Emmy Nem it is also the most inaccurate depiction of this story slanted for women, for the original story (without modern additions) had women being the punishment. The beautiful evil. This did a disservice to the story.
Pandora was the first human woman created by the gods, specifically by Hephaestus and Athena on the instructions of Zeus. The Greek story of Pandora has influenced the Hebrew-Christian story of Adam and Eve. Pandora comes from one of Hesiod's poems, Works and Days. He expands upon her origin, and moreover widens the scope of the misery she inflicts on mankind. Pandora brings with her a box containing "burdensome toil and sickness that brings death to men, diseases and a myriad other pains: Prometheus had warned his brother Epimetheus not to accept any gifts from Zeus. But Epimetheus did not listen; he accepted Pandora, who promptly scattered the contents of her box. As a result, "the earth and sea are full of evils". One item, however, did not escape the Box, and that was Hope=Ελπίδα. Deucalion, with the aid of his father Prometheus, was saved from this deluge by building a chest. He used his device to survive the deluge with his wife, Pyrrha (9600 bc).
This is an old comment, but since it's at the top and incorrect I figured I would add a comment. Adam and Eve are in the book of Genesis which is part of the Pentateuch (5 books or scrolls), the first 5 books of the Bible. It was written roughly 1440-1400 BC. Hesiod was active between 650-750 BC so NO he didn't influence the story of Adam and Eve. Quite the other way around if anything. Greece and Isreal were close politically and economically during that time so much so that Greece influenced Israeli society and architecture. Jews who dressed and lived like Greeks were referred to as Helenizers at the time by more observant Jews.
…3 But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die. 4 And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die…6 And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat. Gen. - Bible. God = Zeus, Serpent=Mercury/Hermes, Eve=Pandora.
Mr. Aszure perry: Sounds like the Adam and Eve story was copied from this, especially the part about Prometheus"breathing" life into the clay humans, as in Genesis god "breathed" life into Adam.
