Also as a Vancouverite my jaw literally dropped when the first house came on screen for the price of a crummy apartment.

Same here, and even though I own 2 houses, both paid off, the property taxes are insane, and the winters just pound the piss out of your wallet in maintenance and upkeep. The only reason I have 2 is so I can give one to my daughter when she is 18, because I know for a fact she and others her age will never be able to buy a house here. Hell, even some friends I have in their 30's and 40's might as well hang up the skates and give up on the idea of owning a home, because it just can't happen here anymore. It sux ass.
try to buy a house in NYC, Seattle, Paris, London, Tokyo, HKg, Dubai, .... house prices have gone crazy all around. this is not a Cdn problem. And in Canada, Toronto and Vancouver are not representative of the country
From South Africa too. My Millionaire younger brother has a spacious mansion in one of the expensive suburbs in Gauteng. Probably costs an equivalent of $1 million (about R15.5 million) or so.
Interesting. Some very nice properties, but I'll stay where I am in Canada. Even though residents of Toronto may think there is nothing beyond the city limits, Canada is big country. There is even more than one city. Many areas here are still quite affordable, and you don't have to spend a million.
Are you some sortve advertisement for Canada? Canada’s basic. It’s not extremely expensive but it definitely isn’t cheap either. Idk why you felt the need to fucking give and ad about Canada, like no one asked.
I'd also be curious if the areas the buildings are would be subject to flooding, earthquakes, hurricanes, tidal surges, forest fires etc. You would have to dig deep and big for the insurance on some of these places.
I used to live on the street where that house was sold in Toronto. It’s the smallest house in the city and didn’t sell for asking. It’s been redeveloped and looks really nice. In fact, most people aren’t moving. They simply refinance and put the money back into their properties. Many old properties are being updated and look very modern. It’s very smart because the areas value continues to rise. No different than stocks.
Nevis made the list! I'm shocked! My mom's born and raised there. And my dad was from the brother island St. Kitts. They're really beautiful places. I freaking love going.

Just buying my first house here in Auckland New Zealand, and don't expect to live near the city center for $1 million unless you like 1or 2 bedroom apartments. Problem is as over inflated as the housing market is, it would wreak our economy if we suddenly fixed the housing supply too. So much finance is tied up in the real estate market and so much borrowing is leveraged off of the value of housing that if it suddenly lost value it would take down so many businesses with it. Say my $630K house is only worth $600K next year, the bank will be on me to cover the difference and somehow come up with $30K. People who started businesses by borrowing against their house will suddenly have the rug yanked out from under them.
My house is 235000 usd in South Mumbai India and it is just a single room which is smaller than 200sq feet. And BTW we live with 4 people in this house
With the California ones... yeah, if you buy in the Bay Area or Southern California your money isn't going to go very far. But if you buy in the counties that aren't super populated like the Sierra Nevada Foothills portion of the state where it's remarkably cheaper then your money will stretch a lot farther. The average median house price where I live in California is around $400,000. Are there cheaper houses here? Yes. Are there more expensive houses here? Yes. I bought my own house in 2008 after the market crashed and now it's worth almost 3x what I paid for it and my morgage payment is a remarkably low $743 a month. Rent here for a 3 bedroom 2 bath house is around $2000 for reference so my morgage is super cheap by comparison. Especially since minimum wage in California $14 an hour which is really high compared to most other states but since California is known to be expensive to live in you can't work that and rent a $2000 house (and I only work part time even if I make $2 over minimum wage). My sister and I were the smart ones who bought our houses in our 20's so that now we're in our 30's we pay way less in morgage payments then we would be for rent. It's the only way my sister would have been able to have the 3 kids that she has lol. My brother on the other hand didn't think things through and he and his wife and their three kids live with our dad because he simply can't afford rent prices and our dad bought his house a few years back.
In Dubai, the apartment is more expensive because you are in a very luxurious area and the design is more modern than others, similar to the burj Khalifa it’s super expensive and way more than most people can afford ( around 3 million )
New Zealand house prices start at a million in the cities and farms are more, so small towns are the only option for under this. We have a current housing crisis with to many foreigners buying houses and land. Queenstown for example is full of empty mansions owned by silicon valley elite as there bolt holds. This has caused all the locals who run the town and tourist attractions to not be able to afford the few rentals avalible and have to live miles away or some even being homelesd yet still fully employed. The government has changed some things so overseas people cant do this anymore, however we still have a large homeless population and new immigrants still pouring in. Its such a shame to see my country come to this.
Yep this sounds like Vancouver, first they came and laundered money which made prices skyrocket, then some others came and ruined all the nice neighbourhoods with massive disgustingly ugly houses. Oh, and they brought their crime and bad driving too.
this is $1m US, so nearly $2m NZ, you can buy a really nice house for that. And not all cities are the same. $1m NZ in Tauranga buys you something decent, and Hamilton. I'm in Chch and my $1m Nz is pretty nice in comparison to a lot of these, and a house in a south christchurch suburb can be had for $700,000 for not a bad house, just not the best suburb. Its all relative really, but overall yes, considering income, too high. 2 years ago a 5ha property with pool, aged, but decent house was $1.3m NZ just outside of Chch. Nelson, $$$$, great variability in NZ.
My family lives in Hong Kong and here in the us a house is like a mansion in Hong Kong. Getting a house or even a room in Hong Kong is expensive because there is very little space.
I'm from Brooklyn born and raised...... But I definitely chuckled at the picture of the backyard. 🤣 However I was lucky enough to live in 2 different apartments that actually had a yard but I've definitely had a concrete backyard before.
st lucia. 1M USD is enough for about 3-6 houses depending on how big you build it and the materials used. If you really wanna live a minimalist life. you can build a wooden home for under 5K USD, roughly 10K XCD or something more modern ranging from 30K XCD - 500K, 12KUSD- 220K USD.
On this list, my favorite style is the one near Cali, Columbia. But it would be too big for me. I only have my mom and several cats anyway. My own current tiny and modest home has less than 1000 m² in the suburban area in Sumatra, Indonesia, and the price is only less than $100K. It's peaceful but lack of the breathtakingly beautiful scenery (unless you love the view of the grand Chinese graveyard next door like me, LoL). If I have $1M, I will buy a bigger fertile land in a beautiful, serene, secluded place by a lake or river and build another tiny and modest yet fully secure home there. ❤ I believe it would only take about $300-500K here. I'll invest the rest of my money or just keep them safe in the bank... 😁 Dream on...
18:30. We looked at that house when we got married in 2017. It was cheaper then. However, it is misleading. It is a duplex. The 2200 square feet is for one side of the duplex. So it’s double the square footage and double the price. Gorgeous house. We decided to move 3 miles outside of downtown in Indian Village. You should see what 1 mil would do there.
As a Western Canadian, I was slightly offended that only Toronto was showcased. There are many places that deserve being highlighted, such as British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba. Each Canadian province has unique characteristics and vast opportunities. Don't get me wrong, I love Ontario but it is not the only place that deserves mentioning. When you showed the US, multiple states were shown. It should have been the same for Canada. I hope that your depictions of the other countries was more inclusive. Thank you for allowing me to state my opinion.
Fun fact: if u travel out to other Emirates in the UAE and on the outskirts of those Emirates u can find some HUGE villas for much less than 1 million dollars and I mean it
Home is where your ❤ is! Doesn't matter where exactly. At the end of the day your crib is where you reset, destress, and relax. A place where you feel happy, content, safe, secured and comfortable!
I own two $1M+ homes in Calgary AB Canada, free and clear, and believe me, they are nothing to brag about, just old humble houses, and my property taxes are more than most people pay in rent. When I was a kid I thought "being a millionaire" was something amazing. Now I realize all it means is owning mediocre property that you still owe money on each year, and that amount keeps going up. It sucks ass. And this is in a place where it snows 8 months of the year, so it is not like a dang tropical paradise or anything. :/
no reason for concern. you should only be concerned about things that have the chance of going wrong. not being able to afford a house is a guarantee rather than a possibility so... no need for concern, just accept your fate like the rest of us!
To be fair, compare houses in the city center or simply country houses. How do you compare the incomparable rural and urban areas? For Toronto, if you go to rural area far from Toronto city, you can buy much better house that you showed in other contries.
FYI: Hong Kong is very humid and warm. Food not in cold storage will go bad quick. Bread and even chips will mold. That size fridge and the space for it might justify the price. (Not really, but the fridge thing is true.)
Very cool video - thank you for the effort you put in! ❤ Just a remark re South Africa... Yes, you could buy luxury accommodation here with $1 million, including underfloor heating... Just one problem: you'd need an alternative or backup source of electricity, as we currently have load shedding (no electricity from Eskom) for as much as 10.5 hours per day (per 24h). Most households who can afford it, are installing solar power systems to "bridge the gap". Still... It remains one of the most beautiful countries in the world and I wouldn't consider leaving 👌🤗🇿🇦
I live in toronto canada and the btoronto houses arent much but a 1 story house and get this, they cost average 1.1 million bucks and the 2 story houses triple that price and a 2 story house twice as big as the average 2 story in toronto with a pool costs Around 30 million bucks

I clicked on this because i wanted to know why you picked a run down looking shack for a home in Canada to be worth a million dollars because as a Canadian there is no homes that looks like that for a million that little shack you used in your image is more like 10 grand at most.
Right, who under 60 years has a million dollars anyway? The working class is just getting poorer and the wealthy are just stealing all the land!!!! Time for something to change!!!
Wow property in a lot of countries seems so expensive. In my country (Malawi) you can buy a luxurious mansion for less than $200k and you'd have a nice pocket of change, which is the majority of the $1m😹
I can't believe how many beautiful countries my parents brought me to when I was still in school. I _REALLY_ didn't appreciate all of the places and things that I got to see. But Algarve, Portugal, with its blue water and cafes by the beach, was most memorable. (Probably also because It was topless beaches and I was going through puberty!!!)

I’m Canadian and the houses have gone sky high. I feel sorry for younger people who are starting life. It’s really hard on them, if they want a house.
You barely even get houses in hk, and they’re super expensive, more than a million
Loving your content from South Africa

From South Africa too. My Millionaire younger brother has a spacious mansion in one of the expensive suburbs in Gauteng. Probably costs an equivalent of $1 million (about R15.5 million) or so.
Interesting. Some very nice properties, but I'll stay where I am in Canada. Even though residents of Toronto may think there is nothing beyond the city limits, Canada is big country. There is even more than one city. Many areas here are still quite affordable, and you don't have to spend a million.
Yep
Thank you for this I was pissed when I saw Canada's house
As a Canadian I wish more of Canada was showing in international media besides Toronto & Vancouver

He does not tell you what the property taxes and association fees would be. The $1M you pay is just the beginning of being fleeced.
If there's a clubhouse there must be HOA fees.
You just have to put a pun on everything, don't you? You're too funny

I mean I personally would have looked into a more rural area they seem to be much cheaper especially undeveloped land
Live in Sydney, not too far from the Opera House and yep, price of property here is abhorrently high.
In my country(🇳🇬) you could buy a village with all the houses furnished beautifully for $1 Million so I guess I can win this
The one in South Africa/ Paarl will do nicely 👌 thank you
New Zealand house prices start at a million in the cities and farms are more, so small towns are the only option for under this.
Still happens.. person from Singapore bought our house (Queenstown) sight unseen two months ago.
I know right I live at Te Atatu (Auckland) and the prices are sky high.
Fun thing, a 12 acre island off the coast of Canada is $79,000. And another one, roughly same size, off the coast of Panama, $80,000.
I'm from Brooklyn born and raised...... But I definitely chuckled at the picture of the backyard. 🤣 However I was lucky enough to live in 2 different apartments that actually had a yard but I've definitely had a concrete backyard before.
can you do one on $500,000 or $300,000 or $100,000…something most people can more likely afford?

I live in Hong Kong! Food, clothes, and other necessities are cheap except for housings….

Self sustained, you must be very flexible, try yoga.
as a 21 year old torontoian i am very concerned about ever being able to afford a home 🥲
no reason for concern. you should only be concerned about things that have the chance of going wrong. not being able to afford a house is a guarantee rather than a possibility so... no need for concern, just accept your fate like the rest of us!

Just a remark re South Africa...
