The compensation should be a calculation based on: Money taken from SPM adjusted for inflation, loss of income and investment adjusted for inflation, a daily rate for every day spent in jail or on parole, a fixed sum for loss of reputation, refund of all legal costs and a £40,000 pa pension indexed for life and tax free.

The PO Chair has been dismissed. I see a business completely out of any staff who have the ability to run a business. Completely. Any real business would be bust years ago. A new company needed. Recruit those who can not those who can't. Anyone on the Board today to be investigated for fitness to run etc..

WHY WAS THE SYSTEM NOT STOPPED WHEN IT WAS FOUND TO BE FAULTY? DID THE PO KNOW AND JUST WENT AHEAD WITH THE PROSECUTIONS IRRESPECTIVE?

We paid millions to this governments cronies for PPE contracts within days yet we have all this red tape for postmaster get it resolved and pay this injustice to these incident people. The corruption from this fizitue company how is the government still giving contracts to this criminal company and they should be paying the government back all the compensation and be held accountable.

What I’d really like to see is the following: how many spms were *correctly* identified as having behaved improperly and the numbers of those taken to court. I’d also like to know how the decisions are made that Horizon adversely affected individuals when they were accused of poor accounting or theft…

No excuse is acceptable. Liars exist in every country. Fujitsu has its share and made a huge problem for the U.K. post office. Now Fujitsu must pay for its evil by paying compensation of at least £1 million for each victim of its very own Horizon software. That will come to about one billion pounds sterling, payable now. The post office must be scrapped and replaced. No previous Po corporate manager ever accepted to work in the new Po.

ICL produced Pathfinder towards the end of the 1990s. Its purpose was to jointly serve the provision of the DWP and the Post Office. Pathfinder was an incomplete system given its tender to the DWP and Post Office was at its prototype stage. The DWP rejected Pathfinder as inherently it found significant and profound errors with the system. At this time, Fujitsu acquired ICL and titled Pathfinder as Horizon. Fujitsu conversely rejected the formal approach to rebuild ground-up of the Horizon system [alpha beta stage nee prototype]. This was because the time and money needed to have this rebuilt would erode into the profit otherwise gained. At this point the Government issued an award to Fujitsu of £500m to which end Fujitsu [formerly ICL] had spent near circa £180m. A rebuild would then at least double the cost of £180m. Horizon and ultimately was introduced into the Post Office System in October 1999 and yet the following month saw the first Audit Record Query Request given an imbalance of monies at the first sub Post-Office. The rest is history but the constant has always been a house of cards and you wouldn't put your house on that, would you?

@@firstandlast4415 interesting. Clearly management in charge either didn’t care the system was riddled with faults, or they just didn’t have a clue. Either way they are at fault and liable.

@@Exanto777 Yes, there was that awareness however all systems are imperfect including your mobile to example. Imperfections aren't the focus whereas what is in focus is the risk and the impact that is assessed on those who are to benefit from the system. At the time, it was not apparent as to the level and degree by which Horizon would have an impact on the sub-postmasters. In any system build, you ensure that integrity logs in whatever guises are established and linked to one another so that an entire view is established. The terminals used in the branches would transmit the key presses on the terminals as well as the transaction entered by the sub Postmaster. This was sent to Horizon via the Reposte system. The Reposte system is like a messenger but once at Horizon it would be subject to interrogation and amendments not only made by the system itself but also by System Users at Fujitsu. The former of these and that being the system being the result of various sub-routines being triggered by erroneous programming on the Horizon system resulting in inbalances at the branch. The latter and that being the System User at Fujitsu entering the live system [when they shouldn't be allowed to do] and attempting to correct the errors made by the system. It is suspected the System Users whilst aiming to correct matters and that being to the benefit of the sub Postmaster were actually making matters worse not being aware of the system that would propagate further errors and imbalances. Arguably it is the Reposte system which would identify the key presses and the transaction that ultimately proves more reliable albeit not an accounting system.

Hundreds and thousands of people especially after the people like myself who's financial cases weren't expecting to be cases are resolved. I'm not sure how it works for post office I assume has to do with upfront postage fees payments allowances? Its more of a too expensive to pay for money to withdraw money is the main issue.

The rules should be changed to let the next of kin claim damages, Because it looks like they waiting for the postmasters to die off.
Also the amount of compensation should be raised to account for the long wait and extended suffering that the post office knowingly caused.
Why dose the little person have to wait so long for justice?
