- Review of the Kreg Tracksaw. I have used it for over a year. I will tell you the good, the bad, and the ugly. This saw in my opinion is the perfect option for anyone on a budget. Is it as good as a $1200 competitor? Probably not. Honestly though, probably the best bang for the dollar.
This saw is under $300 currently (March 2022). I found it on Amazon for $299. However, that is just for the saw. The track and any other accessories are additional.
Worth mentioning separate from everything else... left sided blade... perfect for the right handed person!!!!!!!!!

Thanks Doug for your review of the Kreg track saw, I’ve been studying all of the track saws that are currently on the market and have really been on the fence about which one to buy, money being a huge factor but also reliability and value being a large part I think you have helped me make the decision to go with a Kreg vs the others.
I hope it suits you well. Good luck!
Good review. Thanks
Thanks for watching!
Great no-BS review, thanks.
Glad you liked it!
I'm thinking of buying this to make cradled wood panels (very archival for mounting linen canvas) for my paintings. Thank you for making this insightful video!
Glad it helped you.
Nice review. I'd love to see a head-to-head with the newer Ryobi, along with the Makita. I'm looking for a cost-effective track saw for breaking down sheet goods in my garage before I get them into my basement shop (and on to the table saw) because 4x8' sheets are very difficult to get down, especially 3/4" heavy sheets.
I agree with you. One of the main reasons I bought this track saw was for breaking down sheet goods. While I cant do a head to head as you mentioned. I can say that after over a year of using this saw I am still very satisfied with the purchase and the bang for the buck.
The blade that comes with this saw is wildly underrated. Typically, you buy a product and you need to spend another $50 for a better blade. I have personally caught several hundred FEET of 1" thick oak flooring boards and the blade still cuts clean and with no smoke.
I agree. I gave had this saw a few years now. Still using original blade with no issues
Nice review. I’m on the fence as well between the Makita vs the Kreg. Right now the Makita cordless is double the price. But i like the Makita case it comes with and ability to go cordless. I really really don’t want to have any regrets if I go with the Kreg b
makita cordless is a good machine from what I know of it. I cant speak to it myself. But bang for buck on a budget, i went with kreg
The Kreg set is as expensive as the Makita track saw in combination with the Powertec track rails ($135 for 2 tracks with the connectors included, the Kreg's track is $99 for one track). The $40 price of the Kreg's connectors is especially absurd (Powertec connectors for the Makita is $14). I did order the Kreg and i hope i made a good choice. I choose the Kreg because the Makita lacks a riving knife.
You might be right. The makita has lowered in price recently. When I bought mine over a year ago it was about a $100 difference after getting the entire set up.
I cant find any video on how to calibrate this thing. Kreg says to see the owners manual. I see a little gap when checking for square on the blade. Any advice?
Calibrate it? I can guess that you mean to verify the 90 degree cut? To do that in the past I have cut some thinner material. Then unplug it and leave the track in place. get a square and check the blade against the stock for true.
At the current time they don't offer the track connectors anywhere but when they were available they're 40 bucks for 2 little pieces of metal. Other than that I've really liked this saw
I agree. Crazy that the saw is at a good pricepoint and the small accessories are high.
@@BingWoodworking a little update : they are in stock now and I picked up a set. 50 bucks for what other brands charge 20-25 for their track connectors leaves a sour taste in my mouth, but all works as it should
Do those clamps move the length of the track without interfering with the saw's operation or do they just clamp down the ends of the track?
They move the length of the track. Think of it like a reverse t-track
What is the maximum on track cut depth? It says 2.125” but descriptions lie sometimes lol.
That sounds about right. I can verify that I have cut 2 inch stock. I dont think I have cut anything thicker than that.
The only reason I'm even remotely interested in the saw is because it's the only left handed track saw out there.
The left side blades are hard to find.
@@BingWoodworking what? No such thing.
Didn't know this was considered Left handed. All my Skill saws had blades on this side and I prefer them and I am right handed and thought they were considered right handed.
so hard to find tools for us lefties, lol…my right hand is useless…it’s just there to help me look normal 😂
It's the only right-handed tool. All the other track saws are left-handed. If you're right handed, when you use the Kreg, you'll be able to watch the saw cut. You can also walk along it as it's cutting.
