    What do you guys think? We know the BUD is awesome for jazz guitar gigs, but what about as a super portable Helix (or amp emulator) platform?

    If the volume goes up to 11..... I'm definitely buying it, that's all I needed to know !!!
    It's so hard to find an amp that goes all the way to 11 !!!

      You're being sarcastic,right?the decal can go from 1to any number.it's meaningless,just a continuum of increasing or decreasing volumes.

      @@johnmoooo5804 First of all, practice your grammar by putting the proper spacing between letters and begin a sentence with a capital letter before you are so quick to judge someone else. How old are you? 13? 14? Continuum ?!?! Sounds like a big word for you.
      The '11' reference was from the movie "Spinal Tap", which you have obviously never seen, otherwise you would have understood my comment.

    I saw Doug McDonald play in Hawaii who played a gig with full drum set, and amplified bass. Doug played through this itty bitty mega Brute. And the sound was strong easily cutting thru the drums and bass

    Great review and video. These amps are amazing. Much better that toting the old Roland J120 Jazz Chorus amp with twin twelves.

      I don't think you can draw that conclusion from this demo. Besides that you'd need to know how he preferred his settings on that Helix device of his, they also haven't addressed that The Bud has a Gain control which is, I believe, like a pre-amp, designed to adjust for low or high output pickups/mics/devices. It doesn't seem as if they made use of that function.

    I was waiting for the electric guitar test at 16:00 ! very helpfull to know it takes pedal as well ! I would have liked a test with the aux input, to play with a backing track ....
    According to you, does the Blu sound the same with an electric guitar too ?

    • @GASTV
      @GASTV  4 года назад +2

      Only managed to try the Blu while at a noisy guitar show but as far as I am aware it’s the same amplifier with less inputs and features, so it should sound the same (?). I can’t say with 100% certainty though, although an email to Henriksen to simply ask if its essentially the same amp would probably be the best way to confirm it.

    i love this amp, i got the bud too. but what about the non switchable phatom power on the xlr input of the bud when u plug the Helix direct in it?

    • @GASTV
      @GASTV  5 лет назад +4

      The Phantom power wasn't an issue. As far as I know you can have phantom power on and if the device doesn't need it, the power isn't drawn. Let me know if you find out otherwise.

    Nice video. Does the Bud take the place of your other amps or complement them? I already have a Princeton and a Jazz amp12, Swart Ast, Champ, Supro, ZT, etc and I'm trying to justify buying the Bud. Please advise. Thanks!

    • @GASTV
      @GASTV  4 года назад +4

      It really does depend on your circumstances (I'm being very helpful, I know 😝). In my opinion the biggest thing going for the Bud is its size and quality of its clean sound. Coupled with all its input and outputs it is extremely versatile for a working musician. For my jazz gigs with archtops and humbuckers it's a no brainer... I personally prefer the sound of the Bud to everything else I have access to. It works for any size gig as I can simply DI it to a PA system and keep the Bud next to me as a monitor. If I needed to save space and my back, I think it works well as a general pedal or Helix platform. So for my mixed gigs where I am doing a jazz set with one group, then playing in a rock band later, I get really tempted to do everything on the Bud and Helix (not the pedals) and it does work for me. If I were doing the rock band only, I would probably prefer to bring a proper tube amp and pedals to begin with.
      Now that I know how good the Bud is, would it always be an amp I want to make sure I own in my collection? Yes, definitely. I would buy another in a heartbeat if my current one wasn't working and sell one of my other amps to afford it (by the sounds of it you have quite the collection and probably have one or two you don't use as much).
      Hope that helps somewhat.

      @@GASTV Thanks man! I'm going to get it! ( ...then I will sell something). It will be my first amp with bluetooth!

    Just wondering about mobility after carpal tunnel surgery. Long term update please ?

    • @GASTV
      @GASTV  Год назад

      Thanks for asking. Absolutely no issues post surgery. The procedure was largely uneventful (other than me being an idiot and pushing myself to play too soon) and my hand was back to normal in the weeks following the last video updates.
      Have gotten several queries about whether I thought the procedure was the correct thing to do. In my mind, there was no other choice as the alternative would eventually lead to lost of sensation and mobility in the hand, long term irreversible nerve damage and muscle degradation. By contrast, the procedure was a simple cut of some underlying tissue with no loss of any hand functionality and minor healing. Putting a pin and plate in to fix a broken bone would be significantly more invasive but we wouldn't hesitate to do it if we needed it.
      Have heard of a few negative experiences from viewers but mostly related to the lack of post-operative care in various health systems (cough*USA*cough) rather than anyone being butchered.
      Hope that helps.

    So do you still have it? Any change of thoughts in 4 years? Thinking about getting one 😎👍

    • @GASTV
      @GASTV  9 месяцев назад

      Definitely! I do mainly jazz guitar gigs and it has been my main amp since I got it. Sits on top of my largely unused Princeton Reverb. I teach jazz guitar everyday and we plug in clean to it for lessons. I carry it to every gig. Jazz guitar gigs, clean sound for pretty much everything I do. Most gigs it's just that alone, fills the whole bar, restaurant or wedding reception. If I need more volume I carry an extra speaker cabinet or plug into the venue's PA system.

    • @wherewoodbinetwines
      @wherewoodbinetwines Год назад

      So use Ch 2 as your main guitar channel. Other than the aux input both channels are otherwise the same, so what's the difference to you? I mean, most of us use Ch 2 on our Fender amps, Ch 1 having been built for microphone input and having less gain.
