    The OpenGD would be awesome on that radio. Nice.

    I have an Anytone 578UVII Plus tri-bander i run in a man-pack portable. I use the BT01 Blu Tooth handset to connect to it while its in the vehicle. works great and fixes the need to mount it in the vehicle. 73

      I think mounting the radio in the car is a pretty horrible experience - it would be great if we had DIN standards for radios still and somebody made a drop in mobile rig that also could RX broadcast and fit in that slot. Vero makes an android based dual-bander that could be worked from the in car tablet potentially - that would be great!

    9:10 OpenGD77 makes it a lot better to use and to program. I bought a second one to replace a CS800D because it was that much better. Also added the capacitor to get rid of the loud speaker pop. 11:22 GPS is in the control head.

    I run one of these as my main mobile that I picked up a couple years ago cheap because it had a screen issue that I was able to fix. The standard white backlight led had failed and I activated the dormant green backlight led. I haven't upgraded it to OpenGD77 yet, but I love it on my UV 390. These radios are a bit clunky but they get the job done.

      Yeah, you can tell its a little...um... vintage. So far so good though!

    Cool, thanks! The Anytone AT 578 uses the same micro USB port for programing. I'm disappointed with their new mobile. Rumors of Yaesu making a IC705 competitor and perhaps, maybe, someday, a new mobile from Kenwood. LOL Speaking of old radios, I scored a new in the box, never used FT-817. It's literally in the mail. 73 de WN7D

      Sweet! I love the 81x radios, on the 817, be careful of heat loading and it will last a long time. I need to get mine out and play with it some more.

    @TO I put my iCOM 2300H (2m rig) that's about same size inside the Center Armrest just south of those 2 cup holders. I made a thin aluminum plate that fit in the armrest hatch and was at a 45 degree slant (so you can still read numbers on the face of unit). I passed the DC Power wires and the thin coax cable between seam of the armrest door and plug it into rear cigarette lighter. Works like a charm. the radio is 80W and runs fine. Also, with the radio inside the armrest, it keeps people from wanting to steal it. :)

    I was looking at one of those a while back.. Seems like a great radio.. I see a few ppl put open gd77 on these and use them as a "high" power hotspot with either blue dv or pistar. Would be a cool video idea? ;P

    I have the TYT MD-9600GPS and a Radiodditty GD-77, both running OpenGDS. The MD-9600 acts as the DMR repeater with one of my PiStar Hotspots. Lately, I have been using them to cross-connect into the YSF- America Link. Yep, Tech-geek, I know! ;-)

    8:02 you would want that of the radio was hard wired to the battery in your vehicle. Otherwise you could wake up one cold morning to a battery too low to start the vehicle.

    • @temporarilyoffline
      @temporarilyoffline  7 месяцев назад

      I can see that - I would hope that the radio would go off completely with the ignition off - maybe on in the "acc" position. Right now, my radio stays on all the time and would drain the battery in a few hours if I wasn't paying attention.

    • @bryantwalley
      @bryantwalley 7 месяцев назад +1

      @@temporarilyoffline there are many people that go straight to the battery and do not go through the key switch. This auto shut off is what turns off the radio. I use an independent DC relay for things like this. That way the relay comes on and off with the key and the radio gets power direct from the battery when the relay is on.

    • @temporarilyoffline
      @temporarilyoffline  7 месяцев назад

      @@bryantwalley I am routinely in the car for more than 3 hours... I'd need the relay.

    a outher radio falling short on power. what a shock. most i tested come up a few watts short. still will work just fine. still some new stuff being sold with that old USB port. My Radioddity QT 60 has that port for programming. and I just got that as X mas gift from girlfriend . and I worked JS8 call on it today. and was NY to a island on the air. my first digital that way. I got 4 POTA stations on FT8 on 10/12 meters FEB 14th . no SSTV 10/12 meters today . I did send some. and a pic of candy to girlfriend on MURS SSTV and she got it at work break. MMSSTV works on most radios . we use HT in the car with mag mount. cup holder for the UV-5R . amp under seat, we got same car as K8MRD just different year a 2010 . 73's
