No need to remove ex vessel. Remove spark generator and the tray on top of the heat ex swings round and you can get onto the schrader valve, also if it keeps cutting out on high fire remove actuator head when in service mode and open a hot outlet and dump the heat through the tap, 👍 thanks for the vids mate love seeing the big boy plumbing only do domestic gas myself

So, I’m not a qualified gas engineer but I am a qualified electrical engineer 😂 - if I contract someone in to service my boiler, what’s the chance of them doing this correct service procedure, do I have to watch them like a hawk or will they follow guidelines if I ask them to?

Hi, this isn't really the typical service to expect. I'd let the engineer be when he comes to service the boiler. You could ask what does it entail. Is it a safety check or will he be doing more. The manufacturers instructions gives good guidance as to what a service should include. Poor engineers who comes to yours now, I feel sorry for him. Well do offer him a tea and he might take the case off to look inside.

Hi mate I’m newly qualified for service this boiler do I need to clean heat exchanger always?

It's good to follow the manufacturers instructions and see what they see as a "service". Also check with who you work for if that's what they expect. Take some things into account such as combustion readings, age of appliance/condition of appliance. If the burner has ever been cleaned. If you have a new burner seal with you. If you have been allocated adequate time to do it. Think that two hours has to be allocated for a thorough service but you may only have 30 minutes. Hope that helps. Bare in mind to focus the majority of your service time on your safety checks. When servicing commercial boilers I aim to spend 2-6hrs depending on the boiler. Domestic, which I hardly ever work on I expect to spend 1-2hrs. You can state in your follow on notes that the boilers heat exchanger is due for a clean so that a service kit is required. If you work for a company it's unlikely that you will be allocated the time to service a boiler as per manufacturers instructions. Yet ensure that you do your safety checks. As for having time to do much more than your basic checks, it's unlikely. Some other checks are quick. Expansion vessels do a quick is it charged check. Clean condensate trap and replenish water. Yet some things like cleaning the magnaclean, or recharging the vessel may take too much additional time. Cleaning the domestic plate heat exchanger is not necessary. That's just me being over the top. Write a systematic list to save time of what checks that you need to do, rather than randomly approaching the service. Otherwise you will forget checks and lose time. Find an efficient way. Within 30 minutes you should be able to do all your checks. Then the other 15-30 minutes is bonus time.
