  • Today I tackle using Linux as the OS to install OpenGD77 onto a compatible radio. The basics in this vid should apply to all OpenGD77 capable radios, but the specifics are for the MD-9600 from TYT or the RT-90 from Retevis.

    Thanks T.O. Im interested in OpenGD77 in a HT first. Nice and concise info compacted into one short and sweet video.👍🤠

      We did a nuggets episode on putting it on some HTs a while back. When my schedule frees up, I'll get an HT and put it on there as well.

    Greatr video and I do love the OpenGD77 Firmware, really feels like it is made for us. I've been using it for a couple of month on a RT-90 and it is just joyful!

      @@temporarilyoffline gettinng the GPS to lock takes an age with mine but I can't work out if it is firmware issues or simply a slightly less than optimal antenna. However once it is does get lock I am getting good reports of it.

    Always appreciate that you show the complete “process” including difficulties.
    One thought - doesn’t your DHCP server track hostnames of things it hands out addresses to? I usually find it muuuuuch simpler to just go look in my DHCP server for wayward devices.
    (And all devices that are staying and not temporary get a MAC address assigned IP in the DHCP server. Only temporary things are getting random addresses.)
    I loved your reaction to the notes about TYT screwing with the version numbers. “Fantastic!” lol. My go to is “Super job! [mumbled: “you dummies!]” lol.
    Nice job on the Linux flash fun.

    • @temporarilyoffline
      @temporarilyoffline  6 месяцев назад

      Thanks Nate! I didn't actually know the host name until after I logged in. It was a left over config from when I was playing with SDR++ in a nuggets episode a few months ago and was "good enough for this mission" - I didn't bother to look.
      Most things are written by the developer that has done the trick a thousand times and has forgotten some of the intermediate steps. I always try to have somebody else do the thing and help with the directions because of this. "Fantastic"

    That was interesting. Couple of notes: NMAP works very well on windows. scp assumes that the directory is the default directory so using the '.' after the ':' is redundant.
