Clary Fray the only stupid question is the unasked question. Lol. We make silicone molds to copy pieces of jewelry or anything of interest so we can reproduce using polymer clay and/or resin.

If I use cornstarch method the corn starch dries out the moisture in silicone which in turn make mold more likely to split or tear when demolish resin is what i use mold for. I use soapy water because my molds lasts longer an stays more supple. Can be used over and over

APG Jamie Actually for this purpose, waxed paper is better as most modern parchment paper is made to be nonstick by having a micro thin coating of silicone sprayed on both sides in the manufacturing process. Silicone to silicone contact can have less than desirable results.
You can actually use ANY dish soap...dollar store is fine. I've made about 50 tubes worth of molds. Also, water doesn't have to be cold. Any temperature works just fine. The mold will release from any bowl you put it into without wax paper.
thank you so much and I'm happy that you have made so many molds, they sure are fun to play with . . . clay, plaster, resin, soap, candles and I'm sure most if not any other mold-able stuff xo happy new week artin

Thank you for the great information I was looking to make my own molds for things to encapsulate in nail enhancements.. now off to buy 100% silicone and dish soap!! Will be on the lookout for tiny objects to use too!! What is everyone else using these for? I saw soap, candles, and bath bombs .I assume resin things too..I'm so curious as to what all I could make now.. I loved candle making but only had one mold as they are pricey, not now!!

Hi Chriss, thanks for watching. The skeleton keys are reproductions from the craft store, sometimes (rarely) you can find actual keys at antique stores
gosh, Alex I'm sorry I have no idea! I wouldn't even know where to get food grade. I don't mix any artin stuff with cooking stuff. But If you find out please drop by & let us know xo happy artin
@@APGJamie thank you!! Btw what silicone would you say is the best or does it not matter? I went to home Depot and got some but there were so many kinds it took me forever to just guess and get one. I got the GE brand all purpose silicone 1 clear and the GE silicone 2+ white. The one for the windows and doors not the kitchen and bathroom one. I honestly don't get what the difference is so I just got those lol cuz the all purpose says moulding on the back n the kitchen ones didn't.
you want 100% silicone - I think it only comes in clear. I have seen some folks use a bit of alcohol ink to color the silicone BUT I don't know how it affects the final mold
it is flexible to point, but not to surround an object. . . maybe 3/4 of one. It's really hard to say because it would depend on if it has rounded smooth edges or sharp corners. good luck and thanks for the great question & for watching xo happy artin
Dang it 😂 ~ I’ve been doing this with the corn starch 😬 [ very very messy ] ~ this looks so much easier and cleaner =👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽 ~ will definitely be giving it a go ~ THANK YOU 👌🏾💖
You guys should try using "Proto Putty" for your molds, instead of just regular silicone... All it is is silicone 1, which you were using, a little food colouring(whatever colour suits your fancy) and corn starch.. Once mixed thoroughly it will be a very workable putty that will harden into solid rubber in 20 minutes.. So you can cast your molds a lot sooner..
hi Snow, I have not used resin in these molds, However there are comments from people who have. If you are going to try it, I suggest to try it with a mold you would be ok with loosing, in case it does not work out. Thanks for watching & have a happy artin week
SI tiene silicona extra en los extremos, no debería doler nada, pero si le molesta, le sugiero que recorte cuidadosamente. Tener cuidado de no arruinar el nuevo molde de silicona. SI entendí mal la pregunta, intente reformularla por mí. xo Muchas gracias y feliz artin google translate : How do you remove the fat that remains at the end of the silicone mold as you do it? IF you have extra silicone on the ends, it should not hurt anything however if it bothers you, I would suggest to trim it very carefully. Being cautious not to ruin the new silicone mold. IF i misunderstood the question, please try to rephrase it for me. xo Thanks so much & happy artin
Hi -- thank you for the video. I am guessing "Dawn" is a good quality detergent and that;s why people are saying to use it. We don't have that one here in Australia . But I'm guessing something like Fairy will do the job.
Dawn is a great degreaser, as I understand it is some kind of chemical reaction that causes the silicone to set up. Please let us know if the Fairy brand works and the main thing is to get the item you are molding really soapy wet. Good luck & thanks so much for watching xo happy artin week
hi there... thanks for the inspiration ☺ I'm wondering if I can use these molds with concrete or hot glue sticks instead of clay. please give me your thoughts. thanks again
hi Kristin, great questions, I'm sorry I have not tried either of those and suggest that IF you do to use a mold you would be ok with loosing if it doesn't work thanks so much for watching xo happy art'in
I made a mold using this method and when I poured resin in it, the resin didn’t fully cure after 24 hours. The resin was still tacky to the touch. Has anyone else had this problem?
thank you for watching and trying this out. I have not used these molds for resin, so I cannot really comment on that, Hopefully someone else may be able to answer. SOME ONE ? ANY ONE? HAVE help for Patty? I hope you can get this figured out, so it doesn't happen again. Thanks so much for your feed back xo happy artin
I have not tried to make a 2 part mould, but you can try . . . was jut thinking to have some cooking parchment paper to put between the 2 parts, maybe just might keep them form sticking together. Not sure about making a whole then cutting it a part somehow. I just don't know, let us know it you try and or figure out a way thanks so much for watching & for such a great question xo ps happy art'in
Hi! Wondering if you ever tried the 2 part mould, or the 3D mold cutting the side. Any success? This is exactly what I'm hoping to do for some pendants. Thanks in advance!
I have not, as I'm inclined to use flat back items. If you should try this type of mould as a 2 part, 3D one, please let us know how it worked out. Again so glad you watched & commented , have a blessed day xo happy art'in
thank you Diana, so appreciate you watching. I have added 2 more silicone mold making videos - ruclips.net/video/fjc0hbuexFA/видео.html and ruclips.net/video/D8dWb5A7_9c/видео.html IF you want to watch 'em, Thanks so much xo happy mid week artin
+Lucia McGill Thank you Lucia I appreciate that. . . if you try this you may want to use gloves, some people have very sensitive skin & I remember if I mentioned that. xo ps thanks for watching
well sort of IF you don't knead it too much, it can sit in the soapy water for for 10 minutes or so. I would do my best to have all things ready, the surface you will put the silicone on until it firmly sets, the items you want to cast. happy artin
good question Star, Just the face because I want a flat back and I'm not sure you can use this method to create a 3D mold BUT mostly I wanted a flat back thanks very much
it may depend on the age of the Type 1 silicone. I know that the ice cold water is what works best for me. You should do it the way that is best for you, warm, cold or in the middle. Have a blessed weekend & happy art'in
There are other methods adding cornstarch and color that way you do not have to use the ice cold water. Both handy nonetheless, only using silicone from the hardware store! Who knew?
I have not, BUT they should be find to use with Plaster or Paris. use all precautions normally used with plaster & be careful when unmolding you how easy plaster breaks. good luck with your project & let me know how it came out thanks for watching Happy Artin
hi Tonya, it should be safe for Soap, Always do a test with your particular mold to be sure the mold can withstand the hot liquid soap thanks so much for watching xo happy artin
Could you use this type of mold in the oven to cure polymer clay? I'm always worried that when I go to pop the clay item out of the mold it will distort. Thanks very much :)
I would not use these in the oven as I have no clue how the silicone would react to heat or the probable fumes it would release. However, you can put the mold in the refrigerator or freezer for a few minutes, that will cool the clay & make it less likely to distort.
great question, wish I knew. IF you experiment with it please come back & let me know how it went. Remember to use caution, a well ventilated area & safety glasses. thanks for watching xo & happy art'in
Hello! Yes making these diy silicone works simlar to other premade silicone molds. I've made some. If your mold doesn't set up well with dawn dish soap only, then try adding a wee bit of glycerine to the silicone 'dough'. It speeds it up & is firmer (for me anyway) They will be more 'rustic' looking but are so versatile. Spicey Pinecone does a video for making one for imbeds. Have fun!
Jenanna, I have not used mine for resin BUT others have said this type works fine with it. I would suggest a small test just to make sure it works the way you want and of course to use caution. Afterwards I'd love for you to let us know how it went. thanks so much for watching xo happy mid week artin
You're a hoot! Just subscribed. I'd been planning on trying this this weekend. Your video was perfect! Can't wait to try. Have you ever tried adding color to the silicone?
thanks so much, keep your hands & items to mold soapy & cold water (works for me) I have not colored it, not sure I'd bother {shrugs} lol xo ps happy art'in
Yep, will follow your directions to a T. Hadn't read about the cold water. Was thinking colored silicone would be easier to see details...but I guess it doesn't matter, as long as it works~!
gosh that's a great question, I'm sorry I have no clue. I know that typically pops outta the store bought silicone molds, but I really don't know if it would these. I'll go try it & get back to ya xo
hi Lena, thanks for watching. I have not used it for resin BUT I have commenters that say they can be used for it. IF you try it I suggest to err on the edge of caution - try it outdoors with a silicone mold you're ok with loosing IF it doesn't work for you. Please come back by & let us know it you tired & how it went thanks again xo happy artin
I'm sorry I don't know as I don't use casting resins If you try it please come back & let me know how it worked out xo happy art'in & have a blessed week
Once the the silicon is set it does not stick to polymer clay. However I have not tried molding a Polymer clay piece. using polymer clay in a silicon mold - You can always dust it very lightly with corn starch / or other release powder. as with any mold it can be helpful to cool (refrigerate) it before you pop out the clay.
I have not, however I believe one of the previous commenters said she did. IF you try it, use a mold you are ok losing if it does not work. That way you know if your resin will work with your silicone molds. thanks for watching & for your question xo happy artin
hi Dawn, I would Not heat them. I don't know for sure, but because this is not food safe silicone I would be afraid it would cause hazardous fums if heated. Thanks for the great question and for watching xo happy artin
thanks for watching DarkFire, and I don't really know as I don't do resin, sorry. But if you experiment please feel free to let us know xo have a great weekend art'in
I have tried this soooo many times without success I'm going to try it your way but where do you get your silicone? I've been trying to use the kind from Lowes but I've seen people saying it doesn't work.
I get mine from Dollar General, I think it is Red Devil 100% clear silicone. white tube with a bit of blue on it crossing fingers this works for you xo ps happy art'in Marrie
well thank you Sarah, it's typically as much a surprise to me as to y'all lol. Art should be fun and entertaining it makes it . . .. well it makes it more fun lol xo happy weekend artin
Yes, Zafar it does as you are molding and for a week or so after that. If you are sensitive to odors definitely use in well ventilated area and wear a mask. thanks for watchin happy artin
Hi Courtney, the answer is no, thanks for the great question. Seriously I mean NO, silicone will stick to silicone and then you have a real mess. lol and nobody has time for that. xo thanks for watching & happy art'in
I have been experimenting with silicone mixed with corn starch. I've tried to make large molds using multiple batches. Whenever I add another batch to an already hardened batch the bond is weak. I also accidentally got Vaseline on a small area between batches and they came apart with ease later on. It's worth a try.
at first I couldn't find this tutorial again and so I watched a different one that was absolutely terrible! The other person that did the video of the terrible tutorial has 30 thousand subscribers how is this video so perfect and yet there's only 1000 subscribers to your Channel? Thank you so much for posting this! I am making a unique mold for my bath bomb business! @beneath.the.roses @fizzylizzybathbombs

This helped me alot! I wanted to make a mold for fursuit claws and this helped me so much thank you!
Thank you I'm so glad. Be sure to use something you mind "loosing" to test this for how it works for you.

Where did u get the old keys and such???
Hi Chriss, thanks for watching. The skeleton keys are reproductions from the craft store, sometimes (rarely) you can find actual keys at antique stores
if I made a mold using high temp food grade silicone, could it be used for baking?
gosh, Alex I'm sorry I have no idea! I wouldn't even know where to get food grade. I don't mix any artin stuff with cooking stuff. But If you find out please drop by & let us know
xo

Ok?! Just sayin.. so ya know. Lolol. You made it look super easy! Your silicone came out looking great
lol Maddie, thanks so much

I was just wondering does this make a bendy silicone mold like if I was to surround an object for a mold would I be Able to bend it to get it out
it is flexible to point, but not to surround an object. . . maybe 3/4 of one. It's really hard to say because it would depend on if it has rounded smooth edges or sharp corners. good luck and thanks for the great question & for watching

Dang it 😂 ~ I’ve been doing this with the corn starch 😬 [ very very messy ] ~ this looks so much easier and cleaner =👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽 ~ will definitely be giving it a go ~ THANK YOU 👌🏾💖
Yeah, Lisa glad you will try it out. Mostly you need the caulk gun for this. Please let me know how it goes & good luck

APG Jamie I have the gun already!!
great!

So you can cast your molds a lot sooner..
thanks G. for the suggestion. I didn't mix my silicone with anything & it was set withing 20-30 minutes
Water dont need to be cold. Just room temperature will be same result just more dish soap.
thanks so much for your input
Nice video thanks
thanks so much Ponies

You can put resin in this right to make a resin charm??
hi Snow, I have not used resin in these molds, However there are comments from people who have. If you are going to try it, I suggest to try it with a mold you would be ok with loosing, in case it does not work out.
Thanks for watching & have a happy artin week
APG Jamie thank you! For responding. I'll take a look. And love your videos
xo
Muchas gracias y feliz artin
google translate : How do you remove the fat that remains at the end of the silicone mold as you do it?
IF you have extra silicone on the ends, it should not hurt anything however if it bothers you, I would suggest to trim it very carefully. Being cautious not to ruin the new silicone mold. IF i misunderstood the question, please try to rephrase it for me.
xo
Thanks so much & happy artin
wow it seems do easy :O and i need some molds...I will definitly try to do these !! Thank you so much ;)
it's easy & gets easier each time - keep the water cold & soapy & your hands that way too

ps thanks for binge watching more xoxo
Hi -- thank you for the video. I am guessing "Dawn" is a good quality detergent and that;s why people are saying to use it. We don't have that one here in Australia . But I'm guessing something like Fairy will do the job.
Dawn is a great degreaser, as I understand it is some kind of chemical reaction that causes the silicone to set up. Please let us know if the Fairy brand works and the main thing is to get the item you are molding really soapy wet. Good luck & thanks so much for watching
xo
happy artin week
hi.when i try to remove stuf ,they stuck and does'nt remove perfectly.why is that for?
hi Shaha, it sounds like the item you are molding may not have enough soapy water on it OR it could be too porous to mold.
good luck and happy artin
was looking for a mold making video and found you!!
so glad you did Mizz, IF you try it let me know how you like it OR show pictures / video ^5

+APG Jamie I sure will..thanks again!!
hi there... thanks for the inspiration ☺ I'm wondering if I can use these molds with concrete or hot glue sticks instead of clay. please give me your thoughts. thanks again
hi Kristin, great questions, I'm sorry I have not tried either of those and suggest that IF you do to use a mold you would be ok with loosing if it doesn't work

Thanks so much for your feed back
xo

Same here..does anyone knows why and how to fix this?
Hey, is it possible to make a 2 part mould with this method?
I have not tried to make a 2 part mould, but you can try . . . was jut thinking to have some cooking parchment paper to put between the 2 parts, maybe just might keep them form sticking together. Not sure about making a whole then cutting it a part somehow. I just don't know, let us know it you try and or figure out a way
thanks so much for watching & for such a great question
xo
ps happy art'in
APG Jamie Thank you! Keep makin' great videos ;)
Again so glad you watched & commented , have a blessed
day

Thank you Lucia I appreciate that. . . if you try this you may want to use gloves, some people have very sensitive skin & I remember if I mentioned that.

Can the silicone be prolonged in the soapy water?
well sort of IF you don't knead it too much, it can sit in the soapy water for for 10 minutes or so. I would do my best to have all things ready, the surface you will put the silicone on until it firmly sets, the items you want to cast.
happy artin
Why just the face? Why not the whole head of the doll head? Just curious.
good question Star, Just the face because I want a flat back and I'm not sure you can use this method to create a 3D mold BUT mostly I wanted a flat back
thanks very much
Just saw another video with the same stuff, using warm water. It worked, but maybe it sets up faster that way so time may be limited.
or maybe just not so cold? If it's ice water, I'm not putting MY hands in it!
it may depend on the age of the Type 1 silicone.
Who knew?
Can I use plaster of Paris in these molds?
I have not, BUT they should be find to use with Plaster or Paris. use all precautions normally used with plaster & be careful when unmolding you how easy plaster breaks. good luck with your project & let me know how it came out
thanks for watching

Is this safe mold for soap making
hi Tonya, it should be safe for Soap, Always do a test with your particular mold to be sure the mold can withstand the hot liquid soap
thanks so much for watching
xo

Could you use this type of mold in the oven to cure polymer clay? I'm always worried that when I go to pop the clay item out of the mold it will distort. Thanks very much :)
I would not use these in the oven as I have no clue how the silicone would react to heat or the probable fumes it would release.
However, you can put the mold in the refrigerator or freezer for a few minutes, that will cool the clay & make it less likely to distort.
Can these molds be used to make homemade soaps with essential oils?
I would suggest to test first, as with everything, but I don't see why not.
thanks for watchin

Can you use this for cold process soap making?
great question, wish I knew.
Have fun!
Can you use this diy mold for resin?
Jenanna, I have not used mine for resin BUT others have said this type works fine with it. I would suggest a small test just to make sure it works the way you want and of course to use caution. Afterwards I'd love for you to let us know how it went. thanks so much for watching

You're a hoot! Just subscribed. I'd been planning on trying this this weekend. Your video was perfect! Can't wait to try. Have you ever tried adding color to the silicone?
thanks so much, keep your hands & items to mold soapy & cold water (works for me) I have not colored it, not sure I'd bother {shrugs} lol
xo
ps happy art'in
Yep, will follow your directions to a T. Hadn't read about the cold water. Was thinking colored silicone would be easier to see details...but I guess it doesn't matter, as long as it works~!
There are other methods that do not use cold water. They mix in color and use corn starch so you do not have to use the cold water.

Can you put hot glue in the molds?
gosh that's a great question, I'm sorry I have no clue. I know that typically pops outta the store bought silicone molds, but I really don't know if it would these. I'll go try it & get back to ya

Can you use this for resin pours?
hi Lena, thanks for watching. I have not used it for resin BUT I have commenters that say they can be used for it. IF you try it I suggest to err on the edge of caution - try it outdoors with a silicone mold you're ok with loosing IF it doesn't work for you.
Please come back by & let us know it you tired & how it went
thanks again
xo
happy artin
Can I use those molds for casting resins?
I'm sorry I don't know as I don't use casting resins
If you try it please come back & let me know how it worked out
xo
happy art'in & have a blessed week
I think that would work. Make sure you use release aid on the mould before pouring in the resin.
the silicon will stick to polymer clay doing this?
Once the the silicon is set it does not stick to polymer clay. However I have not tried molding a Polymer clay piece.
using polymer clay in a silicon mold - You can always dust it very lightly with corn starch / or other release powder. as with any mold it can be helpful to cool (refrigerate) it before you pop out the clay.
Great tutorial, thank you!!!

Thank you Almut they are kinda fun

Can we use resin in these molds?
I have not, however I believe one of the previous commenters said she did. IF you try it, use a mold you are ok losing if it does not work. That way you know if your resin will work with your silicone molds.
thanks for watching & for your question
xo
happy artin
Can these be heated to cure poly clay?
hi Dawn, I would Not heat them. I don't know for sure, but because this is not food safe silicone I would be afraid it would cause hazardous fums if heated. Thanks for the great question and for watching
xo
happy artin
APG Jamie yeah .. I thought so but thought to ck. Thx!
Does this only work with clay? Would it work with resin?
thanks for watching DarkFire, and I don't really know as I don't do resin, sorry. But if you experiment please feel free to let us know

darkfiresnake21 i was wondering the same thing. crafty lefty has a mold making tutorial for resin 😉
great Lauren, thanks for sharing that info

I have tried this soooo many times without success I'm going to try it your way but where do you get your silicone? I've been trying to use the kind from Lowes but I've seen people saying it doesn't work.
I get mine from Dollar General, I think it is Red Devil 100% clear silicone. white tube with a bit of blue on it
crossing fingers this works for you

100% silicone have smell??
Yes, Zafar it does as you are molding and for a week or so after that. If you are sensitive to odors definitely use in well ventilated area and wear a mask.

Can you mold silicone IN a silicone mold???
Hi Courtney, the answer is no, thanks for the great question. Seriously I mean NO, silicone will stick to silicone and then you have a real mess. lol and nobody has time for that.
xo
thanks for watching & happy art'in
APG Jamie awesome! Thank you !
I have been experimenting with silicone mixed with corn starch. I've tried to make large molds using multiple batches. Whenever I add another batch to an already hardened batch the bond is weak. I also accidentally got Vaseline on a small area between batches and they came apart with ease later on. It's worth a try.
It does stick to wax paper -
thanks for watching RivqYahBat, I do not have an issue with it sticking to the wax paper.
