    Lets create a 3D image from a simple 2d photography.
    Thanks to camera match in 3ds max is very simple to get the correct camera point of view.
    With camera map we will project the photo on our basic 3d model for a nice parallax effect.
    We will replace complex objects like trees or flowers by 3d collection models and we will see how to use rendertotexture to bake illumination information.
    Finally we will use make preview to generate our final image, in this case its around 2seconds a frame for fullhd resolution on an old laptop with a 960M gtx. Recording this video and doing the 2d to 3d conversion took me 2 hours (with some sections recording it multiple times), so even this scene is simple and could be totally redone without camera projection, is a really fast approach, and can be very useful when we have a final image and we just want to give some light animation to it. Also is very cost effective in rendertimes.
    This is the camera map script Im using: www.effectivet...

    Thankyou for sharing! I learned so much from this. Till now i was doing this with multiple 2d planes only, skewed manually. This was the missing link. Camera projection map with a script and create basic matching geometry. I will use this tip in my projects. Thanks

    Very interesting! However this highlights perfectly the main problem with 3DS (although at the same time it's also a general 3D software problem). Things often don't work out of the box without some extra script or random knowledge on how to fix it. In an ideal world would there would be a database of fix's that every user could refer to. Like a 3DS wiki. There's so much random information spread across forums!

    Thanks Eloi ! it could have been interesting to try a real reflective material in the glass instead of the projection mapping to see if it can make a realistic moving reflection cause its the thing that doesn't work very well when the camera is moving... but this tutorial is awesome, i'd like to experiment with video material taken from old movies, it might be a demanding task cause is not a single still frame...

    Its so sad, that autodesk hasn't touch the camera projections functions over 15 years - like a lot of other tools as well! ... i know,you can do a lot with max but only if you have endless money to by all scripts and 3rd party plugins or you can script your own and have endless of time ;-)

    • @andvfx
      @andvfx  4 года назад +1

      well, we have plenty of free scripts that enhance camera map. Gemini is a power camera map... and its free! www.projectgemini.net/CameraMapGemini/

    • @andvfx
      @andvfx  4 года назад +1

      And even another one! Now that we have MCG you can create your own camera projection, or enhance it.... Or just donwload one for free! Here a pretty good one: cganimator.com/mcg-camera-map-multi/

      @@andvfx Thx Eloi! i know there is a lot of free/good stuff around ...but I think all these functions/tools should be already in 3DSMax! ...only the old and shrinking community keeps 3DSMax alive ...not Autodesk! ...if you look to Houdini, Blender and C4D you can really feel the team and their passion behind the software and If you talk to them personally the really listen to your feedback and tell you all their plans for future updates. I think Autodesk 3DSMAX and Maya really needs more people like you!

      @lordavius 4 года назад +1

      @@patfish3291 You got good points, but the devs (Max devs) are indeed listening, constantly, to feedback, and the plans for the future updates are on the public roadmap that they released and are constantly updating.

    Fantastic tutorial, unfortunately in my version od 3ds max it doesn't work properly. I set up the perspective match and everything aligns perfectly. After creating a camera and applying camera map to objects with the script, some objects loose the alignement. I just keep trying over and over:(

    Hey Eloi :) Thanks for another great tutorial! In my current scene I´m setup perspective match. I have a house with a terrace and a fence. From the camera angle everything looks great and every object aligns perfectly with the image! But as soon as I jump out of that camera I notice that the proportions are completely wrong... The fence is about half the size of the house and the house looks tiny. I have no idea what I did wrong... I´ve watched so many tutorials already about this topic.. Maybe it has to do with parameters like FOV, etc.? But if so, how can I fix that?I hope you can help me with that! Thanks a lot in advance!

    • @andvfx
      @andvfx  3 года назад

      Soluna Actually I dont think there is anything wrong, if your two objects has no visible contact from camera, its totally normal this happens. You can have a very small object close to camera, and a very big object far to camera, covering the same space from camera view... just because perspective. One easy trick is grap one object, scale it based on your camera position to make it bigger or smaller, but having the same camera view dimensions.... actually this can be the next tutorial I will do.

    I dont know if can be used in this case but there is also the Camera Map per Pixel map. very useful as you dont need to increase the mesh od the objects you map :)
    but not sure if works on viewport, and now I can't test. :(

    • @andvfx
      @andvfx  4 года назад +1

      Ignacio Mullor Yes, the problem is that then you cant display correctly on viewport.
