Completely bombs/runs out of memory when processing a folder with 1000s of images. Wish Pixelmator had a built-in batch function vs using macOS shortcuts.
It would be helpful if you could share some of these pre-made shortcuts with us as a download. This is a great tool but I'm not sure how competent many of us will be with creating the shortcuts ourselves. Thanks for the video.
Hey, thanks for the insightful video. I really love your app! I especially like the integration of Apple Photos through the extension with preserving edits. Is there a way using shortcuts to batch process an edit on multiple images directly from Apple Photos and save them in a way that doesn't create a duplicate, but embeds the edits like in the Apple Photos extension? That would be a gamechanger for me! Thanks and appreciation for your good work!
Hi guys! Really love your app and I am switch to using photos and Pixelmator for all my pictures. Just one question, is it possible to make it so that every time I want to edit a photo in "Photos"-app it automatically opens up Pixelmator directly? I know I can just press open with and go that way. but retouching 20 000 pictures gets my arm sore:) Maybe with shortcuts or is it not possible? Anyway very good app and I I am a very happy customer. Cheers from Sweden
This is so superb! Thanks a lot! Question... how would one make so that the converted files are moved into a newly created folder in the same place where the converted files are stored?
in shortcuts Get File Name of shortcut input, then Pixelmator Convert to Jpg, then Save Converted file, choose location for main directory, click Show more, fill Subpath with MagicVarriable of GetFileName then add a / , then you can use GetFileName again after the / then type say "-modified.jpg" after it. So subpath would look like AaName/AaName-modified.jpg , and that will create a folder named the image passed to it and save it there. I know, 10 months ago asked, but someone may find it helpful.
Hah, well it's about time! But really, it's up to you - obviously, you won't have Shortcuts on Catalina, but you can definitely try out Pixelmator Pro itself to see whether you like it by downloading the free trial: www.pixelmator.com/pro/free-trial/ You've got nothing to lose. 😉
If you've edited a photo and would like to apply the same color adjustments to other images, save the color adjustments as a preset. Then, using the "Apply Color Adjustment Preset to Image" action in Shortcuts, you'll be able to batch apply it to any number of other images.
Thanks for the suggestion! We'll keep it in mind for the future. In the meantime, you might want to look into another automation app Pixelmator Pro supports - AppleScript. We have actions like Select Color Range and applying a layer mask available there, so they might help you cover a part of your workflow.
@@PixelmatorVideos Where can I find a glossary of commands available for Applescript? I have looked for those and not found any. I like the Shortcuts because it runs in background and seems to be lighter on resources rather then Tell application and opening documents, which can be ram heavy, etc.
The whole library of commands is available in the Script Editor app. You'd want to choose Window > Library (from the Window meniu in the Menu bar), then find Pixelmator Pro there in the list of apps. It is also possible to run scripts from within the Shortcuts app using the Run AppleScript action which might be worth to experiment with.
Struggling with the "Match colors of Images" shortcut. Is it possible to choose the Source image dynamically, after I activated a shortcut by passing the selection through quick action?
I would say yes, because the Source is a variable, which could be anything passed. So a group of photos could be ran in a Repeat with Each and you could add an IF and Get File Name, so say one photo is named MatchSource.jpg and the rest random names, IF FileName is MatchSource then add to variable MatchSrceVariable. Now place the Match Source Variable in Source for your match color action. that should do it.. and it is in a loop , so you could have a folder, or a magic folder on mac of search results etc of Hundreds or thousands of images, select them all and make sure to select the MatchSource.jpg , right click and run the shortcut on the images. You could even get real in depth and search for image, etc, but above is how id do it.
Hey, glad you liked the video! There isn't a dedicated image slice action as such but it should be possible to create carrousels by combining other available actions - like Resize and Crop - together. We've marked this as a potential future tutorial idea. 🙌
Is there a way to edit one photo then apply the same changes to a series of photos? For example, a timelapse? I just started using pixelmator and I’m loving it! But I often shoot Timelapse photos and I couldn’t figure out how to apply the same edits to all of them.
is there a way to auto-save to the same directory and overwrite the files being enhanced? it sounds minor but ends up being pretty cumbersome that I have to be around to manually save them right now.
nevermind, I figured it out. you use "get parent directory" of shortcut input, then in save file, ctrl+click on the Save to variable, select magic variable, then click on parent directory.
Seems far more convoluted than using Automator, lots of steps just to batch enhance images using Shortcuts, while doing the same with Automator is just, open Automator, select Quick Action select enhance images , only benefit I can see is if the shortcut also works with Pixelmator on the iPad?
The steps are pretty much identical in Shortcuts - open Shortcuts, click the '+' button, add the enhance images action. The shortcuts won't work in Pixelmator on the iPad, but with this infrastructure, it should be easier to bring it over to iOS/iPadOS in the future.
@@PixelmatorVideos I guess its just what I am used to. BTW its a fantastic App, my go to image editing app, one bug I have discovered if batch processing images, (When running Automator script), if I batch convert say 100+ images from PNG to JPG, about 10& will turn up blank images?
How far away from implementation is the ability to rotate the stamp tool? I’ve been waiting too long for this function. It can’t be that hard to implement, surely? And it’s absence is the one thing that’s making me look elsewhere.
We're not currently working on this feature so, for now, it's an unspecified amount of time away. 😬 But we'll see if we can find some space for it on our roadmap!

Don't think so. You can also drag and drop the image to the Pixelmator Pro icon in the dock. Might be quicker.

Great Features! To be honest, I'm still on Adobe, but I really like these new features! 😀
I struggle with setting the Save File action to auto save on the desktop file by file - any tip?
You have to place everything within Repeat with Each, you can even then give a save name, or identifier random digit, options are endless.

try saving it as a preset in pixelmator pro and then using automation to apply that preset to multiple images
