Really hoping that we're not closing in on the end of this series as well considering Jank is gone. I know MBT said recently on stream that you guys were considering ending it once you hit the COVID era, but I think having a truly complete compendium with your dynamic up to current day would wrap a nice bow on it.
I wouldnt mind HOY being every other week if it comes back so cimo and joseph get more time each episode. Makes it easier on them and might help improve the quality of episodes.
Its incredible that you and cimo covered 2002 to 2020 in four years, brought to light multiple formats, revived edision, show off many decks and strategies and overall making a incredible entertaining and informative videos! Thank you, as well for giving me something to look forward to every Friday especially when I was in university.
In my opinion, History of Yu-Gi-Oh is one of the most important things that were ever conceived on yugitube. The fact that the ENTIRE history of the game is documented, narrated, described and olayed os fantastic and this seties does wonders for anyone who is interested in watching how the game has evolved. I love everything you and MBT have done for this game, always keep in mind that your dedication to this seties os really important and we will miss this format
I would be SO interested in having this series continue with the actual yugioh format. Each time a new format comes around, release a new episode with you guys playing a match that represents the current format
A post-format summary episode would be good, but for some formats, the deck diversity is too high for them to do just one episode. But hey, maybe that'd be fine. But I also think that, after a format that sucks, the last thing anyone wants to do is play more of it. So, while I hope they do it for the historical documentation angle, they probably won't want to lol
sadly there's a small detail, the amount of formats and decks that are left is a little too much, like 5 years of content too much, because of that they probably will never reach current date
I can't fault MBT and Cimo for needing a break - it's not like HoY is the only series/content they produce. That said, this series has been immensely educational for players who have only recently gotten into the game in understanding what people mean when they say stuff like Zoodiac was a tier 0 deck or how toxic the Gumblar era really was for the game. It's hard to really grasp why certain cards like ronintoadin exist on the F&L list today when examined in a vacuum until you see how easily they could be abused by FTKs (I still can't believe Konami needed to release Spright to realize that Ronin was way more degenerate than Substitoad). Both of you have revived my and so many others' love for Yugioh in a way that's hard to express. If it meant the series kept running, I wouldn't mind at all revisiting older/simpler formats and bringing the wheel back to show off how decks interacted when you didn't know exactly what the other was playing that week. But if a hiatus is what's needed to bring the series back later, then so be it. We just got a new JJ after an indefinite break so it's not like a hiatus is forever. Thank you both for all your hard work.
Since it's the end of History for a while, I would like to thank you both for all that you have done over the years. Having started to play around 2019-2020, your channel helped me get seriously into the game. This and prog gave me an understanding of all the weight of the cards that I read. Understand that many of what I thought was just packfiller instead played a signigicant role in the game's History. You are the one that gave me the motivation to start my own youtube channel and talk about Yu-Gi-Oh. I'll forever thank you for that !
Instead of straight up ending History of Ygo, I would take it to become monthly instead. If it’s not possible to keep it weekly, slowing down the pacing but keeping the series would be the best of both worlds. Not to mention you guys covered a huge part of ygo’s history in 4 years, so there’s only 4 years left to cover before it catches up to current days. So recording monthly would make it so that it doesn’t catch up so fast.
I would vote for it to be every other week, so we don't forget where they are. Every week would still last for 6 months give 9fr take so every 2 weeks would make it last most of a year even if they skipped over or quickly through the next several months of 2020.😊
@@Seawolf.Gaming we've already seen hoy in the tcg. I don't what else they would do to revisit it and institute funny ideas, but I'm open to possible speculation. On the other hand if you're thinking that they could do hoy in the ocg, well guess what? They are. They just released the first episode today! Go watch it and enjoy and rejoice, for we have more hoy and also to make matters better, Joseph is back too!😂😎😁🤩
I think it's actually genius that Cimo and MBT are going to take a break from HOY, because not only did they already make amazing content with this series highlighting all these historical formats alongside so much more well deserving of a break, but it's also actually representative of Yugioh during 2020 for them to have no events for a pretty long while, so Cimo is being historically accurate here. Fantastic Job covering these formats!
I came back to comment that I really hope you guys do reboot this series up and continue on from this point. Some of the most powerful cards ever printed come out shortly after this, and this really opens up to what is now modern yugioh. Eldlich, Accesscode, Dinosaurs, Droplet, Talents, Dogamatika, Branded, Drytron, Tri-Brigade and so many more are on the horizon. This is when I really dove back in much deeper into yugioh (after merely collecting again from 2017-late 2020). Bring it back!
This was definitely a fun episode. It’s nice that you guys are taking a break from this series for a while in order to do even more research to better understand the decks that will come fruition as well as how to pilot them…because the decks that come to light from 2020 to now are definitely crazy. Can’t wait till you guys come back to this series after this hiatus, because I know you will make it worth it. Keep on creating amazing content.
I have watched this series from week 1 and just realized it has really been 4 years since the first episode. Honestly, this is how I was introduced to MBT and his content! You guys have done an amazing job with this show and have full green light to do as you see fit. Good luck to you both in the Vegas 3v3 this season! I look forward to hearing about it
I hope you and Joseph continue to do another collab series like History and Jank in the future, I've always enjoyed the dynamic you two have of bouncing off one another with varying degrees of silliness and seriousness depending on who's piloting what deck. Either way, History has been such a fun ride, and I'm happy I was here for it.
I do hope you come back to 2020 Yugioh at some point, specifically because your Crush Card Cup was the primary competitive event for a couple of months, and I think it'd be interesting another glance at your own tournament 4 years later. Also, it would be interesting to see you play some PPG decks with your own banlist.
I would be glad to have history of yugioh once a month if needed to meet their schedules properly just pls finish the series and maybe even bring it back for current formats as they evolve I’ve learned so much from this show I learned how to build optimal decks without even really knowing I was learning something I was just having fun watching you guys
Hope We get more History of Yu-Gi-Oh! I always look forward to these, especially since I don't play much competitive and learning about the past of the game has been so much fun!!
LOVED this format (I'm a dino player and it was basically the best deck at the time since most people hadn't figured out Dragon Link as much and it had a GREAT match up against Spyral and Shaddoll)
One of the best series of all time, no matter what it possibly looks like going forward if at all, I can't thank you enough for the work you two put into it. Watching you guys play some of my favorite formats like HAT was amazing and getting to learn about the games in my playtime was awesome. Of course I'd love you to continue but absolutely do so in whatever form you guys find most manageable - something like once a month would be great still.
i know Dragon Link is a more iconic deck, but for this format i really wouldve rather liked to see Danger-Lunalight against Spyral, as Lunalight was at the top of this meta together with Spyral and it was the last format before Tiger got banned as a result, together with Master Plan.
Lunalight combos suck to play and play against. Plus lunalight is a deck that doesn’t work in real yugioh because the combo causes you to lose in time.
I don't mean to be insulting but MBT didn't play this all that well either. I never touched Lunalight but it doesn't look easier than Dragon Link, so I wonder whether this would have had the effect you imagine.
Bon voyage Historic, I spent my lockdown watching and consuming yugioh content and History was one of them, I've enjoyed learning about all the various formats over the years, and it feels right to stop at this period of time, so thanks Cimo and MBT
I really hope that the next video, whenever yall decide to do this, is a remote duel styled video to really get into the times of 2020. It would be so funny.
Besides the Crossbanlist Cup, this series had the biggest influence on my entire YGO collection. This revival of all old formats caused that I now basically own every meta relevant Deck until the mid of 2018 (I'm not the biggest fan of Link and rather bought other cards than completing TOSS, maybe in the future) Before HoY and the discovery of the CBC I had like 5 decks which being stuck in 2016. Even if this series had many illegal plays etc., I always enjoyed watching it. Just want to say thank you for your work. I really hope that you will continue the HoY someday. Tbh I was expecting at least one COVID episode with Eldlich vs Adamancipators, the best deck that never existed.
No way, this is my favorite Yugioh series… I was hoping it would at least continue until you caught up to the current format. But it is what it is. Thank you so much for the very interesting insights. It was especially interesting to see the formats during the times when I didn’t play.
Both History and Jank have been important parts of my life over the past 3 and a half years. During a time where my life was volatile and uncertain, I took to my childhood to provide some semblance of stability and my love for Yu-gi-oh was the one constant that followed me through out my life. Without the History of Yu-gi-oh, I would not have rekindled my love for this game and for that, I thank both Alex and Joseph greatly. I hope History can continue at a later date when the YGO community needs it the most.
I understand this series needs a break/might be gone. I'm not ok with it, but I understand it is the way of things. I just want to thank you both. This series took me to my first locals. Back in 2020 RUclips recommended some LawYGO duel links histories, love those so much, and I figured I would check and see how the real game had changed. I looked for a few documentary style chronologies and instead ended up here. I've had a blast learning the game properly, rekindling play with my brother like we are still kids, and am psyched to find a way to keep up with my new pet decks at locals. Thank you both, loved this show and am psyched to see more of what you put out next!
I love this series. I’m going to miss the chemistry between these 2 fellas, the misplays, the information this show provides about the history of yugioh. This series had it all… I hope it comes back soon but I also understand these guys need a break. Smell ya later history of yugioh I enjoyed every second of it
Since HOY is over I think we need a Best of the whole series compilation. Featuring such amazing moments as the "You need exactly Megamorph, a normal summon, reborn, and some way to get rid of swords" "Anyway I'm gonna MST Swords and reborn your goblin attack force" moment. The Evil Dragon Anatana moment. The moment where Crush Card lost Cimo the game, the Cyber Dragon Contact fuse against Wind Up. There really are so many great moments in this series. Maybe we could have a History of Jank/Yu-Gi-Oh rebirth where every other week it's one of them but going back to the start of Yu-Gi-Oh and doing the series over again with new matchups and stuff.
Idea for your next series: Regression Series, a series where every card you use is getting banned for you going forwards, this will force interesting strategies and gameplay. You can make it less drastic, for example only banning 5 cards that your opponents choses, or the loser choses which cards to ban. The main idea is to keep reducing the pool of available cards, in order to force new strategies or archetypes that have never seen the light of the day because other cards were overshadowing them.
I agree this is a good place to pause. I've seen other people suggest History be every other week. We are getting close to current format so eventually History will have to end. Although, it would be cool to see History get a new episode every like 3 months or something to show what the format was like. I think this hiatus is really making everyone realize that this show will have to wrap up at some point.
Mbt describes covid era yugioh as the end of yugioh I can't disagree more, for me and many others Covid was peak Yu-gi-oh, I started playing Yugioh because of the Pandemic, because of the free time to explore hobby The social aspect was still there but not physical, 2020 was the year I enjoyed more the game playing it online, watching videos and the anime, and hanging out in discord
I would love to see this series continue, even if its like a once a month series so you more slowly catch up and have the time to research and learn the more complicated metas. I want to see the Tear 0 format so bad lol.
Really hope History sticks around to cover the lost formats through 2020, and onward tbh. This os my favorite series on the channel, and it'd be seriously sad to see it go without finishing it up. covering those lost formats in 2020 and building a chronological compendium of them to an extent seems really important too, seeing as they arent really recorded as easily elsewhere, especially with no organized play. really hope yall consider continuing the series
Depending how long the hiatus will last and the complexity you’d have to overcome it would be cool to see a weekly tournament of the formats you will cover, pure deck lists from the period then you can have other people rep the deck and your side would get points or some sort of prize
I know Game 3 was really jank, but I think it encapsulates how back then and even today a lot of these matches and decks aren't just "win die roll" games. The amount of back and forth handtraps and boardbreakers can result in really awkward game states, and the pacing slows down tremendously, creating for a lot of unique gameplay that extends well beyond turn 2 and 3. If this is truly the end of History, you guys did such a great job of not only capturing great YuGiOh moments in time, but also providing us with highly entertaining videos and banter. I really hope you guys continue doing this series, but if not, I just wanted to let you know History and Jank gave me something to look forward to every Tuesday and Friday!
I love History of YuGiOh! I think it would be cool to collaborate with the players who made top 32 with these decks. Either with coaching or have you both narrate them playing the decks. Not sure on the behind the scenes but that could improve the workload. Even if the episodes come out less frequently.
Man, I was not emotionally prepared for MBTs retelling of the covid eras beginnings. It hurt my heart in a way I was not ready for. It seems so fresh in my mind and a million years ago all at the same time
I think if you had to end this series somewhere, I think 2023 AGOV format would have been a great spot. It's probably the most fun modenr format in a long time and there's a ton to explore. From 2020 to Fire King AGOV provably woukd give you guys an additional 6 months of stuff.
While I'll miss HOY, I think it'd be interesting to do some episodes on how time wizard formats changed over time as well. Showing the innovations and evolution that led to modern GOAT, Edison, HAT, etc. to become what they are. Could even throw in other alternate formats like common charity, N/R in MD, maybe even Speed Duels/Duel Links (not sure if that last one is possible on a simulator though)
Thank you both for giving us something to look forward to every week. The History and Progression videos are incredibly entertaining. I do hope History isn't gone entirely - that would be a big blow to the channel imo with Jank ending as well. Spread it out more or pick it back up in six months. Whatever you gotta do.
Id love to see this series become a monthly occurrence. Ive had trouble keeping up with the weekly upload schedule with all the other projects going on anyways. Please dont let this be the end to history.
I do hope when HOY starts back up we revisit dragon link around toon chaos where it has a million one card starters and ends up running 60 cards with smoke grenade and other crazy stuff mixed in.
1:02 MBT's Deck: Dragon Link (and the announcement of a hiatus) 7:12 Cimooo's Deck: Magicians' S.P.Y.R.A.L 11:44 Game 1 21:49 Game 2 28:00 Game 3 28:42 the moment you knew, this game 3 was gonna be the best duel of the match
Shunping Xu was my goddamn hero when this tournament happened. I'd been playing Rokkets since before the structure deck, and I always felt like a crazy conspiracy theorist whenever I talked about how crazy they were as a midrange deck post-CHIM. and in comes Xu going undefeated and winning the final UDS with this list, soooooooo sick!
While it stinks the series must end for now, It was great seeing yugiohs varied history and seeing the game evolve. Your coverage gave many alt formats a good spotlight and hopefully with the new time wizard formats, they'll continue to grow.
Although the games weren't the most riveting, this was a decent note to end on. SPYRAL Magicians' Souls is probably the only combo deck that I actively enjoy playing. The topdeck control aspect of the deck is really cool, especially with Drone recently back to 3 making the deck really adept at making rank 1 and 4 xyz for things like Redoer to get even more off of that stacking. The only deck that'll get me to play Master Duel after the Floo overhits and the most recent pot hits, even if its Maxx C matchup is horrible
I didn't even finish to watch but the line game 2 was Quadborrel effect to bring back Recharger and Tracer, effect of Tracer and make both the Synchro 8
I really hope they talk about the PPG incident, I think that’d be both the funniest and the most interesting ending to the series, with the biggest direct hand that MBT and Cimo had on the History of Yugioh
@@weirdsweetcoolplants they alluded to it during the Nekroz format episodes surrounding ARG, but basically in the first few months of COVID, PPG hosted a series of online tournaments with Cimo and MBT as the hosts. The format was insanely broken, with Adamancipators and Eldlich completely dominating the format, and the first banlist did nothing to address the current format since, from Konami’s perspective, there weren’t any events anyway. In response, PPG released a custom list which caused a massive community firestorm (and iirc created basically a tier zero Altergeist format).
Take your time, guys! But I really hope the series will be back. Im actually part of thousands who started playing this game during the pandemics in May 2020. I remember how I hated Borreload Savage. It was everywhere.

What's Cimo's "solution" on how to get caught up with "modern YU-GI-OH?" play the top level dragon deck from 5 years ago 🤮
That or just redo the series/ do missed matchups, there are still so many deck (variants) unexplored. let alone the amount of different matchups

Without the History of Yu-gi-oh, I would not have rekindled my love for this game and for that, I thank both Alex and Joseph greatly. I hope History can continue at a later date when the YGO community needs it the most.
Literally the best episode in the year and I think it would be really cool for them to have a remote duel
Oh boy, we’re about to enter the irl Crush Card Virus arc of the History of Yugioh. I wonder how the intro to that will turn out
DRAGONS NEVER DIE LETS GO!!!
This show really shows the full spectrum of experiences in this format
This series had it all…
I hope it comes back soon but I also understand these guys need a break.
Smell ya later history of yugioh I enjoyed every second of it
When Halq is released Cimo should play Dino FTK with Bishbulkin
Amazing series, it's been quite a ride.
Going to miss this and jank. Easily the best duo, and i love you guys working together
Ironically this was around the end of my time playing Yu-Gi-Oh, specifically in person. I still have my Ignition Assault prerelease mat
Damn boi, my fav deck is getting a light of shine ? Never thought I will see the day
Since HOY is over I think we need a Best of the whole series compilation.
I really miss the Jank episodes already, really. I honestly think that you could alternate between Jank and History at Fridays.
Mbt describes covid era yugioh as the end of yugioh
I can't disagree more, for me and many others Covid was peak Yu-gi-oh, I started playing Yugioh because of the Pandemic, because of the free time to explore hobby
The social aspect was still there but not physical, 2020 was the year I enjoyed more the game playing it online, watching videos and the anime, and hanging out in discord
WE WANT HISTORY OF YU-GI-OH BACK
I would love to see this series continue, even if its like a once a month series so you more slowly catch up and have the time to research and learn the more complicated metas.
Game 1 11:46
Game 2 21:49
Game 3 27:58
Dragon Link is probably the greatest deck of all time. It has been tier 1/1.5 since 2019. 5 YEARS STRAIGHT. If that ain't the goat idk who is.
Revolver had the most badass deck in VRAINS, period.
@@cameraredeye3115hot guy playing a hot deck. What more could we ask for
I know Game 3 was really jank, but I think it encapsulates how back then and even today a lot of these matches and decks aren't just "win die roll" games.
Weird that they didnt mention the massacre Jan 2020 list
Ah yes - the era when an errata'd card was Tier 0. . . . .
It seems so fresh in my mind and a million years ago all at the same time
History of bank is done?!?! What?! I love that series! Stil so many jank decks!
This has been my favorite yugioh series for quite some time now
I would love if you would continue at some pount after the break
I love this series so much
I think if you had to end this series somewhere, I think 2023 AGOV format would have been a great spot.
Yeah and with little to no warning as well......😢
Id love to see this series become a monthly occurrence.
1:02 MBT's Deck: Dragon Link (and the announcement of a hiatus) 7:12 Cimooo's Deck: Magicians' S.P.Y.R.A.L
11:44 Game 1
21:49 Game 2
28:00 Game 3 28:42 the moment you knew, this game 3 was gonna be the best duel of the match
Awwww I was hoping that we would get lunalight time thief.
Good stuff regardless, sad to see it go.
4 years and dragon link is still going. Truly one of the decks of all time.
Hearing MBT describe how the Covid pandemic began, it makes me want to hear him describe other historical events throughout time.
17:51 Hearing a yugituber pronounce Recital Starling correctly for once was so startling it nearly gave me whiplash.
This series is important for preserving yugioh history, please cover all the formats until you reach the current format.
Also quadborrel requires a rocket monster . . .
Rest in peas HoY. You will very much be missed
this is the 4 series the cimo close, the big problem is that is never tell to us why.
While it stinks the series must end for now, It was great seeing yugiohs varied history and seeing the game evolve. Your coverage gave many alt formats a good spotlight and hopefully with the new time wizard formats, they'll continue to grow.
Bro I need more. I need up to current day
If we don't get a history of Yu-Gi-Oh where we focus on the genesis of progression series I will scream. Such a cornerstone of COVID era Yu-Gi-Oh
I think that is the first time I seen Dragon Link bricking like that
Bring back History, I beg 😭I wanna learn about 2020-2024
I didn't even finish to watch but the line game 2 was Quadborrel effect to bring back Recharger and Tracer, effect of Tracer and make both the Synchro 8
I would love to see more from this series.
I really hope they talk about the PPG incident, I think that’d be both the funniest and the most interesting ending to the series, with the biggest direct hand that MBT and Cimo had on the History of Yugioh
Want to explain that in a little more detail to people who are not in the know?
@@weirdsweetcoolplants they alluded to it during the Nekroz format episodes surrounding ARG, but basically in the first few months of COVID, PPG hosted a series of online tournaments with Cimo and MBT as the hosts. The format was insanely broken, with Adamancipators and Eldlich completely dominating the format, and the first banlist did nothing to address the current format since, from Konami’s perspective, there weren’t any events anyway. In response, PPG released a custom list which caused a massive community firestorm (and iirc created basically a tier zero Altergeist format).
Shout out to the OG circular, Magician souls let’s go!
once they finished the "hiatus," they would cover the infamous "coming" of two purple boys...
Dark Dragoon and DPE
(and yeah, E L D L I C H)
Man I really hope this isn’t the end. I love this series and would hate to see it drop before modern day, especially with no more Jank
We need to practice these spyral combos you had trig ate gryphon lock
Well....shit.
Edit: It was fun while it lasted. I literally don't watch anything else from Cimoooooooo and MBT besides history and jank.
I've never seen someone out-brick Spyral before
I figured we'd have to wait until VW came out to see that
Almost at the point where this series began, October 2020.
Take your time, guys! But I really hope the series will be back. Im actually part of thousands who started playing this game during the pandemics in May 2020. I remember how I hated Borreload Savage. It was everywhere.
