This 1985 Virgin tour was the Big Bang beginning of her 11 blockbuster concert tours that’d span thru almost 4 decades of her iconic career. She dazzled and sparkled here. She had all the star power: natural beauty, charisma, drive, artistic talent, feminist credo, the dance moves and the fashion style/look that ignited the Madonna Wannabe craze among women. This was the Detroit leg of this tour-and what a homecoming for her before a sold-out audience of adoring fans.
This is the Madonna we all fell in love with. She was such a wonder. We'd never seen anything like her before. Everything she did was magic for such a long time. She had an incredible ride. And she shaped generations and changed the world along the way.
This was the opening number on her first tour, filmed in her hometown of Detroit. It's sometimes hard to tell who's more excited to be there...her or the audience. One amusing story she's told about the Virgin Tour is coming out the first night and inwardly freaking out upon seeing an entire audience filled with girls dressed just like her.
I was ten with this song came out and till this day it’s still my favorite Madonna performance. She was especially happy because she was in her home town. Her whole family was there including her grandmother so I think that’s what makes this performance particularly special. Dress You Up is a timeless song that still plays on the radio. Im getting older but that song will never get old. Love Madonna forever.
Madonna is literally the biggest hit maker of all time. She have so many great songs! You still have many early BOPs to know. Also she does have so many amazing ballads, you still only heard a couple of them but her 1995 Ballads collection sold over 11 million copies during the first 12 months alone and don't even had all her greatest ballads until then letting a few out (this should tell you how great her ballads really are)! Loving your reactions more and more! Thank you!
I was 13 when I saw this video in 1985. I fell in love with her instantly ! This tour captivated boys and girls all over the world. This track is so good and her via vocals and performance are just 10! ❤️it.
ME ENCANTA TU CANAL SALUDOS DESDE LA CIUDAD DE MEXICO SOY FAN DE MADONNA DESDE SUS INICIOS DESDE LOS 80.S TODAS QUERIAMOS SER MADONNAS FUE UNA GRAN MOTIVACION EN MI VIDA Y LO SIGUE SIENDO MADONNA SOLO HAY UNA EN EL MUNDO
Yay you liked it. Glad you did. I used to watch the whole concert every morning before school back in 1987 for nearly a year. And then ciao Italian came out the who’s that girl tour and that had me glued.
I was a mere 16 when she hit big. She was a true trendsetter, fashion icon and pushed the limits to outer space. I haven't seen any female entertainer even come close to her since. Glad I was there to experience it first hand. It was a magical time for music!
I still love this song and especially this performance after all these years. They had to move her to larger venues for The Virgin Tour it was massively successful. The Wannabes were on full display here. Her clothes , her live vocals and amazing dance moves only scratching the surface at this point. Awesome reaction 👏👏 I love that you call out her smile, you can always tell she truly loves performing live.
Yesss, love Dress you up and love your reactions. Gambler is so good too from this tour. 💜 I remember going to this concert and seeing a sea of ‘MadonnaWannabes’ me included 🤩👑
Just to put this into perspective - This was the very first time Madonna ever perform live in a stadium - before that it was always smaller venues and the concert itself started in small theatres but the demand was extraordinary that they moved it to a stadium and she'd never sung in a stadium before and when you watch the full tour you'd think she was a pro that had done this before - NO this was her first time ever - she was like a virgin in that arena literally lol - The Beastie Boys (before they were famous and unknown at the time) opened for Madonna and they weren’t well received by the pro-Madonna crowd. The show was a year before “Licensed to Ill” was released. Rolling Stone, interviewer Austin Scaggs asked Madonna regarding her feelings and emotions during the tour, since it was the first time she was playing in arenas. Madonna replied saying, “That whole tour was crazy, because I went from playing CBGB and the Mudd Club to playing sporting arenas,” she told the magazine. “I played a small theater in Seattle, and the girls had flap skirts on and the tights cut off below their knees and lace gloves and rosaries and bows in their hair and big hoop earrings. I was like, ‘This is insane!’ After Seattle, all of the shows were moved to arenas.”
*lemme correct ya... this was **_not_** a stadium tour. it **_was_** a smaller arena/venue tour. she didnt tour stadiums until 87 with Whos That Girl. I tape-recorded this song on November 5, 1985 - the next day I turned 21. Time flies ... But to know and to buy the 12" mix I had to wait till the wall came down - and this "Dress You Up" 12" was the first I ever bought :-) And I NEVER get tired of listening to it!!! But Luke, the studio versions are a bit different ;-)
@@rebelheart3840 The Golden Girls was a comedy series which started in 1985, and in one of their very first episodes (in 1985) they came back from a Madonna concert! If you watch the link above - it's the very first few seconds!

Hey Luke. Yeah this amazing woman is one of a kind. You should seriously give some early Madonna songs a listen if you liked this so much. A lot of great unforgettable songs from her debut 1983 self titled album will hypnotize you. Burning Up, Borderline and especially the fantastic timeless dance floor seduction of Physical Attraction will knock you sideways. J
I was obsessed with Madonna growing up. I was14 when this song came out. I remember these videos like it was yesterday! I want to also add that I’m now I’m 53 years old and I have a 14-year-old daughter and when I look at her eye and vision with my life was like when I was 14 it was obviously very different!
This song and video performance is in my top 10 favorites of all time, dress you up was her last hit of the virgin era, after that start a new Madonna with her true blue album and new look, new actitud
Madonna landed herself ont he list of "the filthy fifteen" with this one. I believe she and Cindy Lauper was the only two women. The list is the reason we today have Parental advisory labeling on records. to this day it remans one of my all time favorites of hers.
That video is iconic, she was great and such a breath of fresh air, a force of nature and really cute too! She almost had a Stevie Nicks voice then, lost it along the way. Thank you for another great video reaction🌷🌷🌷🌷

I just finished watching your reviews of Lo Que Siento La Mujer and Beautiful Stranger....and decided I needed MORE. Of course I saw this review months ago with everyone else, but 2 things sure to put me in a great mood are Madonna and HBK 💪 and I'm riding the good vibes ♥️
You should check out the live version of “Dress You Up” from her “Rebel Heart” Tour in 2015! She gives the song a Latin twist and it’s one of my favorite live performances of hers ever!
Surprisingly, “Dress you up” did not make it on the “immaculate collection” (her 1990 greatest hits album). Strong live vocals by Madonna here. I prefer this version to the album version because it has a fuller sound overall.
Luke could you do “holiday truth or dare” it’s Madonna at her height also on that tour she did the best version of like a prayer I’d love to see a reaction as she really gives it her all and it was recorded on movie film so looks stunning
This concert was like a year after Madonna's most scandalous performance to date...the 1984's MTV VMA awards when she came out of that wedding cake in a wedding dress then proceeded to roll around and grind on the stage singing "Like A Virgin". She said her shoe came off, so she thought 'I'll roll around on the floor like this is planned and get it"...one camera caught a shot of her dress up and panties...she was told immed. after her career was ruined, however, Madonna set the bar for such a scandalous performance, and was a household name the next day.
Hi there . I follow u on Instagram. I also enjoy your M journey reactions. If I may, I would like to suggest the album version of Paradise not for me ( the album version) it’s from her 2000 Music album. Thanks
