- If you are in need of crystal clear definition even with the highest gain settings, then these pickups might be for you. There are a lot of options to chose with some push pull pots... installation might not be for the amateur, but the results are stunning!

I didn't want to buy in to the hype until I recently tried a guitar and had the chance to compare pickups. Then I came to your video on this topic (as a long time subscriber no-brainer) and have to say, that your video is the first one to properly capture the tonal differences of these pickups compared to passive/other actives etc.
Good job!
Just reading a few of the crap posts below, when was the last time someone said, hey, THANK YOU EytschPi42, for taking the time and research this for me:) I love Dimarzio's but wow, these pups are very tempting to put into my guitar. I always find your vids entertaining and informative. Thanks!!
One of my favourite channels on RUclips, thanks for sharing your content, humour and knowledge 🤘
Great job shedding some light on the installation process! I installed on a semi hollow and it took 9 hours. Then I realized the "HF Tilt" was not what I needed in any situation so I had to pull out and reinstall with coil split, and SERIOUSLY, if I didn't have a a professional electronics repair background I couldn't have done it. Fishman should make terminals for the coil split the same connectors as the other variations AND provide instructions. To put it in perspective, the fender "Superswitch" is easier to wire than a pair of fishmans in a semi-hollow.
"i don't do accents"
proceeds to have a German accent.
well i mean....he is german...soo....thats normal? kinda like Arnold schawerasrzehrhterao
If hes german he has a natural accent. Him having a french accent would be him doing an accent
@@cordero6960 1 I know you prolly didnt try but your spelling is atrocious. 2 Arnold isnt german.....
For him that's not an accent.
@@gypsieprince717 yeah we know he clearly did that on purpose and yes he’s Austrian
Thank you for making this video! I put Fishmans’ in a Strat of mine, and it was not easy, but I did it myself! I am a total newb when it comes to guitar repair only doing simple pickup, pot and switch replacements.
Issues I had..
1. the leads from the pickups are very very tiny, like five small strands of wire. I recommend using shrink tubing at the end where your wires solder to the push pulls to strengthen the wire and connection.
2. The push pulls are quite large in depth. I had to router out room for them in my Strat body so the pick guard would lay all the way flat.
3. If space is an issue and it was for me. Don’t solder your grounds to the top of the push pulls. Use the sides or the side of the pot itself. Prep the area with sand paper before soldering.
4. The most difficult part was figuring out the wiring to utilize the switching functions I wanted. Honestly the wiring diagrams drove me fn nuts!!
The Fluence pickups sound amazing. Bright and sparkly. I’m getting them.
Finally someone doing a demo of these pickups playing clean with out over saturated effects. thanks. Now if I could find an 8 string demo played clean and dry.
There will be a 9 string with fluence here soon…
@@EytschPi42 very nice, can you please include some samples of clean (reverb ok) extended chords that optimize the range, and some hunter style bass/chord/lead work? Maybe some diminished, minor flat five stuff on the low notes too? If that's not too too much to ask 😃🙏
Fantastic review, and the perfect way to do it - clean, crunchy and distorted, all positions, playing the same riff. Brill. Thanks Henning.
I'm sold on the Modern's, but I was about to jump right in, and install one myself....Yeah, no, I don't know if I'll be doing that myself! Thanks!
I'm going to be honest here, the first time I saw a review of yours I thought you were kind of ridiculous and annoying, but for some goddamn reason I enjoy watching your videos. It's obvious that you LOVE the gear you play, even if you hate it (if that makes sense), and that you really love music. You're an engaging dude. Great work as usual.
X200
Have both modern and classic fluence pickups. Worth it! Trust me, even if people don’t lie active, these sound like crazy hi end passive pickups. I’d luv to install a pair in all all my guitars, beautiful prs btw
Pickups sound killer, but much respect to the amount of effort that obviously went into this video 👍🤘
Wow, your video productions just keep getting better and better. I thought the PRS sounded great to begin with but I do agree that the Fluence set makes it a lot more versatile. I'd say it's a worthwhile upgrade.
I definitely prefer the modern set over the Classics, not just for their intended purpose but overall. I don't know if it is the guitar, but it suits the PRS pretty well. Especially the split sounds were great. You really had some nice prog thingy going with that combo. To be fair, I didn't like the sound of the Fishman's in your Tele and Harley Benton review, but the modern set seems to be a viable option for guitarists who are after that clarity and the modern sound.
Interesting test. To my ears, the Fishman sound great for clean tones, they seem to be really transparent compared to original ones. With high gain they seem to have a scooped sound to me, the mids are way low compared to the original ones.
This is the only video out the that shows the allroundness of these pickups. It's nice to know you can use these other than djent on a low B-string.
"heavy drop d kinda stuff"
-laughs in djent
Let me just stop you right there and tell you that that is one beautiful guitar.
First video that I've seen (after a ton of them) where I can hear some differences. I'm getting an ESP LTD EC1000 Violet Andromeda packed with them and I had a hard time deciding between them and some EMGs 81/60 (on another EC1000). Thanks for posting! Danke, danke!
I completely agree about the wiring instructions!! I just ordered a set and will be installing in the next few weeks. I want the coil tap and voice switching on a two knob system. Glad to know it's possible.
StefanShredsabit
Hey I'm upgrading every piece of my old ass Ibanez. Can you make a video or something and show me what you did? I'm watching all these videos to shed some light about this issue.
Did the two knob system work out for you?
When I’m old and bald I want to have a room like that freaken goals!
The Fishman set just has such a good clarity and note definition. Much preferred them to the PRS pickups.
My Jackson soloist is at the shop right now getting the fishmen mordern installed cant wait to get it back 🤘🏻🎸🔥💣🎶
The clean tone of Fishman is somewhat louder, and definately clearer than the stock, IMO. And it’s very impressive that one pickup has two voices.
I can tell that overall sound of that guitar got better, and more versatile.
The difference between the two are night and day! I personally love all the Fishman pickups!
I have ordered a Schecter C-1 FR SLS Elite which comes with a set of these. Will be very interested to hear how they sound when I get the guitar.
Philip Smith where you at man tell me what you think! My C-1 SLS Elite black burst is gonna be here tomorrow and I'm pumped, also picked up a L ine 6 pod hd500x... maybe return the pod in for helix helix lt?
Hey there you have beat me to it I'm still waiting for my SLS to come in. They have told me sometime this month. Let me know what you think of your black beast when you plug it in. Cheers PJ
Probably the best guitar out there at the moment
Got the same guitar with Floyd and blackburst. Massive output but also the curious effect of sounding great through my tube gear but making my modeling gear sound better than it normally does.
Had one in my hands today. I could say it‘s a beast but that would be an underestimation of the worst kind.
Holy shit, Schecter!
They sound amazing the only thing I wish they had more low end or make another set that has modern and more low end like a emg 85 and 81 together.
Always fun to watch your videos Brother...
Also we have 7 beagles and hope your little buddy doesn’t mind loud guitar
You're hilarious!! Keep the reviews coming! - came across this channel because of the 2019 Ibanez RG 5120M video you did (got one today) - great guitar. Love the Fishman Pickups too.
They were a little tricky to install, but with a little patience and plenty of research I was able to get the job done. I absolutely love them...
Hey Rob, I have a set of the Fishman fluence modern in an Ibanez. They sound so great but my only concern is they seem to be less harmonic, do you notice that?
@@dragnasty540 I put the same ones in my Jackson soloist, they seem to be fine. Make sure you have a good battery in it.
Great demo dude !! So many option on these pickups .
Great video. Your humor kills me 😂.
Those pickups are amazing. I understand why they are so expensive. It’s like buying 3 sets at $100. Each, not that bad once you think about it.
I'm glad to know that I'm not the ONLY professional who was confused as hell by the installation. To make matters worse for me, I'm installing them on a Jackson with a 3 way blade and 2 tones with 1 volume. Super crazy confusing. I am having to use 4 different diagrams to figure this shit out
I ordered this set because of this video .
Lovely guitar .
I would not have the balls to experiment on that awesome blue PRS. That thing is sweet!!
I honestly like the fishmans better because they sound like putting isoacousic foam around a room. It makes the sound more pure and you can add in any effects you want much easier. Passives might be better for really bluesy and classic stuff though where the sound of the guitar isn't layered or aggressive.
Hello. Is it possible to get the wireing that used in you PRS? Thanks allot. Markus
"Amazing" and "Nickelback" two words never uttered in the same sentence until this video.
haha got me there XD
Eh . They are not that bad. They have some good songs and guitar tones
Just finished switching out the EMGs that I used for years to Seymour Duncans. Loved, notice loved as in the past, the sound. But, now I want the Fishman Fluence pups in my guitars. Just weaned off the battery now want to go back to the battery. Think I'll wait for a while and see if the prices come down. Or get G.A.S. and get new guitars to put the Fishman's in. Think that will be what I do. You may ask why Henning said it "Clarity with High Gain". I really prefer tight low end and clear airy top end, no mud. Thanks Henning for the review. Later.
I can't really tell the difference in the high gain sounds but the Fishman pickups rock for the cleaner sounds.
Not interested in the tap/split argument. All of those settings sound great.
I just got to the point in the video where you say that the high gain sounds different :D. Interesting difference in perspective. I do agree about the clarity of the chords.
Fishman are amazing. Currently superior vs all sorts of EMG, Di Marcio etc (personal taste applies). Its just such a clean pickup that have the gut and the balls. Also you made a complete beast out of this PRS. The result is just marvelous.
Have you tested Bare knucles?
I have the Greg set in my Tele and I love them and so does everyone that hears them, even playing metal!
These Modern Fishman pickups sound awesome , thanks for sharing 🎸
Awesome review my friend! I bought these and I'm putting them in a 74 SG shape that I built. 24 fret beast with a VegaTrem and locking tuners. This should R...O...C...K...!!!! You're the best, amigo!
One advantage of push-pull pots is that you can get a quick visual of your settings, not so with push-push.
they come up just the same... no difference
Hey there... this is a great review still laughing at your humor. I would like to know what sinle coal/coaltap setting you choose. You only use 1 knob so that is only optional outer or inner coals right? I want to do it with my fishmans . Now I have the active/passive pull and that doesnt do sh¡t to my tone , so that has got to change. Thnx in advance cheers from the Netherlands 🍻
nobodies what we chose, sorry I didn’t wire it up
That was one of the funniest videos on this I think I've ever seen. Great job man. You definitely got a new subsriber
Your southern accent is as good as my German accent. :)
RG5120 has 2 Ceramic Fishman Fluence Modern Humbuckers :). Not sure why they didn't put the set which is Ceramic + Alnico.
Years ago I purchased a PRS SC245 same color as your guitar and I was concerned about the muddiness with the stock pickups in both the SC245 and SC250 that I played when I was told we sell you a brand new stock PRS 10 Top that comes with Mark Tremonti pickups. I have to say its definitely magical the clean tones, the rich harmonics but it kills when playing metal vastly different sounding then my PRS USA Tremonti. The SC245 has a thicker sweeter sound.
I was able to get a FGN Mythic for 650€ on eBay in new condition. The pickups blew me away. Best ones I had so far.
"I don't do accents."
You do a pretty good Jurgen Klopp imoression. ;)
somebodyelseuk GO THE REDS
They will win the EPL this year
I like this set for this purpose much better than the classic set for that purpose you put into the harley pimpton.
I'm most fan of Fluence Modern! And it's true that d'Addarios NYXL are spot on the best singing strings :) thanks for this video
Is it just for metal? How it sound with different genres?
What about 80s guitar?
These pickups came in my strandberg. They sound great for any kind of music tbh.
Thank you for the great content.
Can't get really used to them for high gain. I have them in a Solar ATGmkII. I actually prefer the passive stock pickups that are in my Caparisons. Yes they have clarity but imo they lack 'growl' and character. I like the cleans tho.
Great video - I wonder if they have improved the directions since? The versatility and clarity of the modern set is amazing - something I would be interested in. The metal sound I like however is more like KK Downing - he uses an EMG set in his V, I think the article I read stated an 81/85 set? Do you think this modern set could dial in that type of classic heavy metal sound - or is there another set you would advice. I think Sawtooth is using Fishmans in their 7 string. Also, another variable I assume you use is volume balancing in the middle position - that would make an interesting video just showing how the volume knobs can be used to blend.
So glad I watched this. I had a really hard time figuring out the gain/high freq. Tilt but eventually figured it out. I saw the coil solder points but like you sad saw no indication of how to do it. I'm working with a tone push pull and a volume, I'll have to change the volume out with the included push pull so I can use it for coil splitting and keep the tone push pull as the voicing selector. Great video!
Could it be that there still was a wiring error? It seemed like the Bridge Pickup sounded fatter when you pulled the voicing pot but the neck PU got thinner.
Another entertaining video and informative. Isn't Fishman pickup active type? How did they do the swap without carving a compartment for battery housing?
it is in the electric cavity
Ok, die klingen echt geil.
Amazing nickelback sound? Are you suffering a headwound?
Bavarian humor
Speaking in terms of production and sound mix,the early Nickleback albums have a really fat ''wall of sound'' sound. It's mostly a PRS singlecut into a Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier.Listen to songs like ''Never Again'' and how fat and punchy the guitars sound, that's what Henning is referring to here.
Lots of rock/metal bands from the early 2000's -era had that sound, for example Linkin Park,it's very characterstic of that era.Like in the 80's all the Hair-Metal bands would use a superstrat with a Duncan JB or DiMarzio Super Distortion into a modded Marshall with lots of chorus/delay and a Tube Screamer
Again,we're talking about sound not actual quality of the music.
Did they have to route a hole in the back for the battery or did they make it fit in the pot cavity?
Do you get clicking on/off when switching? sounds like it - how do you get around this?
Did you end up tapping the inner or the outer coil?
Is this the alnico or ceramic version?
Hello, first of all nice video. Is it possible to send/write the instructions for installing the pick-ups in the same configuration as shown in the video. It sounds great.
Meetin' At Noon! hahaha Love it!
Man i bought some and solder it myself and did a clean job using what they provide but mine stopped working with low output
Thank you! You made it fun learning about Fishman Fluence
👍🏻🎶🎶🤘🏻🎸
.
Do you have the wiring diagram for your pickup configuration ?
best actives out there, clean, gain, crunch. I love those pickups
Fluence moderns don't have good cleans...at least not to me ..
As a side note to my previous comment, I will concede that at super extreme gain the active pickups had more clarity but for any other type of music besides metal, I stick to my earlier thoughts.
hey eytschPi42, which coil tap option did u use? i guess option 3..., hopefully i find a way to use this(single coil / humbucker) with the schecter c-1 sls evil twin i ordered(two pots only)
Hallo Henning ist der alnico humbucker in der bridge oder im neck.
Würde mir gerne einen bestellen nicht zwei weil ich sowieso nur auf der bridge spiele
Wow, your PRS is gorgeous!
Very nicely done comparison! Those Fishman really do sound good.
And do you know, when you are in voicing 2 and pull single coil push pull, is it actually voicing 2 single coil or is it just single coil and voicing option is defeated?
On the list for coil tap wiring options, which one did you choose?
Funny shit when you try to do that country accent !!! Laughed my ass off. Luv your videos, God bless .
that PRS is a beauty.
Great review :). Is it possible to put them in a Jackson Kelly?
sure, why not?
@@EytschPi42 thank you :)
Henning, can you supply the web page that has the wiring instructions for coil tapping? I can't find it on Fishman's site. Thanks.
The previous pickups also sounded MEEEEEEEETAAAALLLL
Are stock pickups PRS factory ones? They looks and sound like DiMarzio ToneZone and Air Norton.
ok these compared to duncan jb s? would it be a massive difference?
it really depends on the guitar and yes, generally, the Fluence sound different than normal pickups and have more clarity and string seperation
@@EytschPi42 STRING SEPARATION? , now that intrigues me!
6:49 What car make/model it is and how do you fit all of your stuff in?!
Ok. I don't care for the negative comments. This is the first video where I can take the measure of the Fluence.
Dude, you are hilarious. I love your videos. I only stumbled across them in my hunt for new pickups. Your responses to the packaging is exactly what I would do: why the "FFFFF?!?!?" wouldn't you several (if not all) of the wiring possibilities that the possibilities describe.....?!?!?! anyway, thank you. I am going to purchase these and look forward to more of your reviews.
Best,
D
What brand of guitar cables do you use?
more crispy sound I like it
It would be cool to maybe in the future see how the tone fits in a mix in comparison to the straight up guitar signal you are using in the video.
Man, I have a question. this are passive or active pickups? On the website they say that they are active, but I didn´t saw any bateries or such in this video. Cheers and thank you !
active
They use d batteries
Even with internet it is incredibly hard to find instructions. I am installing moderns on a Kiesel Osiris with 1 tone, 1 volume, and a 5 way switch. I can't find a damn thing on that configuration! I did learn that you need either a 3 way switch or a 4 pole 5 way switch. None of which is stated in any instructions.
They still havent upgraded the manuals as i have the same problem at the moment ... my god Oo
All the three switchable options (Coil, Voice, Tilt) could be included as long as you could live with a Push/Pull on one of the Volume pots as well as both the Tone pots.
plus one push/pull for Voice1 gain drop
You're right.
Why make choices when you can have it all ??? 8^)
And there's still room for one more Push/Pull... so it can all be done, barring the inner outer coil select thingy.
Hallo Henning 🤗
Kurze Frage ist der alnico oder ceramic Pickup am steg?
3 vidoes later..FUCK now i need them.
