After I got my 1st Daschund, I fell in love with the breed. Now, 30yrs and 3 daschunds later; I'm still raising them. I never thought I'd ever meet anyone or, anything as stubborn as I am; boy was I wrong. Lol. They can be stubborn but, they are also very loyal and; they love with a fierceness. When you get a daschund, it's like adding another member to your family rather than; just getting another dog. In my opinion, you can never go wrong when you chose to get a Daschund.

I have a smooth hair standard black & tan. Loud, strong, food-oriented. Loves to burrow. My first doxie. He is a sweet fellow 4 yr now that just loves people and other dogs. Great temperament. One thing I never hear mentioned is how food-oriented they are. My doxie will eat (and when a puppy, chew) anything. So just like with a human baby, I always had to be careful to make sure things didn't fall to the floor and put the little waste-paper basket out of reach. We live in a wooded area, and there have been times going for walks that he'll snatch up a dead mouse that an owl dropped, a road kill wood frog etc. They are very possessive of food...will lock their strong jaws and it's a fight to get food out of their mouths. My dog is also in the habit of chewing his bed and blanket and used to swallow pieces of blanket (the soft, fleece types. Fortunately everything always came out the other end, but due to their elongated digestive systems, it's easier to get blockages which can be fatal. I was also surprised as a first time doxie parent how powerful and strong they are. Very muscular on the front end. So even though small, you need to work on walking on a leash or they'll pull you off your feet as easily as a larger breed. I didn't realize how much the natural inclination to burrow. He definitely wants to be in the bed under the covers. Once I got him started sleeping next to the bed on a large pillow, he still insists on being covered with a blankie. I think having short hair, he may be cold, too. Another thing I never heard in videos is that some doxies don't like water---don't like getting wet. Weird for a hunting breed. If I took him out to potty as a puppy, he stayed on the porch and didn't want to go out. He still doesn't like to get a bath. My dog is very engaging and loves to play games. He is the one who taught me to play keep away! He's a very fun and funny little guy.

My nana has a dachshund she got him 2012 he’s called Bradley Wiggins because my nana is a big fan of the cyclist she’s also planing to get another one a little girl and she wants to call her Corbin because she really likes Jeremy Corbin ^^ Bradley himself is the funniest dog I know, he barks at the tv, he licks everything, whenever I do a cat call he goes crazy and runs to the door, he always tries to start on bigger dogs because I think that he thinks he’s the biggest dog in the world ^^ he’s actually a miniature, Black and Tan short hair so he’s really small ^^
Dachshunds are bred to have a very strong hunting instinct. They will track and follow prey for a long time and distance if they get the chance, for days if possible. They are also great escape artists and will take any chance to bolt off if they find a hole in a fence or a gap in a doorway. When tracking, they will typically not respond if called back. They run a great risk of being hit by a car because of the small size combined with utter fearlessness. This can be real problem and should not be overlooked for anyone looking to buy a dachshund. Excercise should help keep them less escape-willing, but when they do get a good scent, they can follow it to the moon.

Hi everyone, I'm living in a 95sq meter house. I'm living right in the city center, would that be a big issue? Can they survive indoors provided that they are taken for walks outside 2 a day each approximately 1h long?
I grew up with them. No offense but why aren't you supporting his rear end? Always support the rear. Use a harness whenever possible to lessen neck damage. I have raced my Doxie on the national level. Blessings
My 3 year old boy Nev ,will not let me clear his teeth he will try to bit you as well ,his breath is bad and green patches on his teeth Help and tips will be much appreciated.
I own a Dachshund and she isn't sausage-shaped at all. Fact is, this breed underwent changes that aren't all in its best interest, speaking of health problems like IVDD.
Laurentius DarkMoon then yours isnt a dachshund or at least a full blood dachshund, because even back in Germany they were sausage like, because they had to be able to fit in to badger holes.
I just got a Dachshund from somebody I work with. I have 3 cats, and have gad the dog and the cats seperated since I got the dog. How do I get the dog to not chase and growl at the cats? Also I had a maintenance man at my house the other day and my dog bit the guy on the leg. I'm not sure he was being protective of me or what. This is my first Dachshund and my first indoor dog. I'm feeling very overwhelmed with him and wonder if I should get rid of him.....help!!
I have a cat and a doxie. The cat chasing will probably last quite awhile until they get each other sorted out. Especially if your dog is a male and it sounds like he is since he bit the maintenance man. I would think it would be helpful to walk this dog and meet people. Keep him on a short leash and walk 1 - 2 miles a day. Burn off some of his energy and then try to work with him with basic commands to teach him to listen to you.
I didn't know anything about this breed! I got one when I was dating my husband. It was his dream dog but I had him inside my apartment as a pup since he couldn't have it at the time at his house. He destroyed everything 😅🤣 even a metal lighter! He also tried to bite my cats which where curious of what he was. I have 2 bunnies, both trained and do tricks and never did I get to atleast potty train Slinky (yes that's his name). After marriage and living together with my husband I always wondered about the breed and came to RUclips and that's where I found out why my dog was like he is. I love him to death! He gets lots and lots of chew toys and I replace them alot. Also I let him dig and follow natural instincts. He's no longer inside without supervision lol. I don't regret getting this type of dog. They're wonderful and unpredictable which is what I love!
How about: 1. Whine for no reason 2. Constantly begging for food. 3. Tries to do the opposite of what you ask for no apparent reason. 4. Practice digging...on your armpit, your head, anything to paw away at you. 5. Won't come at all when you call. 6. If you do manage to get them to come and they have to walk through a beam of warm sunlight, they aren't coming. They will stop, sit down and stop responding and eventually sleep in the sunlight. 7. Will destroy that damn squeaky toy to get the squeaky thing out of it then chew it to death. Lots of time ,growling at it while doing so. 8. Flip the dog on it's back and hold them in the crook of your arm to get them to go to sleep within 2 minutes. 9. Ringing the doorbell while the dog is sleeping warm and comfortable in your arm means barking from that position in hopes you might carry the dog to the door so it can continue barking from the comfort of you holding it. 10. Opening the front door, looking scared and running away from the front door will get the dog to sprints past you on the way to safety under the bed. If you're bigger than the dog and it scared you, better not take any chances. Everyone for themselves.
Tushar S if you socialize your Dachshund at a young age, just like a Labrador needs, you will have a friendly Doxie. If you keep it only to yourself, you will have a dog afraid of the outside world. Dachshunds need to be constantly socializing from four months (three months even in my humble knowledge) til their end. Dog parks, walks and puppy play groups are the key, just like a Labrador Retriever. ☺️
The way you carry your dachshund can also destroy their backs. Support the lower back by putting an arm under their hips. Imagine how it would feel if someone held you by the chest and let your lower half just dangle. My dachshunds were also easy to train. I thought my long-haired would be reserved but she's anything but that. lol She was more aggressive than my male. My male never had issues with marking indoors unless something got into the house. Once it was removed, (he would help hunt for it lol), he no longer kept that behavior. They are very intelligent as well, so you must be respectful or they'll disrespect you. And idk why the way she's pronouncing Dachshund as Dash-hound is killing me.
After owning two of these little devils, they're the, "Clown Princes " of the dog world. their also very sneaky. They will do whatever it takes to get what they want.
Sicarri Zelot ! That's exactly what my friend who works with shelters told me until I found specific Facebook pages that specialize in rehoming them. Look for them and you'll find them in need of a loving home.
Can ANYONE tell me why my Dachshund doesn’t have stubby short legs and is smooth haired, she is ALWAYS way bigger than any other Dachshund I’ve seen. Yet she looks EXACTLY like one. It’s weird my family doesn’t understand it. She has more of a Labrador type of face but smaller of coarse. She is long like wiener dogs but not THAT long and short compared to ones that are always in videos and books. Doesn’t make sense.
My dachshund is the biggest ive seen. I dont have to bend down to pet him as he has long legs and is tall when standing on his back feet. He measures from tail tip to nose tip a little over 3.5 feet. I have Never seen a dachshund his size. And ive seen a lot of dachshunds.
We have a little guy that is 1/2 dachshund, 1/2 lab and looks like a miniature lab. He has the dachshund personality and keeps us laughing all the time. Sounds like you may have a little lab mixed in.

The examples given in the ruclips.net/user/postUgkxECnmSvBSv_NGWx4_ChD73pF3NYZwI2F3 are helpful and some of the techniques suggested very useful. One such technique/tool suggested was the lure stick to encourage a small dog to keep up with the heel command. The lure stick is great also for another dogs focus and sprinting at anything that catches her eye. Always support the rear. Use a harness whenever possible to lessen neck damage. I have raced my Doxie on the national level.
Blessings
Good video. Cant believe all the petty wee folk commenting on your pronunciation. Well done you.
What you need to know about Dachshunds: They bark....A lot.....at EVERYTHING.
Yep!!!!
My 3 year old boy Nev ,will not let me clear his teeth he will try to bit you as well ,his breath is bad and green patches on his teeth Help and tips will be much appreciated.
Positive associations but easier said than done.
Não consigo ver, sabendo q a minha salsicbinha Pituquinha, tava assim, antes de morrer...me dói!!!

I love that you say in uk DASH-Hound
Very important monitor bit D level.Do trust kibbles to be adequate on vit D
2:21 miniature or standard?
"The dash hound" .. ugh the pronunciation goes straight through the eardrum.
Like a nail!
“Dock-sun”
@jason crigger Guy's an idiot! 😂
You must not of bought your dog from a reputable breeder. You must have bought your dog from a back yard breeder.
starlite556 was 98
I have a dachshund
I adore my doxies and chichi’s.
My dash puppy had skin problem...doctors are requesting us not it give curd rice ..any solutions ??
Try Hills Science Diet for sensitive skin.
They are also called Teckles
Omg whenever I go to work and come back, my room is a mess. I have a camera to watch her and she howls all day
Are you working on improving that?
Thank You!!!!
Cute 😍
I prefer to pronounce it like that, not a problem
Dachshund is German for "Little Pain in the Ass"! Believe that, we have 5...good dogs in general. They can be challenging for sure!
How about:
1. Whine for no reason
Everyone for themselves.
the pronunciation is a little off but great video!
I love Dakels
Good video, these are the best dogs ever! But it’s pronounced Dax hund x
Jen Thorpe nope its pronounced Dock Hoond.
I thought it was Doxen
thanks but dont know how to actaully train him (my puppy) !
I am confused between lab and daschund ...I want more friendly dog ! If u guys could help me
Tushar S if you socialize your Dachshund at a young age, just like a Labrador needs, you will have a friendly Doxie. If you keep it only to yourself, you will have a dog afraid of the outside world. Dachshunds need to be constantly socializing from four months (three months even in my humble knowledge) til their end. Dog parks, walks and puppy play groups are the key, just like a Labrador Retriever. ☺️
They are pronunced "dax" "hund" English, or "dox" "hund" American English, Its German for "badger dog" which is what they were bred to hunt.
Bred for hunting Badgers actually - it means badger hound in German
I have a 23 year old and 2 1 year olds
Jay Low Wow, my neighbor had a 17 year old and I thought that was old
Can this breed make a good Service Dog?
D Mc mine is. But it takes a lot of training and a lot of patients to train them. So its not suggested.
sorry its Dachshund not Dashhound if am not mistaking Dashound is a totally different breed dog
A lot of people just pronounce it that way....calm down
The way you carry your dachshund can also destroy their backs.
She’s not from Murica
After owning two of these little devils, they're the, "Clown Princes " of the dog world. their also very sneaky. They will do whatever it takes to get what they want.
Everything she said here is my Doris to a tee
You never see one at an animal shelter.
Mary Hernandez not true, I rescued mine. You just have to know where to look.
Haha I got one at the pound it was a Dachshund and cattle dog
Sicarri Zelot ! That's exactly what my friend who works with shelters told me until I found specific Facebook pages that specialize in rehoming them. Look for them and you'll find them in need of a loving home.
Sicarri Zelot ! They are amazing. I rescued a wire haired one and he's just the sweetest and funniest little guy.
Lizzy Hale this is exactly my dog!! I don’t understand either lol
It's possible yours has a slight genetic mutation or a small percentage of another breed in its blood.
How do I get him to give me paw
