Hi Katie,
Thanks for your comment, yes I do seem to have been a bit generous with the paint! It is a bit addictive using thick paint though!
Will
Yes, I paint the entire stalk with cadmium yellow light straight from the tube and then add further layers of paint on top using a mixture between cadmium yellow light and green gold, I finally use phthalo blue (red shade) with the cadmium yellow light to add a really vivid green.
You are so exacting. Along with your creativity and aesthetics make you a fabulous artist and terrific teacher. Thank you for your devotion to teaching us.
Hey deltambda,
I start with the dark tones, if you watch Part 1 , you'll see how how I start with the Burnt umber and build up the painting from there,
Cheers,
Will

Hi Am Mr will am in the paint of the cherry the stem is that cad yellow out of the tub?
all four parts are very helpful, thank you.
Am I the only one who loves the background music? ;o
Wow it looks so realistic. Would you recommend doing this on a normal paper? What have you painted it on?
I've painted on a canvas, paper can curl up if you apply too much water to the surface
I am so glad I stumbled across your page! You are the perfect teacher.~
+ichik333 Thanks very much, so pleased you enjoyed it.
Cheers,
Will
thank you ........so good. I will try but am always scared to change colours and spoil it.
mine came out pretty nice in it's own way... loved it...thanks for sharing !
Beautiful, I'm going to get myself some different reds and try the cherry and then maybe a deep red delicious apple, and from there, who knows?
I was surprised that Will wasn't using his stay-wet palette in this series. It makes acrylic paint last much longer so nothing is wasted.
Autumn leaves nice musical selection this looks amazing i'm gonna be working forever now trying to up my game
Could this be done by an absolute begginer to drawing and painting I want to try
For sures

Loved the video!
Wow! I am truly late to the party here! Wanted to just drop a note and tell you just how much I really loved this tutorial! I learned A LOT! I am already a proficient artist but never had I dipped into acrylics--I hated my oils class in college and never went back (I have a BFA in Scientific Illustration). But I am just in love with acrylics now and I had to thank you! You are not only a gifted artist, but a fabulous instructor!! I WILL be purchasing further courses once I finish all the free ones. :)
I'm so glad Dottie, glad you enjoyed the lesson.
Very insightfull (after all the years still)!

Will, Are you working wet on wet or are you letting the paint dry between the different videos? I ask because my paint is drying really quickly and become hard to work with (blend)... Thanks for the awesome instruction by the way, cheers!
+Blake Ingram Hi Blake, when I'm blending the colours together I'm working wet into wet, for glazing thin colours on top I work wet over dry.
Cheers,
Will
Gorgeous work! and the videos are so delicious to watch 😊
Thanks from Brazil
Thanks so much Vanelao, glad you enjoyed it.

I have enjoyed watching you paint this cherry - last year I did a series of red peppers and used a purple and a Prussian blue to darken my cool red - I used cad. yellows & oranges like you to lighten - I really like the way the umber worked - thank you!

Hello Will, I have a question for you, I did this painting on special acrylic paper and used some medium with paint, although I am wondering if I still have to put a layer of varnish on top or that is only for canvases?
Hi MitchMeg, yes, you can apply a varnish layer if you'd like, you just have to be careful due to the moisture content of the varnish going into the paper and causing buckling. It changes depending on the thickness of the paper, I'd be tempted to use a polymer varnish rather than an MSA varnish. To be 100% sure, try a test piece onto the paper to see if there are any adverse effects to the surface before committing to your finished painting.
Cheers,
Will

I am having difficulty applying a layer of yellow paint on the stem. The paint is too thick or too watery. The brand I am using for yellow is Liquitex. For the green gold, I am using Dick Blick, but the consistency for the green gold is thick and "clumpy."
