This is the first time I've heard David Virelles, he's a force of nature, what a powerful band this is. Potter is a mystic genius of the saxophone.

It is incredible how Chris never reapeats an idea or line .Considering all cds as leader ,sideman or youtube Videos.David's Solo is Extraordinare ! Chris on 6'07" usêd a Michael Brecker line but in an Outside context. So Rare To See Him Doing That .

Incredible version, the energy build up on Potter's solo, the 'arc', the 'curve'...damn, Virelles' too, goes into Free-Folk-Bop tangents, always with total consciousness, total awareness of the tune. And the rhythm section is stellar, Martin tastefully grooving, bouncing, always swinging, he knows exactly how to play for the music, and the drums...aggressive but with nuance, presence with little subtleties...I'd heard them with Gilmore, who's amazing, and understands and offers those same elements, but Waits is amazing too - his own man

If this is not a "super group" I don't know what is... fantastic, relevant, musical, alive... I don't know much of Chris Potter, but lately I can't help but notice the consistently powerful tasty sounds I keep hearing from him.

I am fascinated with concept that music can be composed with such vivid superiority. Of course all musical creations are concocted from the writers own passions and more abstract intentions, those of which are appraised and interpreted into the song its self... it just makes me wonder, how should the pure source of this creative capacity be identified as?

If you would like to have your mind blown...please check out Chris Potter's extraordinary solo on Steely Dan's track "West of Hollywood". It is one that I'm certain you will NOT soon forget!! Happy listening!!

Very nice! What inspired the title of this piece?

I say it's because of the repeating riff, which sounds to me like an African Folk motif - on the album it is played by Chris on the intro, on an instrument known as Kalimba, an African instrument, kinda like a thumb piano. In Africa it is generally known as 'Mbira', but among the Afro-Caribbean it is known as 'Kalimba'. Hence 'Ilimba'.
