- Cold Waters: Blockade
Los Angeles-Class Attack Submarine
USS Boston SSN-703
2nd Dec 1984, 89 Nautical miles North West of Holy Loch
Freshly repaired and returned to service, the Boston encounters a wolf pack of Soviet submarines blockading the north channel preventing naval access to the Atlantic Ocean.
Having freshly turned the difficulty level up to maximum this should be fun.
I hope you enjoy!

MagzTV appears behind victor 3 "hard luck kido"
They should have called Elite mode, Realistic.
there is a low visibility mod you might try....
MagzTV bit shifty if its the USS Boston...
I'm perfect okay with less War Thunder when you're planting games like this.
Sky Flier gardening is very important
4:00 "Ninety fi-- THAT IS NOT A CHARLIE II."
Gotta say, Magz, that's the best reaction I've ever heard out of you.
Magz, the SSGN identifier on the Charlie is for a cruise missile sub. Hypothetically, it could be moving for a strike on the Holy Loch base in retaliation for Gremhika.
Can you imagine if Magz joined the RAN*?
"Conn, sonar, new contact, Kilo class. Now, the Kilo is an interesting boat to talk about..."
But in all seriousness mate, I do appreciate the additional info :D
*Assuming he hasn't already.
Well if I have time between actions I like to talk about the real machines and a little history. It's kinda what I do :)
so kinda liek an aussie Jingles, i like it
Magz, give us longer Cold Waters videos! They're some of your best.
The minute you fired everyone in that victor III is guaranteed to of shit themselves. "Oh fuck, he right there!"
Another great video Mags. really enjoying this series so far!
At that range I wouldn't be surprised if the crew heard the launch transient through the hull.
Entertaining videos for sure. I'm more of a WWII sub-enthusiast but this is really fun to watch.
Here's a thought, maybe the Victor 3 could hear you but it thought you were the one that got torpedoed rather than the Sierra and thus when you came around it thought you were the Sierra.
RF777, I had wondered if the breaking noise of the Sierra had helped hide him too.
I really like the higher difficulty setting. Makes for much more interesting gameplay when the enemy subs are not actively pinging you 24/7 as soon as you make a noise.
You are a better history teacher than what my school has
My favourite series right now
The suspense is real - just watched all of your Cold Waters vids and absolutely loved it. By far the best Cold Waters vids I ve come across so far...plz a lot more of this :)
Ladies and Gentlemen, I present to you, MagzTV, the Aussie in a Sub
Added to the playlist for that close encounter
Cold Waters is such a great sim. They have found a nice balance between difficulty and playability. I enjoyed it so much I decided to try their earlier title Atlantic Fleet which is different but equally as fun. :)
With 52% solution, its largely enough.
I send torps at 40% minimum solution with their sonar on and guide them such as necessary.
Depending of distance ofc, but the solution'll increase during course of the torp (and u can in good conditions, make 1 or 2 pings at ~1or2k yards before ur torp reach target, if necessary... it will increase solution by some % instantly too)
After 40%, u can trust the minimap icon and id wich direction target takes, and so guide the torp in that direction already.
After i activate the torp depending of context, but u can do early, some hundreds yards of own sub.
And on depth board, u can already on travel to target guide the torp to be at same depth... like that, sonar on, torp will have no issues to lock the target.
And always maintaining wire on.
If target drop a counter mesure, u instantly counter evasion movement of ur torp and maintain travel to target...
Its very efficient, best way to do in elite difficulty + view of targets off outside id... (imo, some may do differently ?)
So, globaly, i always guide my torps (~66% of all they do as average), or even just a few for easy kills, and until 2 together on 2 targets...
That gives me a very good ratio torp/kills.
Most of time 1 torp is enough.
Its less for missiles, and sometimes i send 2 torps together at few seconds distance from eachother, but its specific case like already damaged myself and needing to end fight asap.
Or if i know its a big target and 2 hits will be necessary or if the target is far and am surrounded by others, etc... but usually, guiding myself for a part and with anticipation on target makes each of mk48 deadly alone (its far different in 1968 ofc ^^ :p )
And to id sonar contacts, i really really advice u to use buttons of keyboard to do so, not mouse.
Same to select/switch target as u do on minimap, use the keyboard... u can go hugely more faster in process like that and to check all the list of echos to name the target ! Really (y) :)
(After custom of all controls to make it more sensed too, default setting is poorly coherent)
Hope it can help u too
Cya (nice video, like always) (y) :)
I love your videos on Cold Waters soooo much
can't tell if it's magz editing that makes this so immersive or the game in general.
MagZ, sold me on this game. Even though I have zero knowledge of Navy subs, I was riveted during all the Cold Waters videos.
I want the Seawolf class but I know it won't be added due not only to timeframe but also balance; the Seawolf is so friggin quiet it could probably run at 10 knots at all times and still be quieter than a Los Angeles
Great vid as always Magz, keep them coming. Sierra and Victor III certainly are capable subs and quiet killers. Oh and minor point, the Charlie class were SSGNs, not boomers.
Charlie class Submarine's both 1 and 2 are Nuclear Guided Missile boats not an SSBN it was designed to take out convoys and Carrier Groups so was the predecessor of the Oscar Class SSGN... outstanding videos though...
Magz pls keep doing these cold waters videos
2:10 am here in England. But it's Magz. Do you expect me to just not watch it?
Learning With Charlie its 3:12 am here in Germany. And yet i watch it lmao
Christ. That is dedication
Incredible game and impressive the information that you give awesome video too..I do greatly appreciate it too thank you so much..for your videos too.
Love this series mate!
Wow, this difficulty increase makes the game so much more intense! No more stupid moves by enemy subs :D
How close do you think you can get to an enemy vessel of your choice before they hear you?
The enemy subs' reduced active pinging came in a recent patch.
Not due to your difficulty level increase. ;-)
Just when I needed a video
Yay don't have to go to sleep yet 😂😂
My totally real girlfriend was saying her safe word and I was like "Naw wench Cold Waters with MagzTV© is on."
My totally real girlfriend dumped me.
feels bad man
Feels good man
"Primarch Alpharius", already don't trust you
feels bad man
Ninety fi...that's not a Charlie.
Everyone else would've just about crapped themselves due to the proximity. But not you, you handled the misidentification and prosecuted splendidly.
This episode was so good!
Magz, totally unrelated question here: Ever had an eyen on Ultimate Generals Civil War?
First time I had a go at it kept me going for 10 hours. Maybe you should have a peek...?
I recommend getting into the right spirits by first watching the beautiful and epic 9 part documentary "THE CIVIL WAR" by Ken Burns, if you don´t have already.
Torpedoes are pretty good at finding enemy submarines when they are trying to be sneaky, you don't need a firing solution at 95% :p
I know, but I like to have one anyway. Or as high as is safely possible.
Magz, with it being possible to drop behind the Russian subs like that, you know you want to show us whether or not ramming an enemy sub with yours is modeled or not lol
you can hit them, but no damage - but if you hit the seabed, yeah you will get hurt
ChaosphereIX I can confirm that with surface ships. I emergency blew under a resupply ship at flank speed and full up planes and just bounced off...
I love your ending music mags. And your vids of course
Red Oktober writing and sound... instalike! :)
Beautiful.
18:36 *Teleports behind Victor* “Nothing Personal Kid”
Great video!!
Great video Magz . Make me wish I was a pc player and not a console pleb so I could get this game. Keep up the fantastic work Magz
ASHKINGKILLER console peasant how you dare aee games for pc people, go back to e3
Kevineitor199 lol
even if you gave a laptop you could get this game. Only takes up less than 2gb of space and really easy to run :)
Wow, this was exciting.
At 900 feet depth and with only one torpedo hit, I guess it's possible that a part of the crew of the Sierra I survived? The Sierra I had a strong hull and a good deal of compartments to increase crew survivability no?
These are great you should be the ghost writer for the ghost of Tom Clancy. You should do the Audible advert by saying you an unabridged copies of Red Storm Rising.
So tempted to press "like" before seeing the video.
But I am going to wait, of course. :)
Great to know that Telstra would rather have me wait an hour for this video to load than actually fixing their internet
You did a "Batman attack" on that Sierra. :D
i did enjoy, you are more patient than most, and you dont make stupid mistakes. ill keep watching until i decide its unwatchable due to your incompetence. hopefully that will be a really really long time.
THAT is NOT a Charlie II !
At 3:57 you can see Magzes heart skip a beat
@MagzTV >>> You gave two Soviet subs *_"that sinking feeling"...😝_*
If the Soviet subs don't go active as quickly on 'Elite' settings, wouldn't that actually make things easier? Alright, detecting subs is harder but you won't be detected as soon yourself.
nephilimcrt sometimes active sonar gives your position away but doesnt spot the target
Is anything better than cold waters with mags?
Oh yes, it's getting real!
Any chance of The Long Dark coming back soon?
Did you serve on a real sub or did you gain all your skill whilst playing Cold Waters? I'm curious
You should install some more mods, Get the Realism mod for instance. It can make the simplest engagements last even hours.
I don't think he wants an hour long video on a simple engagement :P
Try the same scenario using the latest and realistic updated MOD by CaptainX3 found on GITHUB and you'll see the difference.
Magz, where do you get the Mods you were talking about in your other videos, like the realism and low visibility mod at, also, where on the game Cold Waters can I find where to do the Red October mission? I’ve looked everywhere.
Can we play for russian navy or other nations submarines? Royal navy or sweden....???that will be great
6:24 Why did that Sierra have a shark mouth? Big and impractical. On a plane maybe, but not a fucking submarine!
The Russian subs looked like riced out civics in their design style while the American subs look much cleaner cut and simpler but functional. It's like modern clean vs ugly and slap whatever body kit ya got.
Well said.
Why does it take just one torpedo to take them out, but your sub is more durable? Is it in design of submarine or is it just in game feature?
Not all Torpedoes are the same. Look up the Mk.48 Torpedo and what it is designed to to to ships and submarines, That should make everything clear.
I wish they detonated underneath the surface ships though.
Cheeki Breeki victor
Charlie II is an SSGN, not an SSBN. Cruise missile, not ballistic missile.
Which brings up another question...
Is the single Proj 661 Anchar ( Papa Class ) boat modeled and part of the game? K-222 had a reported top speed of 44.7 knots, which would make that a hell of a fun boat to hunt.
lmao the fuck is a kilo-yard? just use god damn kilometers :P
