  • This is a Stihl Backpack leaf Blower Model BR340 a friend brought me to see if I could get it back running. This turned out to be an easy fix the spark plug was not firing, replaced the spark plug with the original NGK Part # BPMR7A. It was pre-gaped at .028, just a few pulls woke it back up!

    Hi Cliff, now that was an easy fix! I believe that Stihl is from the mid 90's that's a very nice blower your friend has.

      Hello Alan yes was very fortunate on this just being a dead spark plug. Was thinking it would be the fuel related kept it for a few days to make sure it would continue to start so far so good. He had no idea how old this was, it was passed down to him from his father I will let him know mid 90's, a well built machine. Not sure if you have gotten snow yet seeing if you will be breaking out your snow blowers. We had a short cold blast here and warmed up slightly. Merry Christmas to you and all your family!

      mountainbikekayak We haven't gotten any snow yet, just some flurries the other morning. We had a cold blast here as well. It's supposed to warm up today to around 50 . I haven't got out the snowblowers yet but I need to make sure at least one of them will start! Merry Christmas to you and your family as well Cliff!

    I picked up one for free. Mice like to nest in these so beware. Note, these will flood very easily so using choke is probably only required for the first 2 pulls maybe. Looks like it was just flooded. I dont think your method of checking for spark is the best way possible but I guess it works for you.

    I Landscaped in Arizona for 5 almost 6 years. This is the very best blower I used better than Echo.Even, though Echo has some of the very best hedge trimmers.I kept this Blower :)

    I just got done washing that same blower. The amount of mouse poo that came out of that thing was unreal. Not only did a mouse nest inside the orange shroud under the carb, they went right up the tube into the fan assembly. I also cleaned out 15 dead stink bugs around the flywheel. Its all cleaned up, the spark plug wire is repaired and the ground wire is hooked back up, the new fuel tank with existing gas lines and the tank vent will be here tomorrow and it will be up and running......

      Hello Fearless thanks for viewing wow the mice & stink bugs had taken over that blower found them one nice home! These things are just bullet proof and so well made a few little mice want keep it from running you will have it fixed in no time what great is you can get parts for Stihl. My neighbor had a Husqvarna back pack blower was not sure of the age but it needed a carburetor kit and that part including even a new carburetor were all discontinued. So far no luck finding these parts online or with local dealers.

    • @Mr_Tecumseh
      @Mr_Tecumseh 6 лет назад

      Yea luckily they did not chew up the cushion or straps.
      I cant believe you guys can't find a carburetor for a Husqvarna blower, that's crazy considering they are also a higher end brand. Is it the the really old style sort of round shaped one? Because if so, yea those are very hard to find. Whatever it is maybe you can try looking up a good used one that was tested and known to be working.
      I have also heard of people converting those machines to use newer style carburetors. Sometimes you have to fabricate your own intake if you can get that done, than you can use a new style carburetor. One of those two ways would be your best option. Good luck.

    I was given one of these blowers for free. The last place it was stored mice got into the shroud and it was filled with their nest. They chewed the fuel lines and the tank vent. They also chewed the ground wire gone.They chewed on the side of the plug wire, but they only got the side of it. It still has spark and kicked over on fluid so I know it runs. I priced out the pieces chewed and than I found an entire tank with the fuel lines and other parts cheaper than it would have been to replace it separately. So I ordered that. Tomorrow I am going to finish cleaning all the mouse dropping and piss off the unit. Replace the ground wire and put liquid electric tape on the coil wire. When the new tank with existing fuel lines comes I'll hook those back up and be off to the races. My unit is from around 1999.
    I had to repair the recoil, the spring broke at the end. I was able to make a new bend in the spring and now the recoil is back to working.
    The guy also gave me an FS80 trimmer an HS45 hedge trimmer, those start run and operate. So I'll be into the back pack blower about 25-30 but worth it, these were almost $300 new and still worth $200 in good working order. I'll be keeping this one, its my first backpack blower and its a stihl. All the small engine technicians say that these were the best blowers they ever built, they go and go and go. The newer ones develop major issues and completely fail now, new ones have plastic push rods, those seem to go first on the newer units. So she'll be up and running by Monday-Tuesday

      Too late for the leaf blower now .... We had so many wet leaves from all the trees around messing up our patios but now the snow has taken care of that as I can hear snow shoveling outside ...... Brrrrrr ...... We need a SNOW blower now ....... but the beer's nice and cold outside the door though ..... Man .... some days can get cold.

    Oh you know what else is cool about these blowers> Its too late now but look under the blower Stihl has a little flat head screw driver and a T wrench for the spark plug etc clicked in under their. Also these blowers are capable of being turned into chemical sprayers, for example a mosquito fogger. The grey cap is where the sprayer would attach and a chemical tank would connect to the top of the unit on these. The newer ones don't do that stuff. The new ones have carbs that don't use flat heads so that wont be their either. Like I said according to engine techs who work on Stihl products, they wanted to cry when they did away with this design, the new ones are harder to work on and fail much faster, the plastic push rods is a big weak point. These units here are the best.

      Hello Fearless thanks for viewing and more information on this great Stihl blower. Did not know it had those tools and it could also be used to spray chemicals as well. I fixed it and gave it back to my friend Jeff it was so well made and like you say even the newer Stihl are not as nice as this one. Not sure of the exact age of it but pretty sure this could run for a life time!

      Yes they are great machine's. They are from right around 2000 that era. Taken care of some of these will be around another 20 years. I have McCulloch hand held blowers from the 80's and 90's, those are made very good too, that's why they are still around today.

    is this blower good?

    • @mountainbikekayak
      @mountainbikekayak  5 лет назад +1

      Hello Jay thanks for viewing! They are suppose to be about the best you can buy if you can even find a used one they are really solid machines. Just make sure to use a Non Ethanol gas in your 2 cycle mixture. Ethanol gas will dry out quicker and is really bad for rubber gaskets.
