My absolute favorite moment in this episode is when a little boy wakes up to find Dwight rocking in the chair in his room, and Dwight just calmly say, "Oh, good, you're up."
One example came to mind, the episode when they go to meet with David Wallace (M and Dwight) to convince him to not close Scranton's branch. At the end of the episode I think the ringtone plays out and Michael lets it because he wants to wait until he has good news to tell them!
I really liked this episode because Jim gets to play basketball with Wallace, which made me feel hopeful and special myself. It also humanized Dwight more even though he’s being “weird” I could relate to him more now rather than him just being annoying. The potato salad in Michaels car was hilarious and Wallace’s wife didn’t know what to do with it lol. Plus the opening was funny. All in all, it’s a feel good episode to me on top of the nostalgia.
I don't understand your definition of a filler episode tbh. Pam terminating the relationship with Roy for good is a major development for the Jim/Pam story arc and a necessary prerequisite for them finally ending up together. This episode also shows some important differences between Jen and Michael in how they see their relationship which will eventually lead to an inevitable end of it. Plus the cliffhanger. That's not a filler episode in my book.
Relatively new to the channel and I’m just loving burning through them on my commute to and from work. This is a good series and I look forward to continuing the binge. I think the ketchup fights thing is a reference to The Naked Gun. There’s a montage where the two romantic leads do a bunch of oddball stuff, and one of them is getting into a ketchup and mustard fight at a hot dog cart. If you haven’t seen it, I cannot recommend it highly enough. I really enjoy the sequel, too, but the third installment is kinda meh upon further review.
I read this comment earlier this morning, and I've been trying to remember if I've seen the original Naked Gun or not. I remember seeing some when I was younger. Great insight though! I'll check it out before I get to the dream montage in Threat Level Midnight.
Not the biggest JJ Abrams fan but I do like this episode. It was an interesting trip out of the regular office and I liked Pam’s character development where she finally dumps Roy for good.
You said in this video you don't know much what to do with the meaning of Dwight's storyline of checking the house of David Wallace. When I rewatched the episode, I kept in mind what you said, and I think I have a good theory. In this episode, everyone Is metaphorically checking and testing the foundations and solidity of their relationships to see if they have enough solidity to stand up. Michael and Jan, with their first public appearance together, Pam trying to convince Roy that some habits of him need to change in their new relationships, and Karen testing Jim's affection to her by making him jealous. Dwight connects with the theme of the episode by doing this test with Wallace's house, doing what others do metaphorically to one another. You need your house to be sure, and solid, just like your relationship, to avoid all crumbling apart in the future. That's how Dwight connect to the major storylines.
i could say this for a number of episodes but Dwight is just so fucking hilarious in this one! switching shirts with Michael so he wouldn’t look like a waiter, making David Wallace’s poor wife give him a full tour of their house, not only going up on the roof but going into their child’s bedroom and asking about his rocking chair. it’s just so bizarre yet so Dwight and it’s just awesome. I get what you’re saying about this episode not really standing out but I don’t think this was a waste for bringing in JJ Abrams; for the things I already said, for the interesting shots you mentioned in the video - literally anytime they would pan over to look at what Dwight was doing, i would DIE laughing. Being able to see the rest of the office go out to Poor Richards and have a good time before Pam tells Roy the truth and he gets all violent. i know i’m basically just summarizing the episode right now but i don’t know i just love this episode and think it’s one of the funniest episodes without being like too obviously funny. it brought us to new locations and i never got bored, which can happen sometimes when an entire episode takes place in primary one location.
Bro, I've watched LOST (start to finish) 9 times. My best time is 17 days and my worst time is just over 3 months... and YES, it totally holds up... timeless and for the ages ✨👌❤🙌
If I am remembering the episode correctly, I'm pretty sure the jet ski incident never actually happened, and it was just an excuse made up by Roy. I'm pretty sure Kenny just had no clue what Pam was talking about and brushed it off.
Yeah, that cliffhanger was a tough one. -------POSSIBLE SPOILERS---------------- But, similar to Buster suffering dismemberment on Arrested Development, I was hating what would come next, only to discover that it was awesome. The Buster situation lent itself to that show's great strength: loads of hidden gags, callbacks, call-forwards, etc. "I'm going to kill Jim Halpert!", where I spent those months dreading the promised mayhem, ended up leading to one of my favorites - thanks to Dwight's reaction and all that followed (esp. with Angela and Jim). Can't wait for that one to be reviewed!
You gave a spoiler warning but have been showing future gags and clips in past episodes. If someone watched this series along with the office for the first time a lot would be spoiled for them
I listened to the first few episodes. I have a thing with podcasts, but also I didn't want to be too influenced by how they do their weekly show. I tend to keep up with anything new they call out though.
I think pam wanted to bring Roy down after he said she could never get anything past him.. she wanted to prove that she could and there by telling Roy what he did not know,, and it was out of spite which is the worst part about it
That’s definitely an interesting theory homie, I never really considered that, but personally the only way I can see her doing that is if Roy cheated on or almost did during their relationship & she wanted to turn the tables & flex on him to show that this time their relationship is on equal footing & she has just as much power as him or whatever, cuz I can potentially see Roy being a cheater too, they do show alota affaires throughout the show as a reoccurring thing, so maybe he’d go to strip clubs with Darryl & the warehouse workers, cuz idk how Pam would feel about that & strip clubs, but I’d imagine if she’s cool with them she’d be going with him lol
It’s an example of her newfound honesty & courage (remember Gil & Oscar comments at the art show) somewhat backfiring on her when Roy gets mad. But it’s still the right thing for her to do in that it’s better that Roy hears it from her as opposed to someone else & they go forward living a lie.
I didn't see it that way. I think you need to rewatch the scene with find the quarter. Imo, she looks guilty when Roy says he knows everything about her. Bc she knows there's something he doesn't know. She genuinely wanted to have an honest relationship with Roy, but when he got mad, she realized he hadn't really changed
My absolute favorite moment in this episode is when a little boy wakes up to find Dwight rocking in the chair in his room, and Dwight just calmly say, "Oh, good, you're up."
I'm pretty sure Michael's ringtone is "My Humps" I feel like I can even hear the rest of the ringtone in my head.
i have a good feeling that there are more episodes where the ringtone plays out longer! I agree with you!
One example came to mind, the episode when they go to meet with David Wallace (M and Dwight) to convince him to not close Scranton's branch. At the end of the episode I think the ringtone plays out and Michael lets it because he wants to wait until he has good news to tell them!
It def is. I remember that one
I think you’re correct
I feel like it is my humps, maybe a foreshadowing for “the job”
Honestly I don't see this as a filler episode because of the ending of Pam and Roy's relationship. That's real plot development!
Ooh never caught how Dwight inspecting the foundations of the house was symbolism for the relationships! Brilliant!
Your editing skills keep getting better. Love these field guides. Can't wait until you've done every episode and I can watch them all in order.
Thanks Netherman! You've been in it with me for quite a while now!
These reviews are perfect for long time office fans

Also, there’s a deleted scene in the bar where Ryan runs into Stanley’s daughter again that’s hilarious
True! And it’ll be part of my weird Office theories video that’s coming up.
Mulverine Looking forward to it!

Yes, his ringtone is "My Humps" and I have the same ringtone😂

A year late: I think the ketchup fights are a reference to the Damon Wayans movie "Major Payne"
Good call, that scene where he's waiting on the train and has a vision/dream of him grilling at a house with a picket fence.
Yup, "my humps" by fergie. Michael even parodies it with "my stumps". I think this episode starts Jan's relationship with candles.
Dude do you know what filler episode means? It's not a filler episode when theres major plot developments.

I mean, let's be honest here. 90% of Abrams' stuff is half-baked garbage.
Lost sucks
This is the first time I've ever heard anyone willing say that Abrams is "talented" 😂😂😂😂
