Yep. Def a cool update. The eq is really the icing on the cake, now you can really dial in the tones. And so far it hasn’t taken much. Just 1-3db here and there.
Yeah I can’t believe how versatile this amp was BEFORE the update. Now it’s off the charts with the EQ. After everyone agreed the amp was bass heavy I’m glad we can adjust that now
@@davidlane147 the bass heavy part killed it for me, luckily I had a G&L start that could put the bass/treble down. But my les Paul was just blowing up the place haha
@@Yoshidoesit I was playing last night and switched to a channel without the EQ that I had previously convinced myself it sounded great. I couldn’t believe how freaking muddy and bassy it was lol
Updated today and I love the guitar EQ pedal- very useful to help tame that bloomy, overblown bass and add some overall definition. One thing that bugs me about the Spark is that when you change amps, it does not retain your settings- it starts at that amp's default settings and you have to go through everything. So say if I want to compare two clean amps with the same EQ settings, i have to go through and touch every control after switching amps. Seems like something they could address in a future update.
I just got my new Spark last Friday and ran the update about an hour ago. I definitely love the options, tones and surprising power of this little amp. I have yet to fiddle around with the new amps and pedals, but will provide comments after I do that. Thanks for the heads-up on the update!!
The new Peavey amp is sick. It’s very balanced so you can play high gain chords and it’s still very clear. It also works well for solos because it doesn’t wash out the low end
I’ve had my spark for almost a year. I’ve been extremely happy with it but with this update it just keeps getting better! Amazed with the versatility of this inexpensive amp
This amp has really come a long way !! I remember recommending it to a friend of mine. When he brought it to my place, I didn't like it at all. Everything was unrefined and not feeling right. And now I decided to give this amp a chance and I am really impressed. Positive Grid has really improved the amp. The hum/buzzing is gone, the app is better, the amps, everything sound better. The EQ pedal is the salvation of this amp. This is one of the best investment I have made. I hope Positive Grid will keep the good work and continue to innovate. They have found a golden nugget !!
That 6508 blew me away with your vintage pickups, man insane. It would sound out of this world with my Jackson w/EMG's/ O F R bridge. I'm gonna look into one of these for home practice. Thanks Darrell!
Hi Darrell! Your channel is new to me and this is my first vid by you. I subscribed after only after several minutes because I LIKE everything about your personality and delivery style. I'm SO fed up of tubers who waste my time with too much SHOWING OFF when what I'm there for is to get as much varied demonstration as I can. To showcase different sounds you stuck to simple playing. I didn't feel hopelessly less skilled than you because you were sticking your shred hero prowess in my face. You played your test runs like I would: I could easily see myself putting each effect through it's paces in the same slow, selective, discovery-oriented playing that you did. You played IN MY PLACE for me, and I thank you for that. I'm going to enjoy your channel because you're not making it ABOUT YOU. You're coming from a place of joy in discovery. Which is what every guitar player enjoys most about both learning something new and in trying out new gear. Thanks for remaining one of us and walking by our side, rather than waving gold medals at us from the finish line.
Luv these Spark videos! Got one for XMAS for the wife (beginner) and I’ve played the heck outta’ that little bugger. So much good stuff in these amps. I have 45 years of analog gear (and I mean a LOT!!!) but I have to setup an entire rig to get my analog fix, or I have to hook up a modeler (Helix floor, or AXE FXIII, AX8, or FM9) in order to jam at home. All of my analog gear is 50 watts, or more. So, having a little guy like this makes a big difference in just playing for a few minutes, but not having to setup and take down any of my rigs… I guess what it boils down to is, I had better get my own because my wife is transfixed on the amp too!!! lol 😂 Thanks again Darrell, for another great video!!! Best! ✌🏼 ***Stashman***
The new cabs sound fantastic but the EQ is what I've been waiting for, really helps dial in the tones. Hoping the PG engineers will one day let us fiddle with the effects chain but I'm still loving my Sparky!
ive been messing with the new amps and man its such a great update! youd be surprised on how much you can get with a peavey, a few blues amps, real eq, and a klon...theres a lot of rigs that can be made with just that, let alone the others!
I love my Spark. I'm not a pro by any means, just a hobby player and it does everything I need it to do and then some. Great product especially for the price.
I've got Spark for almost 3 months, haven't really played with the settings that much so far. But what I can say for certain, Spark is the amp I've been looking for for the last 30 years. Finally I got an amp which I can use with very low volume and still sounds great. I only wish it had a switch pedal to flip between channels, but am certain it will be added on when Spark II goes to production and as a bounce it will addition 150$. I know there is a self made pedal guide, but I don't fancy doing the required modification, at least not for now.
30 years and youve been waiting for this? Ok. Well i have been playing over 40 and use a Yamaha thr 10 ll but honestly i got better tones out of my mesa mark v 35 and 90 at the same volumes. Had a katana mkii as well. Mesa kicked it's ass.
Just loaded my patch and updated the SW. Like the new pedals and really appreciate Darrell's review on these! I think the EQ pedal was designed to get everybody to cool down on the bass heavy characteristic of the Spark amp. Long overdue I suppose.
This is a fantastic update for the Spark! The Clone Drive is exceptional! I normally play with a TubeScreamer-esque in front all the time but now not necessary :-) Great video as always!
I didn't get a notification for this. Anyway, thanks for the great demo, I will download it soon. Have had my Spark for over a year now and love it. I play it live at family party's and get togethers and works really well for that. That new wireless pedal will be an excellent addition to it. Just wish PG would come out with a spring reverb update.
I've been getting to know mine for about 2 weeks now. I'm no pro but I love it. It's amazing what you can learn just from using this amp. I will say that I don't like going wireless with it so I use a cable almost always but that may be my wireless system. And I can't believe! the over all powerful sound it puts out.
Based on your original review you convinced me to buy one. The Spark is FANTASTIC! This new update is awesome! I lost part of today by playing the Spark and having FUN! Thanks for the recommendation and my lost time! 🤘🎸
What a great amp for home or beginners. I’m considering this for my grandson. Love your guitar is there an opportunity to order one? The looks and sounds are fantastic.
get him a fender mustang lt25. I have it and the Spark and it's a lot better. The Spark sounds very muddy in person and the hardware is very buggy and frustrating
Very cool Darrell !!! I wish you could do a review of Ceriatone Amplifiers. Absolute works of art and some of the best tones I’ve experienced in an amplifier that will not drain your wallet. A lot of “Bang for the Buck” with Ceriatone and they have styles from Fenders, Dumbles, Marshall’s, Trainwrecks, etc. all of them are hand-wired and worth every penny! Thanks again Darrell for another killer Spark video! (I luv playing my wife’s! lol) Best! ✌🏼
Darrell, can you please do some Ceriatone amplifier demos??? They’re some of the best hand-wired amps, with features that we’ve been asking for, for decades! Please please please… the Ceriatone OTS Mini 20 (Dumble style) they’re absolutely incredible! So good, that I don’t think about too many other amp MFG’s these days. And the prices are FANTASTIC!!! I’d luv to see some stuff from them and demo’d by YOU! 🔥🔥🔥 Best! ✌🏼
Nice to have an eq at last to reduce that dreaded low end on the Spark. But they need to update the firmware and address the bass issue so that backing tracks don’t shake the house.
OK, I'm sold. I'm getting a spark. If it's as good as it sounds in your reviews, I'm selling off my Peavey mini head and cabinet. I'm a bedroom player and don't need a lot of gear 🙂
This would be perfect if it had a line out. I would like to be able to set up all the effects and bring it to gig with a PA. Since it doesn't I will look else where.
Well said and we'll done my friend 👏👍... As always, straight up informative and USEFUL information! Keep em' coming! God bless and take care my brotha'...(and brothers & sisters!) Lol...
Roll the gain right down on the pedal when using the hi-gain amp. That's a clean boost: sustain and bite for days. You really do not need to add any more gain...
If anybody has an issue with no sound from amp after update on a Windows system, redo the update and make sure you use the eject option in the firmware update app.
The new graphic EQ is awesome. I can dial out that slightly boxy tone I sometimes get on the Spark and makes it sound much more like a full size cab. Just remember to disable it if you go to headphones as it will sound unnatural with it on. Also, the new "Peavey" style amp is great.
Spring reverb yet? I love my Spark, don't get me wrong. It things all the things that people say it things. But the lack of spring reverb has always puzzled me. BIAS FX has a decent usable one, so why not the Spark? (Plus I just got a Laney cub supertop and am in love with it. It also plays "cranked" sounds at bedroom volumes -- though in a much more limited range of tones.)
Very cool little amp, I am a shameless tube junky but I have to admit that was some good tone. On a completely non related note, I always check out your wall of guitars during the videos and on this one I noticed a D’angelico. I love my D’angelico acoustics but have never played one of their electrics, has that guitar on your rack ever been reviewed? Would be really interested in your take.
I have the spark and wasn't using it much because it sounded too dark to me. It isn't much more work to hook up my little Super-Champ x2 which sounds great. The fact that there is an EQ in the patch may give my spark new life, so I will give it another shot. If I didn't have the little Fender amp though the spark would have seen more air-time.
Theoretically, all you would need to do is get a headphone to instrument patch cord and run the Spark into a powered cabinet like you would a Kemper then the Spark can be as loud as you need it to be. The downside is that the eq settings used for the onboard stereo combo speakers will not sound the same and your patches would need to be tweaked for the powered cabinet that you intend to use for stage performances. In comes the true beauty of the tone cloud app you can have patches labeled for that sound profile using the combo speakers and then a tweaked patch for gigging with the powered cabinet. Where there is a will there is a way. This is also where the new update with a usable EQ section becomes imperative so that you can tweak a 400w powered 2x12 or 4x10 cabinet to sound the same as the combo by scooping and bumping the Highs, mids, and lows. Just a thought of how to take the little gem and make it an all in one head unit for rocking the hotel room between shows and pummeling full blown arenas later that evening. It would be no different than using a Marshall head unit that you have dialed in for a stock Marshall cab and then plugging it into a 5150 cab; you are going to have to tweak your settings to get as close as possible to the same sound. Wish I had a Spark I would test the theory myself. As long as you are not asking it to drive the speakers using its power section itself I do not think it should be a problem, I have seen people hook the headphone out of an mp3 player to a powered cab and it worked so I do not see why this would not do the same.
it crushes anything in its class for $250. It is a practice amp but just having it as a bluetooth speaker, it is worth the price alone. Sounds way better than my Katana 50
I've said it before but the Spark is the best practice amp I've owned... I use it daily. In fact, it's one of the best sounding amps I've owned, period. And that Klon clone pedal is shockingly good sounding and useful.
just got mine in today. I love it and can't wait to get some more time with it tomorrow. only wish they had a o3fak to turn on and off effects without having to stop playing and click on it with your phone or tablet. otherwise this thing is incredible!
"Massive update" ? Wasn't the expectation that PG would provide fairly regular updates to software and firmware ? Does the new EQ work with other other included virtual pedals ? Thanks for the enjoyable review.
I read in another YT video's comments that if you remove the speaker grille from the Spark and stuff a couple of socks in the bass reflex "hole" on the bottom of the unit it alleviates the "too much bass" problem. I wish I'd know this before I sold my unit.
I am a regular customer and I love it. I don't have the luxury to buy a bunch of pedals or expensive amps so I love the amount of tones I can get from a 225 dollar amp. Plus the new EQ pedal really improves it so much.
It’s not a bad amp, it’s just way overhyped and doesn’t have the same rich tones as some of the other practice amps. For the price, it’s decent. If you’re willing to spend a bit more, you get much better sounds from amps like the Yamaha THR10X, THR10 II etc.
@@jaimecucalon2804 AMEN Jaime! I'm with you on this one... I'm on Social Security Disability and had to sell 10's of Thousands of dollars 💵 worth of gear waiting for my Disability case to clear... This little guy is worth it's weight in gold! It not only puts all of these GTREAT tones in my price range, it does it without taking up an extra bedroom! Lol... God bless and take care man...
That sounds really good. Are you running that into a recorder, Or is it miked up in the room? Almost every review that praised the Spark, the review had it running directly into their recorder and didn't display any room tones. Probably because they were super muddy and flabby like my experience with the amp. I SO wanted to love it but the sound was horrible. Did they fix the muddy low end sound issues with this patch... is that what the EQ is supposed to address?
This is what I want to know every time I watch a video of this amp - it sounds so much better than my experience with it, so I'm thinking they're recording direct rather than room.
Curious if / how this update has addressed the overall bass-heavy or muddy tone that was reported by your review of the earlier unit (and many others)... I've just ordered one on sale, but more than a little apprehensive that it seems like clean, bright tones are a serious challenge.
I wish they would have added the Ampeg SVT for Bass. As a bass player that's the amp I am really missing. For guitar it would be great if they would add a Tom Scholz Rockman Sound. I know this is not an amp, so it could also be a pedal to get that distinctive tone.
Been with the Spark pretty much since day one. If there is a better home amp on the market please tell me. It does what it says on the tin. The new stuff is great.
I've yet to get the update since I can't get to my computer but I'm SO excited for that Overdrive Special, I typically run all my amps at full volume on the Spark then set whatever output I want from there just so I can get as much life out of it as I can at whatever volume I want. Also odd choice to play Pride and Joy on the Blues Jr but not the ODS considering the song was recorded on an ODS 😂
Not any positive reviews. I guess that is why they put the word "positive" in it's name. It is designed to be bought on impulse. That is why they don't bother to fix the bugs.
Hello Darrell, Steve here in Sydney Australia My Children just gave me some money to buy the spark amp for my birthday yesterday (i am very excited as i have wanted one for a while now) Just wanted to check is there still just the one model available i dont want to purchase an older model,,,, and when you mention the new spark amp is that just a firmware update or are there new hardware features added to the amp could you let me know as soon as you can i want to buy it asap ... thanks mate
Covid is hurting my busking opportunities but it has given me time to check out ways to lighten my load. NUX B-3 vs Xvive U-3 Wireless Mic Systems - Which is Best for a gut playing on the corner or pier. Could you do a review like this. A guy with a guitar and a microphone.
I love you’re vids, I’m so addicted to them, But I was wondering do AMP’S making the guitar sound different, like any other brands of it like fender or black star?
Sounds really great on the video. Question: on real life sounds as great as in your channel? Thanks in advance! Great channel with awesome contents! Congratulations!
I hope the update also fixed some of the recording bugs. I bought a Spark earlier this year and still am happy with it as a practice amp but when I use the USB to record on my computer...sound comes out all wonky. Lots of other people have this issue with the Spark as well. I had to go back and use my old Zoom pedal as an interface to record with. Might have bought the Yamaha THR had I known about it. Just a fair warning to anyone that is looking to buy a Spark and record with it via USB.
You've probably already tried this, but it's worth doing a factory reset on the amp & also uninstalling and re-installing the ASIO driver. That fixed the weirdness for me.
@@BordersJambo Yeah, I previously tried factory reset and updating the amp and drivers. I'll try to reinstall everything again if this latest update doesn't do anything.

Thank you! I will update my Spark😊
OMG love the new amps !!!!! this is such a great, fun amp. just love mine
Loved that first one
I have the spark and wasn't using it much because it sounded too dark to me. It isn't much more work to hook up my little Super-Champ x2 which sounds great. The fact that there is an EQ in the patch may give my spark new life, so I will give it another shot. If I didn't have the little Fender amp though the spark would have seen more air-time.
Those tones are insane
Hey Positive Grid...MAKE A STAGE MODEL! GROW THE SPARK TO FLAME SIZE.
👀
It really just needs a cab tbh
😂😂😂 you want pod in a box for a 4x12?
it crushes anything in its class for $250. It is a practice amp but just having it as a bluetooth speaker, it is worth the price alone. Sounds way better than my Katana 50
Thnaks for all your content. What's you think about the katana air ? Thumbs up from North Africa
Great vid bro👏🏾👏🏾
Thanks!
Darrell - you're killing me. You're making me get a Spark 🤣🤣
That won't kill you - it'll enrich your life. ;)
Would love to see a “speaker out” jack on the back of this amp.
That would probably be illigal but hella awesome🤩
"Massive update" ? Wasn't the expectation that PG would provide fairly regular updates to software and firmware ?
Does the new EQ work with other other included virtual pedals ?
Thanks for the enjoyable review.
I didn't even realize all this new stuff was there. I've got some playing around to do now.
Hi Darrell, what do you think of the new Spark foot switch? Maybe you can do a video of it in the future.
I read in another YT video's comments that if you remove the speaker grille from the Spark and stuff a couple of socks in the bass reflex "hole" on the bottom of the unit it alleviates the "too much bass" problem. I wish I'd know this before I sold my unit.
The beautified thing is that you can pick up a laptop battery and the whole thing is completely portable!
You should do a video on one of those acrylic light-up Stratocaster Style guitar
Thank you for your video, it was very helpful in aiding my decision whether or not to purchase the Sparks Amp.
Every online guitar guru says they love this thing, but the actual reviews from regular customers seem to be the opposite. Something is fishy.
I am a regular customer and I love it. I don't have the luxury to buy a bunch of pedals or expensive amps so I love the amount of tones I can get from a 225 dollar amp. Plus the new EQ pedal really improves it so much.
Hmm, I read a great many positive reviews from users.
This thing is a tremendous value and if you don't ever plan on playing live it's perfect for goofing off at all. Worth every penny
Still have to get around to doing this update
That sounds really good. Are you running that into a recorder, Or is it miked up in the room? Almost every review that praised the Spark, the review had it running directly into their recorder and didn't display any room tones. Probably because they were super muddy and flabby like my experience with the amp. I SO wanted to love it but the sound was horrible. Did they fix the muddy low end sound issues with this patch... is that what the EQ is supposed to address?
This is what I want to know every time I watch a video of this amp - it sounds so much better than my experience with it, so I'm thinking they're recording direct rather than room.
I like the Blues jr and the Klon!
Curious if / how this update has addressed the overall bass-heavy or muddy tone that was reported by your review of the earlier unit (and many others)... I've just ordered one on sale, but more than a little apprehensive that it seems like clean, bright tones are a serious challenge.
There is a master EQ stage/setting in the main settings, I think that does it.
I wish they would have added the Ampeg SVT for Bass. As a bass player that's the amp I am really missing. For guitar it would be great if they would add a Tom Scholz Rockman Sound. I know this is not an amp, so it could also be a pedal to get that distinctive tone.
That’s a nice guitar… is it a fender?
Picked one of these up after watching your review about 8 times 😂
Congrats!
I guess I'll dust mine off and see if the patch makes it sound any better
Been with the Spark pretty much since day one. If there is a better home amp on the market please tell me. It does what it says on the tin. The new stuff is great.
I've yet to get the update since I can't get to my computer but I'm SO excited for that Overdrive Special, I typically run all my amps at full volume on the Spark then set whatever output I want from there just so I can get as much life out of it as I can at whatever volume I want. Also odd choice to play Pride and Joy on the Blues Jr but not the ODS considering the song was recorded on an ODS 😂
Is there any non sponsored reviews of this amp?
Not any positive reviews. I guess that is why they put the word "positive" in it's name. It is designed to be bought on impulse. That is why they don't bother to fix the bugs.
Here's one - it's a pretty good amp for apartment use with some decent sounds.
Oooooooo...!
My Airstep Spk footswitch for the Spark claims to be in Jamaica.
We'll see if I ever get it.
Cool Amp!
A guy with a guitar and a microphone.
reminds me of revalver - warm & empty. I still use Guitar Combos. It's the only one that even comes close to proper modeling
Dude, I wanted to hear the gain all the way up on that clone patch!
I love you’re vids, I’m so addicted to them, But I was wondering do AMP’S making the guitar sound different, like any other brands of it like fender or black star?
Absolutely yes.. The guitar body type, the pickups and the amp- have major impact of the guitar's sound
Sounds really great on the video.
Question: on real life sounds as great as in your channel?
Thanks in advance!
Great channel with awesome contents!
Congratulations!
the first video you did on spark amp, you said that the bass was way too loud........have they fixed that?
I hope the update also fixed some of the recording bugs. I bought a Spark earlier this year and still am happy with it as a practice amp but when I use the USB to record on my computer...sound comes out all wonky. Lots of other people have this issue with the Spark as well. I had to go back and use my old Zoom pedal as an interface to record with. Might have bought the Yamaha THR had I known about it. Just a fair warning to anyone that is looking to buy a Spark and record with it via USB.
It also has that pitch warble on its Bluetooth and aux out as well.
Can you do a video on how to update patches?
