I could watch dyeing videos all day 😍 I love the technique of wrapping the yarn around the tongs/tweezers and putting and sitting it in the pot handle!! #genius
I absolutely love this video. And the colors you achieved. And the whole free flowing, adventurous technique. And how 2 hanks became 3, and then on to 4 hanks because you could. I just found out about dyeing with these food colorings. Your video has given me the confidence to go play and explore the possibilities. Thank you for freeing my creative spirit.
Hello Laura! Wow! It was great to see & hear the process you go through to dye your yarns!! My question is: once it’s a sweater: **How do you wash it the 1st time? **What kind of laundry soap?? Thanks for a fun video!!👍🏻👏🏻🤗
i don't like pink colors but the green and the purple are my favorite. i only dye with foodcoloring for 4 years now it's very addictive and always a suprise how it works out
It was interesting to see how different people dye yarn. If you want different colors in different parts of yarn, you should use less water in more flat container and stronger acid so that it sets quickly. If you have a lot of water in a deep pot like that, it would be very muted in color differences like that. Only time I will use a lot of water like that is if I want a solid color. Food coloring is an economical way to get started, thanks for the video.
I had to stop using the those little pots of gel food coloring because they dried out on me SO FAST!!! so I switched to the wiltons color right system food coloring and really like them, it is also easier to figure out how much of each dye I used as I just keep track of how many drops i've added :)
I have also had good luck with the drops! And it's much more liquid, so no stirring! Also you can compare the pigments used in wiltons dyes to get exact recipes! I think the drops have the pigment info on the packaging, and likely online, too. I do watercolor painting and it was fun to apply some things I've learned about mixing colors by their pigments! I had such a hard time mixing purples with food dye until I paid attention to this... lol
seriously got me scared at 21:31 when you decided to submerge that glass jar into the boiling water! Glass can shatter so violently because of stress from sudden heat changes... please be more careful in the future.
So freaking pretty!
Way to combine my love of tie dye and yarn! All came out beautiful!
Long videos are my thing! Make more long videos showing all the cool crafty things!!!😍

Loved this longer style of video, and all of those colors turned out beautifully! Do you know if the food color method only works for protein fibers?
I think yes from what I read earlier today. But I'm trying with some cotton as an experiment.
Howdy, Laura. What food coloring do you use? Any resources on dyeing with food color?
Thunder sent me 🐶

Hey lovely lady! Long time no see :) thanks for leaving a comment! Also, I will check out that dye :D

Excellent , can you please tell me what type of yarn you have used please thankyou very much
Sure. I used Briggs & Little regal wool in washed white dyed with food colouring and set with vinegar. Thank you Thank you.
What yarn did you use for dying?
It’s been a long long time since I was here. So hi all.
What was in your pre soak steam pot and how long did you steam the yarn in there?
There was about a cup of vinegar in the pot of water and I simmered just until the water cleared. Thanks, Laura 👋
