A cemetery in the middle of a multi lane highway should be an excellent reminder for people to drive carefully.
Yeah that’s the takeaway. Demolish every highway. Build superfuture trains.
Ah, yes indeed.
I grew up not far from this cemetery on the other side of Highway 27, before it was 427. Even in the early 60's is seemed oddly close to the highway. If one looks at the frame @ 3:43 you can see what I mean. Also in that areal photo, you can see just to the right & a bit above the former TURKEY PALACE. Turkey Palace also has an interesting history & I've never been able to find a photo of their giant neon Turkey. In the winters we played hockey on frozen ponds in the vacant field opposite the cemetery. We knew it was time to come home when we could see the neon Turkey lit up. On the way home, the graveyard looked kinda spooky in the glow from street lights some of the colour from the Neon Turkey & the pattern of passing car's headlights.
Most who drive by it have no idea it's even there.
I've aways wondered why that cemetery existed in that exact spot. Thanks for posting this!
With all that energy being generated by the constant rapid motion, that cemetary must be as haunted as heck.
We must respect people's final resting place . Period.
Yorkville, Toronto was a potters field in the 1800s.
When the city expanded north, the remains were reburied a few blocks southeast in the Necropolis.
Am I the only one who isn’t overly bothered by them building a highway around the cemetery? They didn’t put the highway overtop the graves..which would have been disgraceful. It looks well maintained and seems to be accessible for families to visit their loved ones. If my family member was buried there I’d rather leave them lie in peace than be exhumed and moved.
no. it is fine as is
Interesting. I past by that cemetery daily and instantly recognized it. Always assumed it was a old church cemetery.
Good use of drone camera 👍
Tough spot to actually "rest in peace". 😆
So, how does a coffin get from the highway to the cemetery? Do they literally have to park and carry the casket up that steep incline? And no, not at all peaceful.
The dead certainly aren't resting in peace with that constant traffic noise.
To remind for crazy drivers 😂
Car culture is so gross
Land should be for the living and not for the dead FFS!
How this tiny cemetery ended up wedged between two major Toronto highways 1734pm 16.10.23 that's a bit... i am surmising the graveyard may have been there before the highway...could be wrong...(?) so a bit disrespectful from yourselves, eh?
Finally something less depressing(no disrespect). I mean having listening to the Israeli Palestinian things all day makes me depressed.
Then stop listening. There's your free medical advice for today.
0:39 🤔 Weirdest placed? Or, there before the city determined the dead don't care about noise or pollution, so build highways right next to cemeteries? 🤔
Cbc has commenters on Payroll.
You think the Kimber descendents found out their ancestors are in a cemetery in the middle of the highway
When City Planning turns into Sh*tty Planning 💩
Cemeteries are privately owned or abandoned & a request has to be made to move them plus there is a huge expense involved. By law you can not violate them, move them, without a request. Try getting the facts before you dump on something you know nothing about.
@@d.r.tweedstweeddale9038 I’m sorry your efforts at city planning didn’t go as planned. Maybe try with Legos next time. 😂
end cbbc
Hey CBC give the dead the peace they deserve. You show names of people. Is that necessary? Leave the dead alone. A note to the reporter-settle down dude and be a bit more respectful you are running around in a cemetery. Relax are you so desperate for things to report about? I guess this is the problem of the 24 hour news cycle.
I think perhaps you're the one who should relax. Names on grave markers are not confidential. As an area resident myself, I have always wondered about this cemetery and its perplexing location. Now I know why.
Get a puppy dude. Are we so short on relevant news that this is what we have to watch. Keep your toxic anger to yourself. Have a great day.
This is disgusting and city planners should be ashamed. Is nothing sacred?
It's still a cemetery, right?
It's actually an excellent use of land
@@rj7855 Car infrastructure is invasive and definitely not an "excellent use of land." This is an example of it. A rail line and a much smaller highway would take up a fraction of the space and allow for a decent distance between the cemetary and a bunch of noise.
It Is BAD Luck To Stand On The DEAD People's Grave's.
As opposed to living people's graves?

Any thought of moving this resting place, means that Canada as a civilized country ceased to exist.
You need serious psych care if you think the location of this one old historical cemetery indicates "means that Canada as a civilized country ceased to exist." Try getting a sense of proportion before you make such over-the-top & absurd pronouncements.
