Height is obviously an advantage. When you have great heights, you can reach to your highest position faster when you are blocking. For setters, when you are tall, automatically you will have wide set of palms. So, you are able to get a good grasp/grip/hold of the ball to set without having to think about the risk of the ball to get slipped from your hands. And if you are tall, your body will have a long set of arms automatically. It is much easier to dig, set, spike and block the ball with a long pair of arms instead of short one
A IG Also Brazil with legends like Giba and Murilo who were less than 6'4'' ,dominated world volleyball in 2000-2010 time period winning everything under the sun.If height was everything, then much taller Russians, Polish and even Americans would have stopped them.
You do have an advantage for being tall but I am a setter and I am 5’4” and still growing and I have bigger hands than some of the tallest people at my school.
I'm an outer hitter and best defence in my team eventhough I'm only 1,58 m tall... My Coach told me that I am an excellent jumper (eventhough we never practiced any jumping)....
Karch Kiraly, ejemplo de lucha, entrega, perseverancia y grandeza. Sinónimo de liderazgo, grande en la victoria de la vida. Un excepcional director técnico campeón. 😃👍🏻
Intelligence is key too. Never really met a good, college or higher level player that was not an intelligent individual. I have met a lot of dumb football and baseball players, but not really volleyball. They are smarter and better athletes. Not very many over weight guys or girls on the court, and court/team/self awareness is extreme for volleyball. Soccer is up there too.
Lol you can’t say all volleyball players are smarter and better athletes than football or baseball players. There are white people in those sports too --Joe Biden
Not sure how you measure the intelligence of a player. Let me introduce you to Troy Polamalu, Ray Lewis etc., who are successful NFL defensive player because they can read their opponents offense lineup. Tony Romo (ex cowboys QB) was spot on when he predicted correctly many team plays during his tenure as a commentator. Knowing your game and able to read your opponents strategy, predicting their next move can take an athlete one step above everyone irrespective of what sports they play. That's all the smartness they need to excel in their profession.
I used to play volleyball in Middle School, now I do it as a CAS for IB! It's a sport that is tough to be good at at first, but there is so much hype to it :D
Strong legs to jump high, strong arms, and core, anticipating the game and reacting fast and not being necessarily tall... I think kiraly is describing gabi 🤷🏻♀️
Small block? He jumps a lot. By the way, Toniutti plays at the very very top. If he went to some d2 - d1 college volleyball level, he would win everything, and I'm pretty sure that's considered atleast a 'little bit' high
When you start training for volleyball, the first physical change you'll notice is growing leg muscles, from your old jeans becoming tighter. The legs and butts get disproportionally big. You don't notice when you watch the game on TV because the players are so tall.
I really want to be an Olympic volleyball player. I am so passionate about sports in general and absolutely love volleyball. Though I have strong arms I don't have very strong legs. I am about 5''7 - 5''8 and 14 years old. I really hope to pursue this and are there any tips to get stronger legs?
I've played beach volleyball my whole life. I still play in leagues all year round. BUT the top women players nowadays could smoke me like a joint at a Cheech and Chong fest
I'm just wondering why itis necessary for thefemales to wear the equivalent of spanky pants when the menhave to be covered to their knees. If it is to help with freedomof movementor speed, why don't the guys wear speedos?
I played open volleyball back in the 70's and 80's mainly. We wore shorts that were short. Not long things they wear now. They were never tight like the women, but still were pretty short. It allowed you to bend down closer to the floor, at least that's what it felt like to me. But styles change...
if you're referring to beach volleyball, go watch interviews on ACTUAL professional volleyball players like Keri Walsh and the Tokyo gold medalists in women's beach VB. They are allowed to choose what to wear but MOST of them PREFER bikinis.
It's always possible that you will still grow! I was 1,60m when I was 16, now I'm 28 and 1,88m...And if you grow and can already jump, it's gonna be great^^ People who are big from the start often don't focus much on the right jumping-technique, because they don't have to. If you're having fun, keep playing!
Interesting - what he doesn't tell is that if you are any good - you will suffer from all the jumping later in life. Luckily there are surfing and golf to entertain a retired player!
no one on your girls team now , has a vertical jump, ability, precision, and athleticism like Destinee Hooker, no wonder Lang Ping better than you, bronze coach
Kiraly wasn't the tallest, strongest or quickest but he had mental toughness and heart.
"You gatta have strong legs."
*breaks ankles*
I'm fine, this is totally fine.
These videos are so helpfully for amateurs like me. Thank you
I can't believe this video only has 7 comments. This is such a good product!

A IG Digging could be a problem when you are too tall, like over 2m.

A IG being short is also helpful if your libero or ds

That's the 2nd libero of the Dominican Team. Her name is Winnifer Fernandez
Great video excellent description of what makes a volleyball player
Whelp, I have a lot of working out to do. (I'm not strong at all xD) I wanna be on my schools team, so this helped me see what I need to work on.

They forgot one big thing: You need to be tall to play at top level.
that's not true. there were short volleyball olympic players who cared the team on their shoulders
Benjamin Toniutti, check him out.. What a player
which players do you mean?
it's still a problem for france, when he is in the front row because of the small block
Small block? He jumps a lot. By the way, Toniutti plays at the very very top. If he went to some d2 - d1 college volleyball level, he would win everything, and I'm pretty sure that's considered atleast a 'little bit' high

Jess you will have to workout (cardio and weights!!) Eat lots and lots of protein. Running, squats, lunges, weight lifting, etc
Join the track team in your school
try hitting the weight room for gains in legs like that quad/hamstring extensions, leg press, etc.
I’m a 5’11’’ libero 🙃

You know why we guys watch women's volley

I like this
"I would have no description for the perfect volleyball player"...over 6'4" (1.90m) sure helps unless you set or libero lol
Joseph Bell Brazilians legends Giba and Murilo were under 6'4''.
Nah
they were using my oropel Dominicans🇩🇴
Haha... I may be young, but I'm only 156 cm tall and there's no chance for me in volleyball.
you can be a libero or a setter, and practice you jumps
Ariadna Adamo Well, I actually can jump pretty high tbh. Thank you :)
Kageyama Tobio fighting
