, the UV resin kinda magnifies the thread.

Great tie looks good.
You should make a video on getting started on fly tying like what to get for the basic flys. Just beginner stuff! Also love your videos!

"As you tie, you'll naturally amass a ridiculous amount of tying materials"... Yup! That is the truth!
Thanks for all of your videos. You’ve taken me from beginner to I’ve tied a thousand flies.

1:28 Why the near side? I have heard this numerous of times from fly tiers, but never understood why!
