Sly cooper was the best game series ever, with an amazing plot and flushed out characters along with one of the best villains I have ever had the privilege of fearing as a kid.
The Sly Cooper trilogy (along with the Jak & Daxter and Ratchet & Clank trilogies) is one of my all-time favorite series. There are no modern games that are as good as these three legendary franchises. Modern games once finished, I rarely play them again, while these 3 trilogies I play them at least 2-3 times a year, because they never bore me.
Remember renting this game as a kid and played it with my siblings. Good times! Then beat the other ones to! They just don't make games like this now and days.
when playing this as a kid the ONLY way i was able to beat the voodoo boss was by dancing the moves to it - to like enforce a mind/body focus. it was fun
Walkthrough Text: Story: The Cooper Family live their lives as thieves until 1 day when the fiendish 5 broke into the House killing the family and stealing the pages of the book. After, Sly, The son of the family of Coopers forced to live in the orphanage where he met his 2 pals: Bentley, the brainiac with a powerful wisdom. But hes somewhat of a coward and gets scared easily. Murray, the Brawn with a poweful fists! But he isnt very smart! With the 3 of the fellas, they make a good reliable team... They pulled off heist after heist since their first meeting. Then Bentley saw and told the Team that Camerlita fox is holding a Secret File to the case involving the killing the Cooper Family. So they came up with a Plan to steal the File and Track down the Fiendish Five. So they went to Foxes Office in Paris and stole it. They read the File and read the info on the Fiendish 5 that are bounds accross the World doing Evil things in the country. Gameplay: This is a 1 hit platforming gameplay meaning if you take even 1 hit, you die. Whats even worst, you lose a life. Life system: You start the game with 5 Lives. If you run out of lives and died again, you get a game over screen asking if you wanna continue or not. If you say yes, you have to restart the whole Level. Checkpoints: They are holograms with sly's face on it. With this, you can restart there rather then restart the whole level. Lucky charm: Also along with the 1 hit kill system, you can take a lucky charm which gives you a extra hits. However you can only get up to 2. Blue and yellow. Yellow: 3 hit points Blue: 2 hit points None: 1 hit point They are close when you hear them. Coins: the currency of the game. You can get a lucky charm by collecting one in field but you can also get on by getting 99 coins. Every 99 coins, you get a extra charm or extra life if you have yellow charm. Combat: Now the meat of the gameplay is the combat. The combat involves you swinging your cane, using your abilities to kill enemies or gaurd. Stealth: This game also strongly involves stealth which gives a 1 hit kill a good reason to be here. Stealth abilities include: Sidle, grabbing on hooks, and walking on ropes. More will be found later. Clue bottles: there are 20-40 of these in each level. Collecting all of them lets bentley give you the code when you interact with the vault to get a new Ability. Switch abilites with L2/R2. Treasure Keys: they are found at the end of levels. Grabbing one will automatically let you exit the levels. They are used to get to later portions of the hub levels and to enter the boss. Be prepared before you go to the boss. Holographic markers: they are shown as giant green spike auras shown over entrances to levels and exits from levels. You can also heard them when your close. Controls: X: jump □: swing cane ○: stealth abilities /\: use abilities L1: Bino-u-cam L2: switch abilites R2: switch abilities R1: R3: L3: Select: Map Start: Menu Walkthrough: Chapter: Prologue Level 1: Paris, France Sly and bentley will talk. You will hear old sirens throughout this level. Anyways, go up the ramp to get to the tank or whatever and bentley tells you how to "sidle" which uses to take cover behind objects, building and such. And you can also move while taking cover. Press x then hold ○ to sneak around the tank then jump on a few platforms to get to the pipe then walk through it. Then at the end, you will see lasers below you. Jump on each platform down while avoiding the lasers. If you touch one, the siren at the end will go off and the lasers turns red. They will burn Sly upon Contact the next time he touches them. However, you can turn them off by destroying the siren at the end. Go down the hall go left then turn another left to the red door. Its locked so you need to go outside and walk alongside the building exterior. Head inside Foxes Office and open the Safe to get the Secret File. But you need the code to open it. No worries Bentley will tell you the code. Enter the Code as Bentley told you with the 3 digits(1-9 each digit). Tilt stick up/down to change numbers. Once they are matched, The Safe is open and the File now yours to keep. Anyways head outside and wait a sec... did i just hear Criminal?... Yes i did from Mrs Fox Herself. After a brief Lovely discussion between the 2, she will start shooting shock pistol at you. Dodge these while making your way down stairs to the ground level. Collect Coins if needed but keep going. Anyways watch out that her shots can make cars explode here. N Jump over warning signs but watch out for the shots and exploding vehicles and enter the van. After that, you will get a cinematic Cutscene that will Explain his past and his plan. Van: This is your hideout for the game. Here you can: Select a chapter to go to Watch a movie You only have 1 movie and 1 chapter to go to. So click on it to go onto the chapter in Western Europe. Chapter 1: Tide of Terror(Raleigh) Episode 1: A Stealthy Approach Clues: 20 As soon as you enter the level, the music will give you goosebumps as its powerful at first. Anyways ahem... head up into the cave then out. *Bentley Talks* Bentley will give you a rundown on climbing ladders, ropes and such. These are just basics. Compare to other games, you dont have many stealth abilties. You will get more soon. After bentley talks to you, you have a wide open area to move around in. Towards your left is the boat. Walk towards it and you will see these bottles with a cap on them. It looks like they have a letter or a clue hmm... anyways pick these up to add 2 bottles to your clue bottles(2/20=10%). Walk up and take the enemy down. Wack the mast support beam to get 2 clue bottles(4/20=20%). Go back up to the trees under the rope right from where you entered and grab a clue bottle(5/20=25%). Climb the rope to the right and grab another clue bottle(6/20=30%). Climb the rope to the left to the big tree and grab 2 clue bottles(8/20=40%). Go to the ladder in that wide open area and grab the clue bottle(9/20=45%). STOP!!! *bentley talks* What bentley said is that these searchlights can fry to the crisps. But only if you touched them TWICE! They are similar to the lasers found in paris, france. If you touch one, siren goes off and the flashlights turn red. Remember touching them again will kill sly. But wont kill him if sly has a charm on his back. Also bentley points out the checkpoint thats up ahead. Get by one so bentley can checkmark your progress. Meaning if you die, you will restart from there. Anyways continue to head that way. But watch out. These enemies are no pushovers in this game. But you still need to becareful because they can kill you in 1 hit. Jump over the starfish he throws and attack him to kill him. Continue and you will see the machine bentley mentions. Once you get by one, sly icon will pop up. *bently talks* Bentley will tell you that the source of rain comes from the storm machine that raleigh set up. But sly says regardless of rain or shine, he will still doit. Head up and take the enemy out. And cross the water here. Becareful when crossing the water as it has a strong current pushing you toward the edge of the water. You most likely end up on the branch but the branch has 2 clue bottles on it so pick them up(11/20=55%) Head accross another water here by jumping on the rocks.
I remember The Lair Of The Beast being the bane of my existence when I played this game as a kid. I was sooo scared of that chase with the beast that I almost couldn't finish the level.

Nice longplay video of Sly Cooper and the Thievius Raccoonus, and I even still have the original Sly Cooper game for PS2 along with the HD port of the game for both PS3 and PS Vita as part of The Sly Collection, and I also have the digital version of the original PS2 game to play on both PS4 and PS5 since this game was also recently released digitally on the PlayStation Store for both PS4 and PS5.
This is a pretty good intro to a really good series. I remember how I beat the game for the first time, but I couldn't see the ending because it was a used game and it kept freezing when I beat Clockwerk.
For those of you wondering about the health system in the sly franchise the 1st game's health system is similar to the crash bandicoot franchise collect horseshoes for extra hits but in later games a Seperate health bar is given instead

Europe sometimes gets weird names. They sadly miss out of the double entendre titles like the Ratchet & Clank series. 'Going Commando' , 'Up Your Arsenal'. One of the names proposed for 'A Crack in Time' was 'Clockbusters'. One for 'Into the Nexus' was 'Into the Nether Regions'.
