This trade makes Brunson unstoppable. They could barely guard him before when they had the center clogging the middle. He’s going to have a much easier time now.

It is a home run for the Knicks.
Towns gives the Knicks a big man who can compete with the best big men in the league - Giannis, Embiid, Jokic. He's not better than them, but he is in the ballpark.
Without question, Towns is an offensive big man who is an elite scorer down low and an elie 40% three point shooter for a big man and gives the Knicks an elite big man scorer to pair with an elite point guard in Brunson. The Knicks offense will be awesome as they have two elite three and D's with Anunoby and Bridges.
If Thibs can get Towns to rim protect and not make stupid fouls this time (he couldn't in Minnesota), then this is a huge win for the Knicks as they will have an elite defense with Anunoby, Bridges and Hart - not to mention Robinson off the bench, if they keep Towns at the five.
But even if Towns doesn't turn into a Thibs-ian defender at the five, when Robinson gets back, move Towns to the four. You still have an elite offense and three elite defenders on defense.
In any event, the Knicks starting lineup is awesome and there is still plenty of depth with Robinson, Hart, McBride, Achiuwa and Payne.
KAT's best numbers in his career came from playing under Coach Thibs - 24 pts 12 rebs and 1.4 blocks.
I think it was less about Randle guarding the 5, and more about the fact he and the athletically capable Obi, couldn’t rim protect shit. 5’s weren’t gonna punish Julius like they would’ve 15 years ago etc
I think you guys are understating the depth issue, which is why I (& I'm sure a lot of others) have major qualms about this deal even as we're excited too. OG has missed 30+ games in 3 out of the last 4 seasons and KAT has missed 20+ in 4 out of the last 5. Even if 2/5 of the Knicks' starters didn't come with big injury risks, a bench of McBride, Precious, and maybe a couple months of Mitch is just not going to cut it over an 82-game season. With so little margin for error in the East playoff standings it seems irresponsible to enter the season with functionally 7 healthy NBA-level players -- not counting Shamet (33.8% from 3 last year) or Morris (35 yrs old) because if either of them sees real rotation mins for a stretch this season the Knicks are cooked in those games. If they can turn Mitch into healthy rotation guys I'll eat my words but as of now this roster seems precariously thin
I would rather have guys that are happy and accept their roles rather than guys that are not happy or do not accept their role. No matter how good the players are the team won't reach their potential if there is any kind of negative energy/tension.

We love our guys (Divo and Julius) and KAT’s contract is bloated. But a stretch 5 could take our offense to another level.
C'mon, Josh Hart should not be the starter! Deuce is better suited to start. This puts the Knicks as a true 5 out offense. That's why you make this trade. Leave Josh as a sixth man. Swiss army knive role gives the Knicks what they need.
Seems like a boom or bust play. Either it clicks, we have a top 5 offense a good D and are a true contender for 3-5 years. Or it’s janky, the vibes are off. And we are making a trade after 2 mediocre seasons.
I can’t see anyone signing up for Mitch for anything valuable insert everything you just said about him. FYI Stanton is injury prone and always makes a difference in the playoffs
Who’s playing next to Kat? Prefer Mitch but that obviously clogs things up but still better spacing then last yr. Anything else and we lose size and gain versatility.

Well done as always, ultimately I don't think they will move Mitch until the deadline, outside of the Isaiah Stewart trade, I don't seewho they can get and Beef Stew does not offer enough defensively.
They need a scorer off the bench and a banger like center at the deadline. That’s better then going into the season with a hurt Mitch and Randle and sims starting

I'm not a fan of this trade for two reasons: the loss of DVo is primary IMO and I believe that you are trading continuity for Zesty Towns. Can he defend without Gobert? The only plus I have is that Towns hates Embiid almost as much as we do. I'm not calling him by his nickname until he shuts me up.

Bad trade towns is soft we were building something special now we got another injury waiting to happen
I was pissed when the trade first happened but I slept on it n I’m starting to feel better about it more n more I hate to see them go but KAT brings a lot to this team that we need I hope we re-sign Marcus Morris after this trade is officially done Kuz we definitely gonna need him in the locker room n for toughness
