    This is my theory as to: a) who built and inhabited Stone Tower Temple, b) their connection to Majora and the Great War of Ikana, and c) who specifically this people might have been. As always, I do not claim this theory to be objective reality - it is simply a theory I came up with :) Thanks for watching and drop a comment letting me know who you think built Stone Tower Temple!

    I’m currently doing research for a possible theory video or fanfic about the sisters’ link to Stone Tower Temple, and this came up in my recommend videos. You made some excellent points. Some I didn’t catch. I have one other smoking gun/missing link (no pun intended) piece of evidence that connects them. You didn’t mention it, but someone else in the comments might. If I do make a video about it, I will let you know. Thanks for a great video!

    This theory is an interesting mix of good points I've never considered and flawed logic.
    First off, the war of Ikana is pretty directly explained. The Ikana Kingdom warred against the Garo. That is stated in the game and is why Garo are fought several times throughout the area, including inside the Stone Tower. Also, the Gerudo are seen in this game and they're pirates, not desert dwellers.
    Also, it is stated that Skull Kid wearing Majora's Mask is the one that cursed Ikana Canyon, though this part is confusing as there seems to be 3 different curses in here but they never really clarify. The curse on Sharp of the Composer Brothers was set by Skull Kid. Sharp also mentions that the dead should not linger there and blames "the masked one" for his tricks, but Dampé's dialog and Pamela's father suggest the dead have always roamed there, while Sakon says the dead have been rising lately. And Igos mentions forgetting feelings of forgiving failure as "vanishing when the temple doors opened", among other things, so its a bit confusing.
    As for Koume and Kotake, while the dialog does seem like it could imply that, Kotake just gives you a red potion, which restores health. Koume even says "I got hit from behind. That pesky Skull Kid! Did he think and old hag wouldn't recognize him if he hid his face?", suggesting no cares about the mask itself. Koume got hit and injured, Kotake was surprised the Skull Kid could do anything, gave you a red potion when you said how bad it was, and that healed Koume.
    Also, while Stone Tower Temple does share some imagery with Gerudo stuff, a lot of the specifics you pointed out are stretches, such as the gemstone (Ganondorf's is green with pillars while the "same one" you point out in the temple is red with spikes. Some similarities, but not enough to mean anything). Keep in mind Termina is a parallel world, of course there will be similarities between things that are unrelated.
    Overall, an interesting theory, but it seems you overlooked some stuff.

      I really do appreciate your constructive input, especially as detailed as it is! I'm quite certain it's never explicitly stated that the Garo fought in the Great War of Ikana. Perhaps it can be inferred, but at that point it's still an educated guess at best. My mention of desert-dwelling Gerudo was aimed toward the predecessors of the Gerudo pirates. I made the case that if the main desert landmark in OoT was built by desert-dwelling Gerudo predecessors, then perhaps the main desert landmark in MM was also built by a similar group of predecessors. It's clear that Skull Kid had something to do with the downfall of Ikana, as with every other region in Termina. As for curses, though, the conclusion I drew from Igos du Ikana's statement was that the Ikanans being undead was the direct result of the opening of the Stone Tower Temple. As you said, it's confusing, and still only leads to an educated guess at best. Sharp's statement (if we are to believe Skull Kid is the "masked one" he mentions) only confirms that the dead lingering was part of the desolation brought by Skull Kid, not their being risen. Again, with the Koume and Kotake dialog, we seem to be drawing different conclusions. Kotake said "If it's *just* the Skull Kid, then what harm could he possibly do?", and then she acts surprised. To me, this implies that she realized it wasn't *just* Skull Kid, but that he was also aided by Majora's Mask. As for Koume, if your case is that her understating the mask Skull Kid was wearing proved she didn't care about the mask, then you're going off of the same type and amount of context l am. We're just at separate ends with separate examples. I agree with the red potion not really being a deal breaker to the theory, that was just a little thought I threw in there. When it comes to imagery, I realize there are bound to be unrelated parallels. But when there are several symbols fitting within the boundaries of my theory that could be construed as similar, if not the same, that's a better lead than educated guesses or nitpicking of situational contexts in the game's dialogue. Just my thoughts on that. My apologies if any of this comes off as rude, it can be hard to convey emotion properly through text. I really do spend a lot of time on my theories and try to reach logical (or at least semi-logical) conclusions. Thanks for watching!

      @@Retroatron personally i think the Gerudo in Majora's Mask are the 'new Gerudo' of Ocarina; as in this timeline Ganondorf is gone, the king of Hyrule might gave the Gerudo new places to live (even though Termina is a parallel world) and they might have set in a new .... adventure ? Who knows, LoZ are full of theories and as a theorist myself i must admit, this is well made yet it puts more holes between Majora's Mask and Ocarina of Time but makes total sense on Majora's Mask side. Termina is a parallel world much like the bathhouse in Spirited Away is. Termina is the spirit world outside of normal time and space of Hyrule. There are both living spirits and dead spirits. This is why you see the likes of Kotake and Koume who were shown becoming spirits in OoT.

      I really think that the developers imagined a dilation of time taking place between the Skull Kid's arrival and Link's. Skull Kid embedded himself into, or was always a part of, the history of Ikana. Then he waited for Link to show up.

    This does leave out one thing though; the Garo. The Garo are found throughout the Ikana region and even in the temple. They’re enemy spies in Ikana’s land. Either they’d have to be related to the Gerudo witch tribe or there would have to be three separate factions at war. Which doesn’t disprove this theory at all, it was just something I kept waiting for you to acknowledge that never came up

      Ah, you're right! I should've brought them up, although their existence seems to have little to do with Stone Tower Temple. @@Retroatron There is a theory that the Stone Tower serves as a portal (I forgot who came up with this theory), but essentially, the entrance to the Twinmold boss fight is through a portal that leads to a vast desert.
      On the Garo leader mini-boss fight, you can see him coming from the whole in the ceiling which is the same portal when upside down.
      The idea is that the garo are the desert dwelling race that fought Ikana, and they came throught this portal.

    • @Levacque
      @Levacque 2 года назад +3

      I also thought they might be a third party after seeing this. They're definitely depicted as spies and/or ninjas, so maybe they represented a faction that was trying to figure out what the hell was going on - possibly the magics being used were causing collateral damage and drew the Garo's attention, and now they are caught inside the same curse of undeath as the Ikanans.

    I think the Garo are our best indication of the tribe that fought against the kingdom of Ikana, they're the only characters confirmed in-game to be enemies to Ikana.
    If you speak with Pamela's father about them, he tells you that they were sent from a neighboring tribe to spy on the kingdom Ikana, and that they can be seen frequently near Romani Ranch. You know who else is near Romani Ranch? The Gormans. The same Gormans that wear Garo's masks when attacking the Romani carriage, and who gift you with a Garo's mask for beating them in a race (this third mask likely belonged to the other Gorman, the one who runs the Gorman Troupe); I believe the Gorman's are the descendants of the tribe that the Garo's are from, even the names are somewhat similar ('Garo' and 'Gorman').
    You even fight a Garo Master in Stone Tower, so if this theory is to be believed (that Stone Tower was made by Ikana's enemies), then that's a pretty clear indication that the Garo were from the enemy tribe mentioned in the game.

    There's a flaw in your dissection of Kotake's reaction. You really presume that Link talks about the mask. However, when you play the game you should be aware that Link only gets this reaction out of her when he finds Koume beat up and alone in the forest, unable to move and asking for medicine. That's what I personally always interpreted her reaction to be about. So I still think it's a bit of a stretch.
    Personally? I think chances are bigger it's the Sheikah tribe. They're actually called a tribe and in the shadow temple they've been known to seal evil and hide the history of Hyrule's bloody past. Next to that you have the uncanny resemblance of in the form of Midna's Fused Shadow helmet (aka the eye). When skull kid stole it from the mask salesman he was still in the lost woods.
    A lot of this relies on your correlation of the gem and in my opinion mostly unfound claim that the Gerudo came from Ikana while clearly the female pirates fulfill that role within Termina. While Ikana does have occult/creepy aesthetics. They had been dead for over a century. It was only Skull kid which brought them back to life, thinking they were in a war that had long been ended. Spikes and weird faces isn't strong evidence to go by. But I appreciate the effort.

      Thanks for the detailed comment! A number of other people have also taken issue with my proposition of what was said between Link and Kotake, and I suppose it's my fault for using a vague piece of situational context as support for my theory. When she said "If it's *just* the Skull Kid, then what harm could he possibly do?" and then acted shocked, I took that to mean she realized it wasn't *just* Skull Kid, but that he was aided by Majora's Mask. What you presume to have been exchanged between Kotake and Link would, in my mind, at least signify that Kotake realized Skull Kid wasn't acting alone, as she knows he's not powerful enough to overtake a skilled sorceress by himself. The Sheikah/Twili connection has been discussed to the point of exhaustion, so I wanted to open up another avenue of discussion I thought could be interesting. Yes, the Red Emblem is a large piece of my theory, and no more objective than the use of the Fused Shadow's eye when connecting it to Majora's Mask - both share similarities, but aren't undoubtedly the same. I never claimed that the Gerudo Pirates came from Ikana, I suggested that their ancestors, my proposed "Witch Tribe", were from Ikana. I can’t help but feel as though whomever created Majora’s mask, would’ve been considered “barbaric” and sinister enough with magic to do it. Which was what the Zonai Tribe was mentioned to be prior to their mysterious disappearance.

    The Garo were part of the ancient interlopers, possibly the ancient Twili. The boss room in Stone tower is a portal to the haunted wasteland in Hyrule near Arbiters grounds. They had created Majoras mask in the tower, and wanted to travel to Hyrule’s sacred realm to kill the goddesses but failed.?

    LoL Link could’ve just said that he found her in hurt in the woods. Wasn’t it just a red potion he was given?

    • @Retroatron
      @Retroatron  2 года назад

      You can certainly believe that! Yes, it was a red potion. I put too much stock in situational context, a relatively unreliable way of judging stimulus. In this case, I believed the stimulus to have been Majora's Mask. When Kotake said "If it's *just* the Skull Kid, then what harm could he possibly do?" and then acted shocked, I took that to mean she realized it wasn't *just* Skull Kid, but that he was aided by Majora's Mask. As you pointed out, something else could have been said (although even if Link were to have said what you proposed, that would at least prove Kotake realized that Skull Kid had help, as she knows Skull Kid wouldn't be able to cause that much harm himself). At the end of the day, a theory remains a theory - a system of *ideas* intended to explain something. Thanks for watching!

    Refer to the manga it is not cannon. It explains how the mask was made. Links ancestor made the mask after defeating the dragon and buried it deep underground so nobody could find it after he realizes the dragon possessed the mask. Then thousands of years later the happy mask sales man hears what sounds like a heart beat from some odd red roots. Digging up the Majora's mask and looking into the eyes, he was possessed to try it on but quickly got scared of it and threw it off his face. He tried to destroy it but but every time he did he failed. Skull kid attacked him on his final attempt to destroy it. Stealing and running off into the deep forest with the mask. The mask was made in Hyrule originally.

  • @Fragmentsinfractals488
    @Fragmentsinfractals488 2 года назад

    I am curious how the Happy Mask Saleman got the Mask in the first place. After all, it was "sealed away". Did that man seal it away himself, and was he part of that tribe?
    Also, I personally think the Majora's Mask was created by the Sheikah, specifically because of the Eyes. The Mask of Truth exists in Termina, as does the Len of Truth. They are sealed in the floating island on Snowpeak (magic) and in the Gold Skulletta House (a Cursed Place). In fact that curse seems to be a Sheikah creation.
    In Hyrule, the Cursed House is in Kakariko, the Shiekah village. One of the Sons who is cursed holds the Stone of Agony, another Shiekah creation.
    Also, Shiekahs are one of the only tribes that don't appear in Majora's mask despite their artifacts being everywhere.

    • @Retroatron
      @Retroatron  2 года назад

      Extremely valid question, one I wondered about myself. The fact that we see him in the same woods that connect Hyrule to Termina (when he gets ambushed by Skull Kid) could mean he was coming from Termina. And the fact that he knew where to find Skull Kid could either mean Termina was nearby, or he at least knew where Termina was located and that Skull Kid lived there. Or he heard about Termina from a random passerby, who knows. It's definitely something to think about, but I think him being in those same woods is a good clue.

    I'd say focus on Majora being linked to Ikana, AT ALL. That's your biggest feat, because even now, 17 years after the infamous HylianDan Tower of Babel theory, people still doubt Majora or any of these vague lore tellings are connected to Termina, and instead more a web of disconnected points all coalescing with some wanderers from Hyrule like Link and Skull Kid. The Koume and Kotake concept is too big a stretch.

    • @Retroatron
      @Retroatron  2 года назад

      Hey, the burden of proof lies with the theorist! The thing with Kotake's statement is that the context is situational, something that's tough to use as proof. When she said "If it's *just* the Skull Kid, then what harm could he possibly do?" and then acted shocked, I took that to mean she realized it wasn't *just* Skull Kid, but that he was accompanied by Majora's Mask. I thought I made a pretty convincing argument, but I can't convince everyone and that's alright. Thanks for watching!

    I can maybe buy the garo being a split faction of the Gerudo in Ternina hence why they voth use a dual weapon fighting style...it's [pssible the split happened before Link arrived and that's why the Gerudo are in Great Bay...buuut the rest makes me feel like you should have posted this on the first of April not the second.
    First off trying to compare the witches from Hyruke to their Terminian counterparts? aside from looks they;re nothing alike.
    ,,,it is possible they hel[ed male the towwer though if Ikana was taking over Termina and the Garo opposed them the witches could have made the stronghold and maybe put cursing wards on the door to the tower...and realized they over did it when dead people started walking around said "a'ight we're gona head out" and moved to the swamp. but i think the "twin" comparison with the boss names was a bit too April fools however I do believe they could have had something to do with ir atleast known about the mask.
