Honestly, it would be so fun if Jack did a video like "Reading Books I've Recommended to People," where he reads books that people claim he recommended, but in reality, he hasn't read a single one of them.
I love that Jack started off by saying he'd explain why 'I Wanna Be Like You' is his go-to karaoke song only to never get to that part of the story, because it perfectly demonstrated how the rest of this video was going to go.
I’m sorry but it’s so funny how you go from talking about finding out that you’re tone deaf immediately into “people have been complaining about the sound quality of my videos” 😂😂
4:15 knowing the internet and knowing twitter especially, i decide that people are going to start deliberately doing this with the most outrageous books they can find now lmaoo. you'll open twitter and people will be tagging you in photos of self published shrek erotica thanking you for the rec
Same thought here. I also suppose that's an explanation to begin with: trolling? Or perhaps its a backwards way for people to recommend a book to Jack? People on the internet are weird...
why did I just listen to Jack ranting for 15mins about nothing at all and smile from ear to ear? I swear I can listen to him talk all day. Love your videos
On the note of potential cataracts, I've had problems with my eyes not focusing, turns out it was a mixture of Astigmatism (which was fixable by glasses) and a neck problem due to tension. The constant tension in my neck, which didn't hurt, but created a long list of other, more obscure symptoms, such as mild vertigo, motion sickness and occasional un-focusing of the eyes (and mild trouble swallowing). When I began seeing a physical therapist, the problem with my eyes improved tremendously. I've also found that when my neck-tension starts coming back, the first sign is a build up of "eye floats" (those squiggly lines that swim around the eyes) these will go away once the tension is elevated. Common causes for such tension build up is: Sitting for long periods of time, laying down for long periods of time, poor posture, reading for long periods of time, using a computer for long periods of time, repeated movement (such as driving, vacuuming or knitting), and holding an or both arms in the same position for a long time (such as holding a microphone or a book) Just something to consider, in case it isn't cataracts, and you're still looking for a solution to the problem: the neck is a potential culprit.
another potential culprit it contact lenses - when my eyes are tired (usually from it being early, I've been wearing my contacts too long, been staring at my switch screen or reading too long) my eyes will just slip out of focus behind my contact lenses and i imagine its worse with stronger prescriptions fingers crossed it isnt cataracts!

Just finished this new, original collection of fairy tales, entitled 'Sillies, Fancies, and Trifles' - it was phenomenal and just perfect for the season. You guys will love it, I'm sure. What's everyone else reading, I want some more recommendations to add to the lovely ones here. Keep up the beautiful videos :)
I bought Almond because I was 100% positive you recommended it. Then I found out you never did and hadn’t even read it, but you did eventually and loved it. I was just ahead of my time

I cannot express how happy this purchase from someone on the internet I don't even know makes me. No longer will Jack sound like he's filming in an empty haunted mall!
5 favourite books: 5. Normal People by Sally Rooney 4. The Sorrows of Young Werther by Goethe 3. Change by Edouard Louis 2. The Magic Mountain by Thomas Mann 1. My Struggle by Karl Ove Knausgaard 4 Autobuy Authors: 4. Sally Rooney 3. Thomas Mann 2. Rainer Maria Rilke 1. Karl Ove Knausgaard 3 favourite genres 3. while you were talking about 1984 (including julia) in the video i was rambling to myself about the book (i have a 1984 hyperfixation/special interest, not sure what the correct term would be) and i started full on CRYING over this book because i just would not stfu 😭😭 (and in a VERY good way)
I’m new, and this is so fun!!! I started watching your video because it was late at night and I wanted company. Needless to say you have PROVIDED. Hummm my responses to the book tags. 5 Books I Love: - The Way of Kings (Brandon Sanderson) - The Bands of Mourning (Brandon Sanderson; Book 3 of the Wax and Wayne series) - The Catcher in the Rye (JD Salinger) - Wuthering Heights (Emily Brontë) - I can’t remember the name, but I remember there was this book by Andrew Lane about a young Sherlock Holmes that I loved. 4 Fav Authors: - Brandon Sanderson, obvi - I literally have no other fav author lol. I guess I used to love Christopher Paolini, because of the Eragon books, but I really wasn’t a fan of his other works. - Maybe Robert Jordan (because WoT) - I will probably read anything by Jane Austen, but more because she writes in a genre that I like (spoiler alert oops) than because of her style 3 Genres I Love - Epic fantasy (which you could probably tell) - Georgian/Victorian romance - Oh God, I think I’m gonna have to #cheat and put mystery novels + coming of age stories equal in third place 2 Places I Read from - The couch - My bed 1 Book I Promise to Read Soon - I’ve been getting into non-fiction so I’ll be reading Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert!!!
To actually answer the book tag in the video, here are my lists! I actually stuck to the numbers given because I'm probably not as avid a reader as I'd like to be, hahaha. 5 favourite books,,, honestly idek if I have 5 of them. I like most books I read but none of them are ever really my favourite, y'know? I don't have much of a refined taste as much as I just like reading so that I can get a new perspective on things/to be able to think about things. So emotionally, I don't really get invested in a lot of books I read because I analyse so many of them lmao. In each case, here's a list of books that I remember speaking to me a lot in no particular order: - The Perks of being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky - The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint Exupery - The Guest Cat by Takashi Hiraide - Doppler by Erland Loe - Wee Free Men by Terry Pratchett Now since I'm the type of reader I am, I don't even know if I read enough to pinpoint any authors that are publishing currently or have been publishing rn in general. So this list might be a bit bare, I apologize fkjsjdn. Either way, instant buy authors.... hmmm... I'd say it's these: - Ali Hazelwood (her romance books are just so comforting to read in general) - Youp van 't Hek (if you know you know, his columns are literally everything to me they are so funny) - Anything and I mean anything by Ljubivoje Ršumović; he quite literally made my childhood - Sayaka Murata (her books are always such a delight to read) Okay next question is 3 genres which is gonna be a tough one too, hahaha. I'll just get on with it. - Literary Fiction - Romance but only very specific ones (I am picky) - Mystery would be a third, I guess, since I adore Agatha Christie books Now for places I read most often... hmmm, I'd say I read most at home/in my bedroom, but I also really like reading at my best friend's place together. Or actually, I guess if "next to my friend(s)" could count as a place, then there. I could read anywhere with them. I could read poetry to them, funny quotes so we can laugh together, or just silently enjoy their presence and company in peace. I love reading next to people I care about and having it be an activity!!! Now as for the book I'm gonna read very soon; I have required reading for class unfortunately, so the only book I'll be reading is "De Kozakkentuin" by Jan Brokken for that. I AM looking forward to it though, because I got to choose to read it in each case. But yeah, I really loved the video, thank you for the book tags!!! The microphone is super crisp, albeit a bit inconsistent in regard to differences in how you hold it/speak into it. We didn't hear your feet until the outro though dw lmao. I hope you don't have any serious condition and that you can get adequate treatment for your eyes! All the best!!!
Just to let you know I have read “Elena knows” because of you and Jen Camprell and I loved it! Bought it feom Paris from Shakespare & Company and its even more special for me❤
I would *love* to see a video where you discuss /analyse some of your favourite poems! You'd be great at it! I read Florence Welch's poetry collection, "Useless Magic", because of your videos, and it was my gateway into enjoying poetry a lot more
5. I'll Give You The Sun by Jandy Nelson, Swimming in the Dark by Tomasz Jedrowski, On Earth We're Briefly Gorgeous by Ocean Vuong, In The Dream House by Carmen Maria Machado, and Call Me By Your Name by Andre Aciman 4. My bed/sofa for physical books, the bus for audiobooks 1. The Idiot by Elif Batuman (side note: I loved the chaotic nature of this video - please keep making stuff like this!)
Have you considered narrating audiobooks? Cause as soon as the video started my first thought was ‘YOU HAVE AN AMAZING VOICE, I could listen to you all day’
Literally, if I saw a book was narrated by Jack, even if I had no interest in actually reading it, I would definitely listen to it purely because I feel like him reading it would just make it so much better
I feel like i haven't read enough books yet to find my all time faves, so I'll give you my current faves: Circe by Madeline Miller, The ocean at the end of the lane by Neil Gaiman, and Carry On by Rainbow Rowell is very dear to my heart. You put me on to Claudia Piñeiro’s Elena Knows! I loved it so much I taught it one semester in an English class! (The mic is a little distracting when it’s in the frame but if it makes you happy I’m not going to ruin your joy)

The alternative may be that someone is just saying Jack recommended this to either get you to respond or to get Jack's fans to respond... when thinking about your favourite books, I find it helps to think which books would be worth carrying with you if it was the zombie apocalypse and you had to carry everything you own in a bag with you. The answer is a) kindle, but you need to own all your books in e-format and have one of those windy electricity generators that were a fad once, and b) never the Bible, because either someone will have one if you really need it, or we'll establish a new religion anyways.
My karaoke song of choice: The Middle by Jimmy Eat World 5 favorite books (in no order): 1: Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow by Gabrielle Zevin 2: Circe by Madeline Miller 3: In the Dream House by Carmen Maria Machado 4: You Are Not Dead by Wendy Xu 5: Parable of the Sower by Octavia E Butler 4 autobuy authors: 1: Madeline Miller 2: Ava Reid 3: Vaishnavi Patel 4: Jennifer Saint 3 favorite genres: 1: Literary 2: Fantasy 3: Magical Realism 2 places I read: 1: On the couch 2: In my reading chair (her name is Lola) 1 book I promise to read soon: Stay With Me by Ayọ̀bámi Adébáyọ̀
- 1984 (read it this january LOVED IT ) - Happy hour - Foster - Sweet bean paste - Normal people Honorable mention : Looking for Alaska, 84, Charing cross road
Only commenting this because you asked for feedback on the mic (i swear I'm not trying to backseat produce) but I'd turn the gain down on the mic just a touch, it seems to be peaking a little when you get most excited and that's the best part of your videos! Otherwise loving the upgrade and as someone who lived off of tag videos back in the day I'm so happy you're bringing this kind of video back. Happy reading!
Karaoke song: Love by Keyshia Cole 5 favorite books: - The Book of Form and Emptiness by Ruth Ozeki - The Dutch House by Ann Patchett - A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness - Magyk by Angie Sage - The Phantom Tollbooth by Norton Juster (evidently I am a sucker for books with parent issues) 3 favorite genres: (sorry, breaking the rules) - Literary Fiction - Fantasy - Poetry - Science Nonfiction 2 places I read: - In bed - On the couch 1 book I promise to read soon: Braiding Sweetgrass by Robin Wall Kimmer

Honestly, it would be so fun if Jack did a video like "Reading Books I've Recommended to People," where he reads books that people claim he recommended, but in reality, he hasn't read a single one of them.
Yes! This is hilarious!! He needs to see this.
I was literally JUST about to write this! Such a fun concept!
this is a fantastic idea
Yes!!! Should definitely do this!! 😂
I love that Jack started off by saying he'd explain why 'I Wanna Be Like You' is his go-to karaoke song only to never get to that part of the story, because it perfectly demonstrated how the rest of this video was going to go.
Jack’s trajectory from cataracts to squeaky chair to free feet. Never change.
I’m sorry but it’s so funny how you go from talking about finding out that you’re tone deaf immediately into “people have been complaining about the sound quality of my videos” 😂😂
jack's storytelling in this one is so adhd-core lmao
Trulyy lmaoo
lmao frr
your inner mike’s mic jumped out
PERIODTTTTT I WAS JUST THINKING OF THAT
Not the Michael's Microphone 😭
omg i wasn’t expecting there to be such a crossover audience 🥹 jack in the mic stans rise!
THE CROSSOVER WE NEED
@@melsyoutube hahaha i wouldve never thought their demographics would intersect like this
Okay but you never explained why that jungle book song is your go to karaoke song and now i need to know
4:15 knowing the internet and knowing twitter especially, i decide that people are going to start deliberately doing this with the most outrageous books they can find now lmaoo. you'll open twitter and people will be tagging you in photos of self published shrek erotica thanking you for the rec
Same thought here. I also suppose that's an explanation to begin with: trolling? Or perhaps its a backwards way for people to recommend a book to Jack? People on the internet are weird...
Thanks for the idea
This should definitely be a prompt people go off with
This video is pure comedy, i didn’t expect. The microphone does things to mr Edwards.
why did I just listen to Jack ranting for 15mins about nothing at all and smile from ear to ear? I swear I can listen to him talk all day.
Love your videos
obsessed with the first 4 minutes being about the new microphone 🤩
😂😂

Jack getting cataracts in his 20’s is the most reader thing I’ve heard in a long time
vidéo suggestion: reading books people claim I recommended that I’ve never read !
Then you can see if you would actually recommend the books

I'm also pretty hecking tone deaf. Great with visual arts but holy sheet, God does not give one too many talents.
ur so right about dystopia being one of the best genres
Loving your excitement for your new microphone! Always happy to see more booktag videos ❤️

Jack with this video title deserves a standing ovation 👏🏽

This was fun! I also think my German lit degree is coming through 😂
Would really be interested in seeing a day in the life!!! Including all the different points throughout the day where you read
I would love to see a video on your writing routine and comparing yours to famous writers :)
Our boy forgot claire keegan
while you were talking about 1984 (including julia) in the video i was rambling to myself about the book (i have a 1984 hyperfixation/special interest, not sure what the correct term would be) and i started full on CRYING over this book because i just would not stfu 😭😭 (and in a VERY good way)
I’m new, and this is so fun!!! I started watching your video because it was late at night and I wanted company. Needless to say you have PROVIDED.
Hummm my responses to the book tags.
5 Books I Love:
- The Way of Kings (Brandon Sanderson)
- The Bands of Mourning (Brandon Sanderson; Book 3 of the Wax and Wayne series)
- The Catcher in the Rye (JD Salinger)
- Wuthering Heights (Emily Brontë)
- I can’t remember the name, but I remember there was this book by Andrew Lane about a young Sherlock Holmes that I loved.
4 Fav Authors:
- Brandon Sanderson, obvi
- I literally have no other fav author lol. I guess I used to love Christopher Paolini, because of the Eragon books, but I really wasn’t a fan of his other works.
- Maybe Robert Jordan (because WoT)
- I will probably read anything by Jane Austen, but more because she writes in a genre that I like (spoiler alert oops) than because of her style
3 Genres I Love
- Epic fantasy (which you could probably tell)
- Georgian/Victorian romance
- Oh God, I think I’m gonna have to #cheat and put mystery novels + coming of age stories equal in third place
2 Places I Read from
- The couch
- My bed
1 Book I Promise to Read Soon
- I’ve been getting into non-fiction so I’ll be reading Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert!!!
In each case, here's a list of books that I remember speaking to me a lot in no particular order:
- The Perks of being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky
- The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint Exupery
- The Guest Cat by Takashi Hiraide
- Doppler by Erland Loe
- Wee Free Men by Terry Pratchett
Now since I'm the type of reader I am, I don't even know if I read enough to pinpoint any authors that are publishing currently or have been publishing rn in general. So this list might be a bit bare, I apologize fkjsjdn. Either way, instant buy authors.... hmmm... I'd say it's these:
- Ali Hazelwood (her romance books are just so comforting to read in general)
- Youp van 't Hek (if you know you know, his columns are literally everything to me they are so funny)
- Anything and I mean anything by Ljubivoje Ršumović; he quite literally made my childhood
- Sayaka Murata (her books are always such a delight to read)
Okay next question is 3 genres which is gonna be a tough one too, hahaha. I'll just get on with it.
- Literary Fiction
- Romance but only very specific ones (I am picky)
- Mystery would be a third, I guess, since I adore Agatha Christie books
Now for places I read most often... hmmm, I'd say I read most at home/in my bedroom, but I also really like reading at my best friend's place together.
I read Florence Welch's poetry collection, "Useless Magic", because of your videos, and it was my gateway into enjoying poetry a lot more
How do I double like this? You’re such a character hahaha
Yes to more poetry recommendations!!
5. I'll Give You The Sun by Jandy Nelson, Swimming in the Dark by Tomasz Jedrowski, On Earth We're Briefly Gorgeous by Ocean Vuong, In The Dream House by Carmen Maria Machado, and Call Me By Your Name by Andre Aciman
4. Sally Rooney, Emily Henry, Mona Awad, John Green
3. Contemporary, Romance, Literary (I guess also LGBTQ+ but I don't really see that as a genre)
2. My bed/sofa for physical books, the bus for audiobooks
1. The Idiot by Elif Batuman
(side note: I loved the chaotic nature of this video - please keep making stuff like this!)
I love book tags, thanks❤❤❤❤
I feel like i haven't read enough books yet to find my all time faves, so I'll give you my current faves: Circe by Madeline Miller, The ocean at the end of the lane by Neil Gaiman, and Carry On by Rainbow Rowell is very dear to my heart. I am currently reading Babel and that one feels like an all time fave so far💕 We'll see once i read the ending
You should make a video reading books people have wrongly attributed to you ahahahahah
I can tell with all honesty that I start reading Claire Keegan because of you!! 😊 And I thank you for this 😉👍
The new mic sounds great! Big improvement.
please start the book tag renaissance!! you need to tag other creators at the end though!! that's what makes it a tag!!!!

Jack, you have left me with more questions than answers
I’m very bad at singing and I will never stop 😂 don’t let your singing gatekeeper friends steal your joy 🤭
