      I just wish to add that we need updated self defense laws and not based on a couple of hundred years British Empire law. We need more legal protection than a whistle, personal alarm, key chains and flash lights. We need to be able to keep Mace or Pepper Sprays, Tasers and yes I know a lot of hard core British loyal Canadians will scold me when I say that I think we should be able to keep and bear firearms. It's not right that criminals can get away with having mortal weapons and we got squat.

They should've asked her, "do you always announce yourself before grabbing a hold of your boyfriend?", "If not, has he ever stabbed you, punched you, etc?" I have no clue as to what his warrant is for, or whether or not he even realized he had a warrant out for his arrest. The officer telling him that he has a warrant and then grabbing a hold of him seems like a normal thing to do, although you never know these days, considering the fact that criminals have more rights than law abiding citizens... time will tell, but yes, the gf is ridiculous and an asset to the problem of today's society.

      Sounds like the officer didn't identify himself as police nor did he then display a badge. Out of fear that the individual would flee or become aggressive upon realizing it was police (flight or fight), the officer possibly failed to identify himself as police and just grabbed him first, triggering fight response.

      All joking aside, I'm always skeptical and cautious about how to judge a situation like this when I don't see for myself what lead up to it. And KNOWING PERSONALLY the kind of corrupt policing from that exact division, trust me it isn't always as simple as the police/media make it sound. That part of town, you don't always want to rely on the police for help even if someone is a fanboy of the police. (that wasn't directed at you to be clear) I used to be like that. Then I grew up and saw alot of them for what they really are and how they are used by our governments and courts. And I've never actually been in trouble with them myself.

      @@cliffm8112 The stats are correct. I can tell you exactly what the issue is... In the early 90s and 2000s, crime was ripe and confined to the 13 priority neighborhoods. I grew up in one of them, and always watched as people in other spots of the city felt safe and content because it never affected them. It seems as if people forgot that crime has mobility, and now that many of the priority neighborhoods have been gentrified and displaced many people, causing them to move to various different spots of the city, those who once felt safe, are now unfortunately experiencing the fear and terror, that those of us once had to deal with. I wish this wasn't the case, and I agree with your sentiments, but this still isn't as bad as it can get, so hopefully the Mayor and law makers can get on top of this problem quickly.

    When we see policemen mistreating innocent protesters especially certified journalists on social media, creates a bad example and perhaps even hate and mistrust toward policemen especially in Toronto. Perhaps the accused was mentally deranged or just disgusted toward policemen for what he'd been seeing and reading in the news. I remember visiting Toronto in 1988. While window shopping on Young street, a young kid approached me and asked me for help because he was just robbed and had a bloody face. I noticed a policeman in uniform about 10 feet away from me inside a store. I decided to enter the store and tell the policeman what had happened with this kid. The policeman instead of investigating the situation, took me by the neck against the wall and told me to mind my own business. Afterward when I arrived home I called the Toronto chief of police to report the cop's behavior. His response was "I don't have time to listen to this" and he hung up. Nothing surprises me these days and for this reason, when I hear of a cop that's been injured or died in the line of duty, doesn't fizz on me one bit nor their family because the cop gets the treatment from the reputation he lived up to.

    • @2painful2watch
      @2painful2watch Месяц назад

      @@Finny-kx3fk My pleasure. That cop should not have manhandled you like that. Abuse of power. After I filed my official complaint to the desk sergeant, two plain clothes cops came to my house a week later for more info. They were very polite and courteous and agreed that what he did was deplorable. I had to wake up my dad in Mississauga that night to have him bring me spare car keys. Peace to you and always be aware of your transitional zones.

    3 officers injured in 3 days?... perhaps we need to ask the questions why? are policies and procedures harming? is it a spike in situations? Do police need specialized training to de-escalate conflicts? is the current state of the economy causing severe responses? This officer stabbed was new to the force, maybe more mental health training needed.? This should never be a us vs them interpretation, these incidents impact everyone involved. The officers, their families, the victim and his family. The bystanders, it has such a trickle-down effect for everyone involved.
    Even people reading these comments and responding to the situation, is causing division.

    "Called for a person in crisis" sent a 22 yr old officer whos likely not too well trained how to de-escalate such situations. Perhaps if this situation was approached differently then maybe we wouldnt be having this convorsation.. Sending a young/newer officer to a call for crisis definetly turned into a crisis

    Mayor Chow is wrong... the state has a monopoly on violence so it is acceptable when done by police or the state. By stating violence is never acceptable she is in fact denouncing the police, military forces or anyone that has authority to commit violence on behalf of the state for any reason... so while she clearly does not mean any of this, it is still odd to throw her own police under the bus.

    Had this been in the USA. It would have ended differently. Officer on the way to the Hospital. Suspect on the way to the morgue. Firing one shot into a suspect is the scare response. Multiple shots is putting the suspect down to end the threat. Suspect could get up walk into coffee shop and find more victims.

    Sounds to me like he is mentally unstable (who carries a huge knife like that!? Possibly schizophrenic) he may have been acting strangely so people called police because of the disturbance. Police arrived with intention of detaining him and taking him down to CAMH, officer got stabbed and shot or maybe even shot then got stabbed (who knows unless they release video surveillance). His "gf" doesnt seem fazed at all which is weird, maybe this is a normal day for her.
    Im glad theyre both okay because we dont know the whole story yet, but its a shame that ontario is going downhill so fast!

    Sadly, more and more Canadians do not support the police, or feel bad when one gets hurt. Maybe it has to do with how police treated the peaceful trucker convoy protestors in Ottawa, trampling them with horses, hitting them with Billy clubs and rifle butts, or the favoritism they show to different groups protesting, like the pro terrorist groups that were treated with kid gloves, coffee and donuts. Compare that to Canadians being rounded up and arrested for protesting the carbon tax or against the clot shot vaccine. I say this as someone who had a family member in law enforcement.

    Gotta love how people are choosing to actually analyze the situation, rather than the whole 'Diversity strikes again' rhetoric. Geez, I wonder why that is???
    On a less petty note, I'm a bit confused by the news report - was the initial call for a person in crisis, or was that call made after the officer was stabbed. Secondly, the girlfriend is making an excuse for a conscious action that her bf took. If the officer informed him of the fact that he had a warrant prior to grabbing him, you can't tell people, "oh, well you never know how people will react when you grab them, and I think the situation could've been handled better - he even apologized after he stabbed the officer"... I have to wonder if she would be this understanding or forgiving if she was on the receiving end of the stab, had it been her who grabbed him unannounced as she said (/s)
