Hi Phil! Just wanted to let you know that every day I look forward to getting home, kicking off my shoes, and unwinding to a ThrabenU video. Thanks for all you do!
Love the videos! I may have to give the deck a try as I've been taking a break from modern since mh3 and played dnt before that! Something to note Skyclave is worded like oblivion ring so at 59:08 you could have skyclave >etb trigger target yggdrasil > respond with ephemerate > etb target talisman. This would Permanently get rid of yggdrasil without making a token for your opponent and leave the 2mv talisman under the skyclave
End of round 5, I don't think you had the out you mentioned before going to recap. Kozilek's return is a cast trigger, so Ulamog wasn't in play yet. There was no opportunity to ephemerate solitude and sac the creatures to pay the ward. You could ephemerate recruiter to grab a card out of the deck, but Ulamog was still going to be a problem that needed a solution.
Weirdly enough, rain of gore doesn't stop lifelink gaining life since its the damage that causes life gain, not a spell or ability. So ocelot pride works perfectly fine as an attacker if your opponent has rain of gore out
yeah, it's so stupidly templated, having so many common "gotcha"s. even having myself pulled up rain of gore many times as an example of weird rules jank, my mental heuristics still went "yeah, that makes sense" when phil boarded out some of his prides
Agh, frog jumpscare! Dunno when this was filmed but the decklist looks so sweet, hope it stuck around, even thoughit looks like it would bully a lot of other cool decks
@MrHabugagiba aha, thanks for the heads up! Yeah, modern's been looking really fun lately! I remember all these content creators moaning about how the unbans "don't solve anything" and modern is literally the most fun it's been in years
1:03:43 not that I think it would have mattered, but you *could* have dealt with the second Sire, in the most painful way possible... Exile Solitude with Phelia on attack. Phelia dies. At end of turn, Solitude returns to the battlefield, and you target Sire with it. With ward on the stack, pitch-cast Solitude to exile the Solitude on the battlefield to gain 3 life, which means you could exile the Sire and stay technically alive. At 1 life, no hand, a naked Recruited against your 52-life Eldrazi opponent starting their turn with 3 cards in hand and 7 mana available, but *alive* XD
I'm actively building this deck for modern season. The one thing really stopping me is the fact NOBODY has recruiters and the MDFC's. I own the rest of this
1:11:13 So, if you had Ephemerated here it wouldn't have actually done anything since Solitude would go right back to being doomed on the battlefield while the Ulamog still isn't on the battlefield and targetable. So not Ephmerating is actually correct. Moreover, you could still play it out a few turns longer, Overlord would've become a creature on your end step, so you could Ephmerate it then to get back Solitude and Solitude Ulamog. You're probably still dead (to decking, if not to one of your opponent's four extra cards), but hopefully this was helpful info to someone.
Solitude just gaining them a bunch of life to just wait until they draw another haymaker is brutal. And they have more haymakers that you have removals most of the time, barring the almost-impossible (in that matchup) Phelia-Solitude combo. Like, you're just delaying the inevitable at this point.
If there's another Solitude in the deck than he had the 6 mana to ephemerate the Recruiter, wait for the stack to resolve, and then solitude the Ulamog sacrificing two lands for the ward.
27:40 am i missing smth or did the opponent just miss out on a ton emrakul value by not getting solitude w/ the overlord trigger and evoking it on your other overlord in the endstep?
Maybe I’m just bad but at 28:13 can’t you pitch cast solitude, and still blink it with phelia to save it ? I suppose saving phelia for overlord is also fine
That doesn't actually work. Ajani flips when a Cat dies, dies means goes from the battlefield to the graveyard. If you blink a cat token, it gets exiled, as soon as a token enters any other zone than the battlefield, it ceases to exist and cannot come back. It never hit the graveyard, and thus didn't die. People sometimes say 'tokens die if they leave the battlefield', but that isn't true, they cease to exist, which is different. Notably they only cease to exist /after/ entering that other zone, so a token going from the battlefield to the graveyard still counts as dying, and then immediately after hitting the graveyard, the token disappears.
At ruclips.net/video/BaJzlKqG1Qk/видео.html you had Recruiter for Solitude, attack with Phelia blinking Solitude, then Phelia's Solitude targets Sire when it comes back in end step and you pitch Recruiter's Solitude in response to the ward trigger targeting the first Solitude to go to 8 and survive the ward. Leaves you at 1 with no cards in hand and only Recruiter in play, but it gets you through the turn : )
1:02:00: Why would it be so bad if opponent used aven interrupter on your ajani with the emrakul turn? You could just cast the ajani again on your real turn, and they would have put a 2/2 flier on the board for you
41:59 "there's a very good reason to not have played out ocelot pride...a single point of damage could mean that a lightning bolt actually becomes lethal" try NINE extra points of damage if you did play the pride! what a wild card lol
Hi Phil! Just wanted to let you know that every day I look forward to getting home, kicking off my shoes, and unwinding to a ThrabenU video. Thanks for all you do!
That's my favorite thing to hear!
Same here.
42:20 so playing the ocelot pride doesn't just kill you if they bolt, it kills you straight up, since it'll trigger and make a ton more cats.
41:10 I haven’t laughed that hard In A while. Those tokens all coming into play lol.

LEGENDARY discipline at 42:00. 100% of the time I'm playing the ocelot pride to see how many cats I can make... and dying for it

Recruiter could grab another solitude
Weirdly enough, rain of gore doesn't stop lifelink gaining life since its the damage that causes life gain, not a spell or ability. So ocelot pride works perfectly fine as an attacker if your opponent has rain of gore out
Also at 37:50 you say "rain of gore turns solitude into a burn spell" which also isn't true due to how rain of gore is worded. (It's a weird card)
yeah, it's so stupidly templated, having so many common "gotcha"s. even having myself pulled up rain of gore many times as an example of weird rules jank, my mental heuristics still went "yeah, that makes sense" when phil boarded out some of his prides
@@stellatedhexahedron6985 it does have the excuse of lifelink working differently at the time. Doesn't make it any less annoying now.
@@Seergun It does have the excuse of lifelink not actually existing for a few more sets at the time XD And then changing it three years later...
Game one of round four was awesome. Well played!
"Oh my god, Ward--Pay 7 life, are you fucking kidding me?!" ...So wait, was this recorded before your Sire of Seven Deaths video?
I think he forgot which makes it better
Agh, frog jumpscare! Dunno when this was filmed but the decklist looks so sweet, hope it stuck around, even thoughit looks like it would bully a lot of other cool decks
not entirely sure what you mean, but this is modern! frog is still legal and mtggoldfish has this deck doing fairly well under "orzhov midrange"
@MrHabugagiba aha, thanks for the heads up! Yeah, modern's been looking really fun lately! I remember all these content creators moaning about how the unbans "don't solve anything" and modern is literally the most fun it's been in years

Maybe time to try a legacy version of this deck? 😮
Infernal Reckoning would be a good weird side tech to deal with Sire. Exile it and gained 7 back. So a free trade.
Rakdos Charm in the Year 2025 of our Lord Keranos is straight gas.

I like it when you say "punchies," streamer
Love that you took the sewers deck that people are messing with and removed the 8 worst cards (bowmasters and aether vial) in favor of pride/guide.
Maybe I’m just bad but at 28:13 can’t you pitch cast solitude, and still blink it with phelia to save it ? I suppose saving phelia for overlord is also fine
So when Phelia's trigger goes on the stack, you need to select the target. The timing doesn't quite work out for that to be a valid play.
@ Ah shoot ! Well I always thought we could blink solitude in response, similar to ephemerate. Well there goes my plans lol
@ Oops I’m dumb. It’s also on attack. Now when she enters the battlefield.
I am surprised this didn't have the 4 WO Phantom
46:40 did you consider blink cat token for planeswalker transform?
That doesn't actually work.
Ajani flips when a Cat dies, dies means goes from the battlefield to the graveyard.

It is indeed tax season
Oh snap back to taxes.

Oof... it's been a hot sec since I've played with/against Kozilek's Return and I forgot how un-fun that second casting (from the graveyard) is.
I Love V A L U E
Sire of Seven Deaths (7)
Creature - Eldrazi
First strike, vigilance
Menace, trample
Reach, lifelink
Ward-Pay 7 life.
"HolY SHIT!" - Phil Gallagher
is his last name actually gallagher?!
Playing rain of gore against a solitude is either very dumb or very brave
