I think Jenna grew up with her audience. When I was 12 and 13 I loved he loud rambunctious obscenities but not I'm in my 20s and relaxing dog content and plant tours is exactly my speed. It feels like I got to grow up with my cool internet big sister.

I just realized that I pretty much grew up with Jenna. The time that she made those slightly offensive and ridiculous videos was what I liked at the time, so I basically watched her videos all the time. Eventually I grew out of the "offensive is funny" phase and stopped watching her for a while. After a bit I decided to check her out again. Her demeanor completely changed and her humor went to just lighthearted fun, which for a kid that just started to get hit hard by depression, that was what I really needed. Jenna helped me through a lot of shit.

She even admits here that she has made mistakes, 4 years ago. Jenna has constantly acknowledged her past and been dedicated to growing and constantly appreciative. Its so unfair how recent events have failed to acknowledge this. People don't listen anymore, they just cancel.
no one cancelled her. she made the choice to hold herself accountable and she also made the choice to step away. putting it on other people is taking away from her message of holding herself to a higher standard and wanting to be a person worth admiring. i love her and hope she comes back but i respect her choice to step away and so should her fans, rather than blaming other people
@JunViper06 It's simply cyber-bullying. Many twitter users just have nothing better going on, so they resort to creating drama. Anybody giving these toxic man/woman/whatever-children any credit needs to re-prioritize... maybe find a healthy source of entertainment.
brennadoodle she did have some ppl ask her to address things like twitter and stuff but besides that, it was her decision to step away from RUclips, hopefully only for a bit, and privated her old videos. I think that’s pretty admirable and it really shows maturity and reflection. I hope she comes back :((
@@carlafuqua1685 I don't think people were actively trying to bully her but I do think people have gotten so sensitive these days that even things from someone's past is deemed offensive. It's not really a fault of anyone. Like Jenna, times have changed. We no longer live in a world where white people can dress up like Nicki Minaj and make a joke at her expense without causing some sort of upheaval.
@@rentalksmedia I, like many of Jenna's fans, have been watching her old videos, and I happened to come across your comment, and I'm really glad that I did. It's nice to see others recognize Jenna for the choice that she made to hold herself to a higher standard than most people innately require of themselves. Other than Jenna, there are only a few other entertainment-based RUclips channel that I regularly watch; mostly, it's a split of charitable and educational content w/ the occasional product review thrown in. The reason for this is not that there isn't entertaining content on RUclips, it's that so much of it is created by people who I wouldn't want to contribute to in a monetary fashion. I find so many influencers simply repulsive, b/c their behavior is awful, and they treat others the exact way that no one deserves to be treated.
And, this is the exact reason why I admire Jenna so much. She's an actual, well-rounded human being. Like everyone, she makes mistakes or does things that she later looks back on as being wrong, but the difference in her personality is that she'll be the first to admit this, and she'll administer an actual apology. She doesn't need to wait to be called out or punished. She knows what's right and what isn't, and she holds herself accountable, and I find this to be a commendable quality, which is something that I'm happy to stand in support of.
I'm really pleased that you see this, as well. I hope Jenna finds comfort in the fact that her actions have not gone unnoticed by those who really understand what they're seeing. She definitely deserves her own peace of mind, and if that means not being a part of the public eye, then so be it. She has a right to do what she chooses w/ her life, the same as anyone else. Whatever she decides to do, I trust that she'll remain the same decent human being that she's always progressed toward. Certainly, the world can always use more human decency.

I ended up here because my 15 year old sent me a link to I Suck At Pranks 2 because he thought it was funny, we were watching it and we were laughing "I wonder if she knows that this isn't really a prank, but it's kind of sweet"..... "oh, okay, the bug was a nasty prank though... ewww...". Anyway... that led to me clicking around and watching a few of your videos and eventually this one. We do grow up. I look up back at some of the things I sad and did when I was 17, 22, 25, etc and I'm very "cringey" as you would say.
I'm 41 now and a very very different person. We change. Yes, I'm still silly and I still do crazy things sometimes, but you grow up and you make your way in the world the very best that you can. Reading some of the comments here has been interesting "yeah, but we liked the old Jenna's rudeness better". Interesting.... it does make me wonder how old those folks are. I, for one, love a good rant now and then.... but there's a time and a place. I think back then RUclips was mainly a bunch of people putting rants out there, it's why I didn't come to RUclips much, it was a "small doses" type of thing.
Keep creating, and living your life. You can't please all of the people all of the time, so you may as well live to please yourself. If people want to come along for the ride even better... I DO love that you left the old videos up - even the ones that make you want to crawl under a rock.... it shows the growth of your channel, but also you as a person.

I think she grew up along with her audience. When I was a little kid I liked her sense of humour. It made me feel cool and older than I was. After a while I grew out of that and Jenna did too. As she matured so did I and I think that's really cool.
There was honestly a point where I stopped watching her altogether because her humor just didn't appeal to me anymore and this is coming from someone who started watching her from "How to trick people into thinking you're good looking." It just seemed like the same thing over and over and nothing really different. There were too many rants and too many "what a boys/girls/person's__means" "what boys/girls/people do in the__" etc..UNTIL she started being "selfish" by making videos that SHE actually wanted to do and had fun while doing and looking goofy without giving a fuck. You can see how much happier she is now and how much she actually enjoys doing all of this now. I'm so proud of her!!
I used to only watch her trendy videos, out of curiosity, but didn't really enjoy her (I found her obnoxious), until recently re-discovering her, and seeing how secure in herself she's become. Now, she goes without makeup, is a lot goofier, laughs a lot more. I just really like who she is now.

This video is one of the reasons why I didn’t think something like what happened today would happen. Jenna is one of the most caring, considerate people out there. I really respect her for taking a break and holding herself accountable but damn I wish it could have been different

This was such an awesome video 4 years ago to see from watching Jenna from the beginning to seeing her see she wanted to grow as a person and move forward, and to now...it’s just unfortunate that anyone wanted to try and make her feel as though she is doing anything wrong by growing and learning.
And as a younger person watching her content when I was 11-12-13, it was cool to see someone grow and change and learn and I love getting to see her be the kind of person I hope to be half of one day.
I'm really worried that it's not a break. It's been so long now...
KT yeah, it might take a long time for her to come back, if ever. But i’ve come to terms with it now; she needed to move on and that’s ok for her. And as much as it hurts to not have my favorite videos to revisit as i did almost every day, it was the best she could do now in order to not spread anything she didn’t want to. Editing the videos weren’t an option and nor was putting a warning sign before each of them, so the decision really makes sense for now. And if she ever decides to come back, we’ll all be waiting for her, arms open

I don't know why Jenna seems so sad. It pains me to hear her and see her like that. I think she thinks all of her old videos were just stupid and full of mistakes and shes way too hard on herself for that. No one is going to produce PERFECT videos. Theres always someone out there that's going to hit the thumbs down or say they hated what you did. Pleasing everyone is out of the question. But pleasing yourself, that is what this is all about. It's a growing process. I love Jenna's old videos just as much as the new ones she puts out. This video really changed the way I see youtubers. I realize it's not all easy. There are challenges. But I do believe that Jenna has always been a great person no matter what she titled her videos as, what words she said, what actions she did etc. I just really wish she could see that. I hope she sees the good things about herself and her videos. I hope she keeps her spark alive and makes videos that make HER happy. Jenna, you keep doing you. If you want to rant, then rant. If you want to do a challenge, do a challenge. Don't hold back. Life is too short to be embarrassed about past times. Live today with no regrets. You're not just a face through a computer screen. You made my laugh all through high school with your old vids, I've been watching you for like 4 years. I still remember seeing "how to avoid talking to people you don't want to talk to" for the first time and absolutely cracking up. I paid absolutely no attention to the lighting, or editing in any of your old stuff. I understand how it would bug you from an editors point of view and it being yourself, butit made no difference to me ☺️
The How Girls/Guys videos are still 100% my favourite videos you've ever done and I will always go back to watch them and show people. I know those older videos were really cringy for you to watch, but I want you to know that the way you were back then was the role model that I needed. I started watching your videos way younger than I probably should have when I was 13 (lol). I was weird and awkward, and I didn’t really have any friends, so I was shy. Watching you changed me. I saw someone who was awkwardly creative like me, and who didn’t know how to say the right things except, unlike me, you were confident. I somehow always knew you were a genuinely kind person no matter how many f bombs you could shove into a 2-minute video. I’m 19 now, and you’re still my role model. I am still awkward and weird, but I have embraced it. I love who I am, and that all stems from the values that I got from your videos. I’m so glad that you are mature and happier now, but I want you to remember that fans like me have never expected to watch a perfect person. I could never be the person I am now if you were.

The Jenna I watched wasn't some polished unattainable celebrity, but a person without a facade who showed that it's okay to be awkward. Seeing her gave me hope that I didn't have to sacrifice my personality for success. Something sorely needed in today's society.

I was 15 in 2010, so I was the perfect demographic for og Jenna, but I really respect how much the channel has grown since then. There were a lot of youtubers I dropped a long time ago because I grew out of their sense of humor and they never changed, but this channel has evolved so amazingly, and for anyone complaining about it, the old videos are still their for you to laugh at. But I really appreciate the recent distaste for "offensive=funny" on the internet, and I really appreciate how the channel moved on from that.

I don't like this :( those videos... No one cared about them being uploaded wrong or on a cruddy camera. It was the content and the realness of them that we loved. They made you the youtube star that you are today you should be proud of them. We love you for what you did then and what you do now and yes we all grew up with you. There should be so shame in what youve done because all of that got you to this point. I remember loving that you didnt have crazy production and all the extra stuff it was just you being real. I don't know if you'll ever see this comment, Jenna, but just in case you do, I've gotta add in my two cents. I totally understand looking back on your past self and being really embarrassed. I may not have millions of people as an audience, but my Timehop makes me cringe on a daily basis, and I can't look at my Facebook albums titled things like "x 8th Grade x :)" without wanting to punch myself in the face; but it's a pretty normal thing to do, and it's a good thing, really-that just means that you've grown as a person and are able to see that change. I'm now 19 and a sophomore in college, but I remember watching your older videos back in early middle school, and I can honestly say that they (and you) brightened up my life significantly. I didn't have very many actual friends in middle school, and until early high school, I was extremely self-conscious of being entirely myself. I had a hard time sticking to what I believed and being who I was because it was (and still is) so much easier just to try to blend in with everyone else. But you and your videos made me laugh uncontrollably even after I had the worst day, and they reminded me that it's okay to be weird and embrace my quirks. Partially due to you, I'm so much more confident and comfortable with who I am, and I've found friends that accept me for that. You had an influence on me while I was growing up, and even though you find your old videos embarrassing, I think it's pretty cool that you were able to reach so many people with your videos (because I know I'm not the only one whose days or lives you made better). And it's been really great watching you grow up, too. There was one point in time where I stopped watching your videos for a while because there was so much excess swearing that I just didn't really care to listen to at the time (I was a very sheltered little 12-year-old, granted, but I've never been big on excessive cussing). I never unsubscribed, but I didn't watch very often. But soon enough, I ended up back on your channel, and I started noticing that the yelling and swearing was becoming less frequent, and some more meaningful content was being posted more. I still find the older videos with swearing and rants and drunkenness pretty funny, and the girls vs. guys series will always crack me up; but it's super great to see how you went from loud, sometimes-obnoxious, sometimes borderline-offensive videos to ones like this where you're so much more open and genuine. I love that even though you've grown up so much, you've kept your personality and sense of humor-you've figured out when the rants and swearing are and are not appropriate and funny and have adjusted accordingly. This got significantly longer than I originally planned, so I'll just wrap it up by saying thank you for helping shape who I am as a person, and thank you for letting me and so many others grow up and change with you. You're incredible.

Watching this video after Jennas most recent just really nails in how truly different she is from when she made her content 10 years ago. Jenna and the whole world are different now, she realizes that things that were funny back then (what girls and guys do, etc) isn’t today. Jenna has grown up so much. Honestly, I don't wanna lose my "spunk" when I get older. I wanna remain fun and youthful. There's a reason why people like Jenna's old videos. She kept it real and spoke her mind; it was refreshing. I don't wanna live in fear of offending others. Nothing, in my opinion, kills a personality faster than being overly PC.
It's great that we grow wiser and more mature with each passing year. In a lot of ways, that helps us. But I don't wanna lose what makes me, me. And I don't want the real me to become a stick in the mud.
I used to feel like that when I was younger too but as I got older I realized that I will always be me and I will never change into someone I don't want to be. I think as you get older, you just kind of realize what's important in life. I used to worry about a lot of small things (you've probably heard people say "when you're young everything seems like a huge deal"- statement is true) and would get angry over the little things but as you get older you see things in a bigger picture and you don't get angry/upset over the small things.
Don't worry about losing who you are- you will always be you but who you are will change with time and you will be ok with it as you grow up because you are the one who is changing yourself. I wouldn't call Jenna a stick in the mud either- she still enjoys herself. It's not like as you grow up you worry more about offending others, it's more that you worry about hurting others. If I can avoid offending someone, I will- it's just not worth it to me to make it a rude comment if it will offend someone.
Sadly, that happens to a lot of women when they have kids. Their life is all about their children and "being a mom" that they lose sight of themselves as individuals. That's one of the reasons why I hope Jenna doesn't have kids for awhile because it will definitely change her and what her video content would be. I love watching her dog vids but I definitely don't want to see kid videos. I come here to escape from being an adult.., :D

It’s so bittersweet watching this now a couple of years since she left RUclips. So many of us grew up with you Jenna.
