On a lighter note, there now is timone land solutions, looks like this time around South Africa is no where to be seen. Had they've been there, there may probably be a "Pumba" company to add to the mix. Giving us Lion King's "timone & pumba", yayy!

The CV90 might, and I vaguely remeber that there were talk of an amphibious option, but I don't know how good that would be. What the CV90 has, is the best soft-ground traction and manouverability of anything on the market today. wet, sandy, boggy ground that stops its competitors is a meere breeze for it. Sadly the manouverability and speed comes at a cost, it is a bit thinly armored, compared even with its competitors, it is only an APC not an MBT so if the enemy has modern weapons, then you must throw them in sufficient numbers at the enemy so you can soak up the inevitable losses. Against terrorists and insurgents or on a UN mission, such losses would be minimal and the armor sufficient, just look at the older versions rap sheet in Afganistan.

yes and no. it really doesent matter too much what APC you choose, as a modern D-day event, or opposed landing would not hinge on which apc you choose. cv90 would probably be the best, but the puma and other new generation IFVs would work. what's important is air support and a lot of smoke. the IFV is really only there to push far enough in to let the infantry get a hold. the only factor in what IFV to pick is that thermal optics are pretty much mandatory.

ARTEC is trying really hard to sell the Boxer here. They should to it like PSM with the Puma in the czech republic, less advertising and let the performace speak for itself.
However i think advertising is the only thing that works with the british MoD lol.

No, i think no decision about the MIFV has been made yet.

Artec wants the Army and Gov to know its committed and ready for an order.
The British Army knows this is their last chance to get an 8x8 and want it as fast as possible. By buying Boxer without competition they can avoid tons of red-tape, the time consuming risk assessment and testing that they demanded was all ready done by the time they left Artec.

They have a completely wrong approach imho. The Boxer is a excellent multipurpose-platform, perhaps with the highest modularity of any AFV. If a new version is adopted, there don't have to be any changes made to the hull, just the new modules comes on. The results are extremely low cost and high part interchangeability (since the drive modules are totally identical) thus better logistics. Now, with the british MoD wanting the ASCOD 2 (one version is the AJAX) as a multipurpose base, they kinda have a misssed oppportunity here. The ASCOD 2 is still a unmodular designed AFV that requires major changes for any version that is adopted.
They should use the Boxer as a multipurpose base rather than the ASCOD 2, and the ASCOD 2 only as a MIFV. Using the Boxer only as a MIFV instead of in a wide range of version is a huge waste of potential. Look at the germans or dutch, they do it right (Boxers are only 2nd line support vehicles, their IFVs are tracked and more heavily protected). The british do it the wrong way around imo.
