She didn't want. They made her become a rapper. They trained her to rap. But she joined the company wanting to sing. She wasn't happy rapping first. But now, she found her color and she's doing what she likes and they're giving her more vocal verses recently.
@@armella.h Even if not her original goal, she is damn good at rapping. Her singing voice is quite good, but it simply isn't as _amazing_ as the other three, and suffers by comparison. If MMM's fourth had been a powerful vocalist like f(x)'s Luna instead of Byulie, there would have been more contention as to who would have ended up as "the rapper" (I'm guessing Hwasa). It took time for RBW to unbend enough to let Byulie sing, but they are there now.

Nice analysis of how they use breathiness. To me it's like they're sending the note into your ear while wrapping you in an enormous hug with their breath. A really good example is the end of Hwasa's solo song Be Calm. A couple things usually get overlooked when we praise their harmonies and individual voices - their arrangements and their versatility in adjusting their vocal technique for each song's style. The way they arrange who sings which lines to weave a tapestry of sound and create a unified song story composed of four unique voices is stunning and I think it gets taken for granted. Their vocal technique choices to express the style and emotions of each song is best understood by someone like yourself but even in their simplest pop songs that supposedly aren't vocal showcases I think anyone who listens closely can appreciate the vocal mastery involved with turning a pop song into a compelling work of art. A really good example of both is their song Paint Me - an extremely simple ballad turned into an art song via vocal gymnastics.
