I dont know if this song was intentionaly made this way, but its even relaxing to play.
Is not too fast, is not too technical, its strict, its rithmic, its constant.
Huh, kinda reminds me of how the game works ;)
“Yes, Indeed.”
dark souls is not relaxing
@@memelord9232 not the first time. But when you know it by heart it is pretty relaxing also

Getting to new parts, finding new bonefires, and overcoming always felt so nice
@@memelord9232 Eventually Dark Souls can make you realize a state of tranquility with its opposition. The game becomes a lot more enjoyable once you've progressed past getting angry at repeated loss and achieve heightened focus and forethought.
but yeah sometimes I just feel like the games are bullshit
Something about this always gave me Resident Evil save room vibes. Part of why I immediately fell in love with the game when I played for the first time.
Bravo! I love the bonfire sound-effects included in the background :)
Thanks for noticing!

Remember to take the Pendant at character creation. Its very important.
@@alfredobelloni3258 Most important item in the whole game.

This game was a unique experience for me on my first playthrough, it felt and feels like a half remembered dream, and this music always takes me back to it. An ephemeral masterpiece.
A Moment's Peace in a World of Cinder.
Comfort ahead, and then - something beautiful
"Very good! Very good indeed!"
The methodical movement of your hands calms this dark soul, very well done!
My favorite dark souls track ❤️
This deserves a million views.
Thanks so much.

Absolutely magical, my friend. Brilliant.

This is great. I just ordered my keyboard today and I’ll be learning this piece in the future!
How it went? Its a really nice song to play :)
Yo what kinda keyboard u snag? Im trying to get into keyboard/piano cuz why not so, any recommendations?
I hope you followed through. I haven't touched piano in a decade, but im gonna learn how to play this. 🖤
Bravo, sounds beautiful

This is very beautiful, melodic and relaxing
I love this song and my favorite game.
Fantastic! Good work! Thank you very much!
2024 and still listening 🎶 👌
Bravo!!! A la altura de la original, incluso quizá hasta mejor. Felicitaciones! 🙌👏
me who is just a dark souls fan and has a keyboard and want to play this song: fuck he is good and i dont know how to read that thing above his hands
Nostalgic.
This piece really conflicts me, because the bass notes and thus the chord changes don't strictly follow the ostinato running on the top. The "melody" is actually a 9/8 ostinato running overtop of a 6/8 time signature at 96.5 BPM that changes chords every 4 measures. While I do think for sanity's sake it is easier to notate the ostinato as that which the structure is built around, I have yet to hear anyone covering this song change the chord/play the bass note at the correct 4-measure 6/4 interval. If you listen to the bell ring in the original song and 4 measures of 6/8 treating the harp as 8th notes, you'll hear what I mean!
I can hear what you are saying! My approach to arranging video game music is to focus more on how I "hear it" or perceive it, getting as close to the correct pitches and rhythms as possible.
For instance, I have a Hyper Light Drifter "West" arrangement that I've sat on forever. I hear this rhythm in 3/4, but my friends hear it in 6/8. One reason I've sat on it for so long is that I have been trying to find a way to convey both my hearing of the 3/4 in the opening and, as the piece continues on, change to the 6/8. A lot of times these things are purposefully illusionary, often to convey a certain affect. "Soul of Fire" is like that. The meter has been skewed so much that it seems to morph as you listen, inviting you in to understand it.
Ultimately, notation at its best shows the performer/theorist the most simplified (but also detailed) version of the music. Because this arrangement is for a single player, certain things have been sacrificed for readability. If I was arranging this for orchestra, I would opt for a metric scheme that supports the chordal structure, allowing the busy harp soloist (along with intermittent violists and clarinets) to be in more complex grouping over the simpler meter.
But yeah, there are many approaches to looking at this piece, which is why it is so fascinating!
Yes, I do agree on notation serving the player over being "correct" per se, but I also just haven't heard anyone else work that obscured 6/8 pulse into their arrangements, even though it's clearly there. I find it fascinating that the 9/8 harp ostinato seems to obfuscate the true nature of the piece, lulling the observer into believing a beautiful deception and following the pulse they can feel the melody creating. Thematically, it fits perfectly with Dark Souls, where those following the Way of White, their reasoning manipulated, fight to keep Gwyn's flame burning due to fear of the dark, not realizing the dark is what their souls are made of and thus where their own power lies hidden in plain sight. Overall, this piece truly is a work of genius, and whatever the interpretation it remains one of my favorite pieces of video game music. Thanks for your cover!
Not gonna write as much but yeah I scanned comments to see if anyone discussed this. Pretty much covered it lol
There is no need to take 9/8, just count it as a 5+4/8
[One two three four five; one two three four]
@@cactusowo1835 I actually figured this out a bit ago: the beautiful harp line running over the chord progression is the deceptive part (fitting, given the nature of Dark Souls). The harp line is actually 9/8, where the main chord progression is in - get this - 4/4. If you count the harp hits as *1* + 2 + 3 + 4 + *2* + 2 + 3 + 4 + ... it actually lines up if you ignore the cadence of the notes being played. A little polymetric trickery for our brains, but it totally works.
Excellent!
I'm gonna cosplay my dark souls character and play this somewhere

Interesting to see it has some characteristics in common with Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata. Both present melodic and harmonic variations within the same rhythmic concept while maintaining dynamics with one or another highs and lows.
Can you please make a tutorial of this song pleaseee???
Hi, when you say tutorial, do you mean midi with keyboard visualization?
Oooo you get a bit of money for every clcik you get on the bitly link right? Anyway this is so calming I might play this when I go to sleep....
I don't get money from the bitly link, it's just to make it easier
Do you have a version of this without the bonfire sound effects in the background?

Notation must evolve, beautiful playing but the notation is so inefficient (not your fault, you're the best! )
