***PLEASE NOTE*** The Oly35mm 2015/16 project is now closed and I will not be answering any more comments (as from 1st April 2017). Thank you to all who have taken the time to watch these videos, and a special thank you to everyone who commented, or added extra information to them. I wish you all many happy years of using film, or any other photography you enjoy. Cheers Oly
The 35mm f/2 makes a nice standard lens in my view forc35mm film camera. I used it a lot because I found 50mm a bit cramped on image angle and I couldn't afford or find that gorgeous 40mm f/2 pancake lens. The 35 f/2 doesn't quite have the compact feel and style like the slower lenses or the other 49mm filter thread lenses like the 50mms and even the 85 f/2.
I've got the Olympus Zuilko 35mm F/2 and love it. Will never part from it... Will make a video from it soon. I also have the Olympus 28mm F/2.8, 50mm F/1.4 and am looking to purchase a 24mm F/2.8
TONYLOUISVISION & VIDEOGRAPHY PLUS hey! Im interested to buy old lens setup and watching on zeiss/olympus primes. What can you say about comparing this two and how oly om works compared to modern lenses?
Great video (as always.) In terms of Zuiko OM wide angle lenses, I have a 21mm 1:3.5, a 24mm 1:2.8, and a 35mm 1:2.8. I only use them for street, and photojournalism, so I only really shoot closing it as much as I can. I`ve always found ridiculous the prices an f/2 version will go to, and that extra f7stop I might need it once, twice every 5 years so no, thanks. Usually, I always shoot them at waist level, hyper focal. Love them.
Thanks Matteo, I believe you have the right idea here. I would have love to have shown the 21mm f3.5. Like the 35mm f2.0 the 21mm f3.5 has its detractors (see Alistair King's comment below) and I've not found one at the 'right' price. As for the 35mm f2.0, I did find that at the right price and I moved the 35mm f2.8 on. Although I personally like the f2.0 I really didn't gain much by swapping from the f2.8 (and now I have a single 55mm filter mount in my 24, 28, 35, 50, 85mm everyday camera bag).
I have my 24mm f2.8 always mounted on one of my cameras, be it full frame or aps-c, where it works like a 35mm lens on full frame ... the only problem is that neither my 28mm f2.8 nor my 35mm f2.8 see a lot of use since I got the 24mm :D For anything below 24mm the Zuiko lenses are out of my price range as well but the 17mm f3.5 Tokina RMC II for Olympus OM is very affordable and should be working fine on film ...
After wathing this video, I would like to buy another OM lens, for example, 24mm. Recently resumed photo with OM-1. It is most simple camera and my favorite one.
Compared to the 24mm f2.8, the 21mm f3.5 is pretty meh imo. Having bought both, I wouldn't be upset to just have the 24. I'll probably flick my 21 off when I buy the loxia 21.
I am currently using a 21 mm f 3.5 that I bought 30+ years ago on a micro 4/3 Pen F with a tilt/shift adapter and I am quite impressed with the results. One small disadvantage that I discovered was that, when used at maximum shift, interference with the adapter bent one of the light baffles that protrudes beyond the lens mount. Since it didn't affect the pictures I will leave it as is. I wish that I had an 18 mm but even used they are beyond my price range. I have yet to try the adapter with the other normal to wide angle lenses.
Thanks for adding to the conversation machintelligence. The tilt/shift adapter sounds like a lot of fun. I know what you mean about the 18mm price. I have just returned from Hong Kong where I saw a 21mm f2.0 for a similar price to an 18mm. It's still there if course.
I use my 35 mm f 2 on my Olympus Om 2Sp its wonderful optic sharp as rasorblade on eges too pleas dont use it on a digital it dont give the optick the right class as it is ..
Although I am not a native Japanese speaker I disagree. I have been pronouncing it this way for almost forty years and have never been corrected before. It probably just sounds wrong in my Aussie accent. Have a listen to Jim and see what you think: ruclips.net/video/YEACN0VNLBI/видео.html
It’s not Zeeko. In Japanese it’s pronounced as three separate syllables, which luckily all exist in English. First: “Zoo” (where you can see animals) Second:The letter “E” Last: Co (as in Co-operation) So, “zoo” “e” “co”

Which is sharper at 2.8? The 35mm 2.0 or 35mm 2.8?
Another great video Tony - I only have the 28mm f2.8 so I found this quite informative to know a little more about these others
It's a fantastic lens. Never let it go
I've got a 35mm f2.8 MC coming to me this week. I'm really looking forward to using it on my OM2n.
How did you like it? I've only seen the earlier versions, wondering if the later one is worth keeping an eye out for?
@@freddyromo7954 It's a gorgeous lens. Easily one of my favorites.
Awesome. That 24mm will probably work for me. I'm sure now that I'm thinking about it, I'll come across one soon in a shop or something.

The Olympus 35mm F/2 goes from £200 to £298. I paid £200 for mine last year
I also have a Olympus Zuiko 24mm F/2, 180mm F/2.8, 100mm F/2.8, 135mmF/3.5 & 200mm F/4
I use an XPRO2 .. with the 50mm F1.4 ... works well for portraits
I have a guy offering to trade me a Zuiko 24 f 2.0 for a lens I never use.. Any thoughts on that lens? I most likely would use it on a MFT BMPCC4k
Does the Olympus f3.5/28mm , is the aperture blades suppose to move ?
You can see if they blades are stuck by pressing down the depth of field preview and changing aperture

I know what you mean. The 24mm and 35mm go with me all the time, but the 28mm stays on the shelf looking sad and unloved.
To prevent my 28mm from getting too sad, I mounted it to an OM1n that I converted into a desk lamp^^
Classic! You have an f2.8 to f22 dimmer switch too.
Just purchased a Olympus Zuiko 35-70mm F/3.6 and 200mmF/4
Is that zuiko quite good? Cuz im buying the same lens

Thanks for the comment Alistair King. I've been thinking about the 21mm f3.5 (I can't afford the 2.0). Maybe I'll rethink that now.

no examples??
Go to my Flickr page referenced in the end credits. You'll find samples there.

Pronounced 'Zeeko'
Although I am not a native Japanese speaker I disagree. I have been pronouncing it this way for almost forty years and have never been corrected before. It probably just sounds wrong in my Aussie accent. Have a listen to Jim and see what you think: ruclips.net/video/YEACN0VNLBI/видео.html
Des Kodur Is the Minolta MD Rokkor-X lenses pronounced, “Rocker” or “Row-Core”? It’s “Row-Core”.
It’s not Zeeko.
In Japanese it’s pronounced as three separate syllables, which luckily all exist in English.
First: “Zoo” (where you can see animals)
Second:The letter “E”
Last: Co (as in Co-operation)
So, “zoo” “e” “co”
