Normally, I'll expect American/Canadian Chinese food to taste different from authentic Chinese cuisine, given that the locals often modify recipes to suit their local palette. Having been to China and sampling our street food yourself, how does the street food in Richmond Night Market compare to in China?
@@Shenzhou. trust us. Street food festivals in Canada are as good as those in China/Taiwan/Hong Kong. The quality is amazing.
@@MarkYeung1 But I doubt the prices are the same for street food in China as compared to in Canada.
@@Shenzhou. Street food used to be VERY cheap in Hong Kong. Street food In Canada is different because regulations don't allow selling in a cart or truck. You have to go to a proper restaurant or carnival to get it. Hence it is more expensive.
@@MarkYeung1 Carnivals like the Richmond Night Market are basically _"tourists traps"_ where street vendors deliberately jack up the prices of what would have been otherwise cheap street food, and the carnival exists for a limited period. Whereas in China, not only is the street food cheap and tasty, it's available virtually all year round.

That was a great introduction to the Richmond Night Market. As a Vancouver resident, it's been an annual trek to this event. But besides that, I think the BC west coast has the greatest asian crusine in North America, and unfortunately there's no way I could get to a fraction of them in a lifetime.

I live in Vancouver. The Richmond Night Market has tasty food, but it's overpriced for what it is. Nonetheless, it would've been awesome if I could've joined Cyrus in this vid. Haha

Oh yes, the Richmond night market. It was supposed to be closed for good. Now it is back. That's great !!! A real favorite of the Chinese community of Vancouver. A place to hang out in the evening. There used to be a competing "Chinatown night market" in Vancouver Chinatown, along Keefer street, east of main. Wonder if that is coming back.

Hi Cyrus. You are the perfect ambassador of goodwill. You mentioned you love China, frequently traveled to Taiwan, visited Xinjiang; reminded you of its delicious Xinjiang mutton skewers and introduced Richmond's Asian street food.
Really appreciate the way you presented it. Its like.... "come on guys... I am an American, been to these places, all is cool, safe and peaceful. Thank you.
Ps. Vancouver is one of my favourite city.
It starts out as a Chinese Night Market and now evolves into an South East Asian Night Market. For the locals, it is a bit expensive but they went there for fun and convenience. Some of the people don't wear mask came from other city like Surrey so please make sure you bring your mask to protect yourself. I will avoid vendors who don't wear mask too. For example, 10:42 the vendor who has no face mask while shouting over the foods.

It usually takes place between May and October, but it's best to check out the website.
